Developments in selection and emergence of new varieties and hybrids of oilseeds, which have a better ratio of the fatty acid composition of the oil, make is possible to promote such types of crops as camelina, colza, rapeseed and others. The paper presents an analysis of the quality of new and promising varieties and hybrids of oilseeds, which, according to their morphological and biological characteristics, are successfully cultivated in conditions of the Non-Chernozem Zone of Russia. It is confirmed that oil quality is due to genetic characteristics of the variety and hybrid. The quality of seeds of spring rapeseed Ratnik, Cyclus KL, Curry KL, Salsa KL, Cultus KL, Ozorno, Cebra and other studied varieties and hybrids of the 00 type are close to olive oil in their fatty acid composition and are not inferior to the quality of sunflower oil. There is a high content of important C18:1 oleic acid in oil of rapeseed (59-65 %), and a low content of the total of C16:0 palmitic + C18:0 stearic (5.5-6.0 %). The data on the high quality of camelina oil are presented, which allows the use of varieties Yubilyar and Veles for production of vegetable oil with a high content of unsaturated acids for food purposes. The work discusses the current restrictive norms for the supply of oilseeds and determining the standard weight for oil refining enterprises.

Salinity stress is a limiting factor for the growth and yield quality of rapeseed. The potentiality of melatonin (MT; 0, 25, 50, and 100 µM) application as a seed priming agent in mediating K+/Na+ homeostasis and preventing the salinity stress mediated oxidative damage and photosynthetic inhibition was studied in two rapeseed cultivars. We found that 50 µM MT treatment imparted a very prominent impact on growth, metabolism of antioxidants, photosynthesis, osmolytes, secondary metabolites, yield, and fatty acids composition. Days required for appearance of first flower and 50% flowering were decreased by MT application. Exogenous MT treatment effectively decreased the oxidative damage by significantly declining the generation of superoxide and hydrogen peroxide under saline and non-saline conditions, as reflected in lowered lipid peroxidation, heightened membrane stability, and up-regulation of antioxidant enzymes (catalase, superoxide dismutase, and ascorbate peroxidase). Furthermore, MT application enhanced the chlorophyll content, photosynthetic rate, relative water content, K+/Na+ homeostasis, soluble sugars, and proline content. Moreover, MT application obviously improved the oil quality of rapeseed cultivars by reducing glucosinolates, saturated fatty acids (palmitic and arachidic acids), and enhancing unsaturated fatty acids (linolenic and oleic acids except erucic acid were reduced). Yield related-traits such as silique traits, seed yield per plant, 1000 seeds weight, seed oil content, and yield biomass traits were enhanced by MT application. The anatomical analysis of leaf and stem showed that stomatal and xylem vessels traits are associated with sodium chloride tolerance, yield, and seed fatty acid composition. These results suggest the supportive role of MT on the quality and quantity of rapeseed oil yield.

This paper aims to determine the content of bioactive substances of lipid fractions extracted from Bertholletia excelsa, Lecythis pisonis and Dipteryx lacunifera, in by the interest of better identifying the quality of these raw materials. Proximate composition of nuts was determined by official methods and total carbohydrate was calculated by difference. The oils were extracted from the nuts by cold pressing and analyzed for fatty acid composition, tocopherols, phytosterols and total carotenoids and phenolics compounds. The fatty acid composition of oil extracted from L. pisonis was more unsaturated compared with others oils. L. pisonis oil showed to be richer in total tocopherol and γ-tocopherol, moreover showed considerable total phytosterol and carotenoid amounts, thus representing an important source of vitamins A and E. The oils showed significant content of phenolic compounds, with the exception of the oil extracted from D. lacunifera. The study revealed that the oils from Brazilian nuts contain bioactive compounds in relevant quantities, L. pisonis oil standing out. This fact favors their use for food and, as raw material in chemical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, adding value to products derived from these oils, increasing the viable sources of raw materials.

This article highlights the importance of low-investigated and insufficiently widespread oilseed crop of false flax, which can become an alternative to sunflower and other oilseeds. The false flax is unpretentious to growing conditions, it responds well to the optimization of nutrition, italso significantly increases the yield of seeds. Researches were carried out during 2014-2016 on southern Chernozem in the Educational-scientific-practical center of Mykolaiv National Agrarian University with the crop of false flax (variety Stepovyi 1). The optimization of plant nutritionwas investigated by using modern growth-regulating drugs on the background of N15P15K15, that is, on the principles of resource conservation. The influence of nutrition on the main indicators of seed quality was determined.It was determined that depending on thenutrition background not only the level of yield changed but also the quality of seeds. Thus, the protein content considerably increased as well as the conditional harvest per unit of area; the fat content, on the contrary, reducedwith improved nutrition, but in the fatty-acid composition of the oilthe content of the most valuable linoleic acid increased without increasing the amount of erucic acid. According to the research the introduction of false flax crop into production can partially replace the area under the sunflower since it is not inferior to thesunflower on the main criteria of the oil quality as well as on the indicators of its economic efficiency. Studies of quality and safety of organic flour and oils for the development of cookies are considered. The objects of the study are samples of organic spelt, corn and coconut flour; and samples of organic oils (camelina and hemp). The purpose of the study is to substantiate the feasibility of using organic raw materials for the development of new cookie recipes. To determine the quality and safety of organic flour, the nutritional value, physicochemical parameters and safety indicators (content of salts of heavy metals) have been analyzed. To determine the quality of organic oils, the fatty acid composition has been analyzed. Standard methods have been used for the study. The moisture content of the flour has been determined by the drying method. Ash content – by the method of organic matter charring. Atomic absorption and flameless atomic absorption methods have been used to determine the safety indicators of the flour. The fatty acid composition of oils has been determined by gas chromatography. It has been proved, that organic raw materials meet the safety requirements of the Regulation of maximum levels of certain contaminants in food, approved by the Order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine № 368 of 13.05.2013 and can be used as a promising enrichment for the nutritional value of cookies

Acid oils (AO) and fatty acid distillates (FAD) are oil refining by-products rich in free fatty acids. The objective of this study is their characterization and the identification of their sources of variability so that they can be standardized to improve their use as feed ingredients. Samples (n=92) were collected from the Spanish market and the MIU value (sum of moisture, insoluble impurities, and unsaponifiable matter), lipid classes, fatty acid composition, and tocol content were analyzed. Their composition was highly variable even between batches from the same producer. As FAD originated from a distillation step, they showed higher free fatty acid amounts (82.5 vs 57.0 g/100 g, median values), whereas AO maintained higher proportions of moisture, polymers, tri-, di-, and monoacylglycerols. Overall, the MIU value was higher in AO (2.60–18.50 g/100 g in AO vs 0.63-10.44 g/100 g in FAD), with most of the contents of insoluble impurities being higher than those in the guidelines. Tocol and fatty acid composition were influenced by the crude oil’s botanical origin. The calculated dietary energy values were, in general, higher for AO and decreased when a MIU correction factor was applied. The analytical control and standardization of these by-products is of the outmost importance to revalorize them as feed ingredients.

The article presents the results of research on the development of the technology of biscuits using non-traditional plant raw materials. In the course of the work, the replacement of a part of the premium wheat flour in the dairy crust recipe with a mixture of rice (17%) and sesame (11%) and the replacement of butter with camelina butter in an amount of 5% by weight of the product was justified. It was found that the introduction of functional raw materials gives the products a moderately sweet milk taste with a pleasant nutty aftertaste and orange color. The resulting products are characterized by a balanced fatty acid composition of ω-3 and ω-6, enriched with minerals and vitamins. Calculation of the nutritional value showed that the consumption of 100 g of the developed biscuits covers the daily need of an adult for polyunsaturated fatty acids of the ω-3 and ω-6 families by 37–75% and 19,4–31,5, respectively. The protein content rises by 1,5 times, and the carbohydrate content decreases by 1,16 times. At the same time, the degree of satisfaction of the daily requirement for potassium increases – by 2,3%, in calcium – by 7–7,5%, in phosphorus – by 12,6%, in magnesium – by 16,3%, in iron – by 7,3–13,3%. The degree of satisfaction of the daily requirement for vitamins B1 also increases – by 19,7–20,9%, B2 – by 2,2–2,3%, PP – by 8,1–9,3%, E – by 1,6–1,7% compared to the control sample of dairy cakes. The developed products can be recommended for preventive nutrition, people adhering to a healthy lifestyle, as well as school-age children, pregnant and lactating women who have a deficiency of ω-3 and ω-6 fatty acids in the diet

Abstract Introduction. With due consideration of the properties of fatty acids, as well as their importance for normal life activity and human development, research into the fatty acid composition of poorly studied plants and the search for new domestic plant sources of polyunsaturated fatty acids is a mainstream trend in modern pharmacy. Aim. Aim of research – determination of fatty acid qualitative composition and content in threshed grass, stalks, roots and seeds of Night-scented stock ‘Queen of Night’ and ‘Evening Scent’ cultivars as grown in Ukraine. Methods. Gas chromatography. Results. Both cultivars of Night-scented stock taken for analysis had similar fatty acid composition – 5 saturated, 5 (4 for seeds) monounsaturated and 2 polyunsaturated fatty acids, Quantitatively, in all tested parts of the herb polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acid dominated, making in total 88.92% and 88.62% in the seeds of Queen of Night and Evening Scent cultivars, respectively, and averaging 65% in other parts of the tested cultivars. Linolenic and linoleic acids prevailed among the polyunsaturated fatty acids, whereas oleic acid prevailed among the monounsaturated. Conclusion. Night-scented stock can be utilized as a source of polyunsaturated fatty acids for the development of drugs and for standardization of tested raw materials.
