This work is devoted to the use of load-bearing elements made of translucent materials. To confirm the relevance of the study, regulatory materials and similar practices of using various materials as vertical and horizontal bearing elements were studied. Experimental experience was conducted to identify high indicators of the required characteristics of elements, which are considered as independent supporting structures. The object of the research is modern translucent materials. These materials have proven themselves as walling and auxiliary elements, their use as a supporting structure is not so important. However, in the course of the study it was revealed that translucent materials can be used as bearing elements without loss of strength and stability of the structure, which allows to visually facilitate the architectural appearance of the building. The subject of research is the influence of translucent supporting structures on the architectural shaping and the formation of the urban environment, by means of using the most visually lightweight structures. As a result of the study, it was concluded that it is possible and attractive to use translucent structures as load-bearing elements; however, there are drawbacks in a number of technological limitations, which directly affects the advantage of choosing not to benefit from translucent materials.

The article presents the results of investigations of the strength of the supporting structure of the bodyopen-top wagon at shunting impacts taking into account the different speeds. Research literature on thesafety of wagon fleet during the manoeuvres showed that the speed of collision of the wagons in operationexceed the standard. This causes increased force loading bearing structures gondola body and damagingthem. Almost half of all injuries in new wagons occurs when the dissolution from the hills. The greatestpercentage of damages falls on the supporting structures of wagon bodies. With the aim of ensuring the strength of bodies of wagons during shunting impacts to meet theincreasing speeds of the improved load-bearing structures, by putting on the most loaded areas of the framereinforcing plates. The thickness of the lining is selected proceeding from the condition of ensuring thestrength. Calculation of the strength of the body of a wagon carried out using the finite element method. The results of the calculation of the strength of the body of the wagon with respect to the proposedactivities, allowed us to conclude about the feasibility of the technical solutions. In addition, proposedmeasures for improvement of the supporting structure body of a open-top wagon allow you to maintain thetechnical condition at the existing repair facilities.

Periodontal diseases result in the inflammation of the supporting structures of the teeth, thereby leading to attachment loss and bone loss. One of the main etiological factors responsible for this condition is the presence of subgingival biofilms, comprising microorganisms, namely bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Candida species is one of the fungi reported to be found in periodontal disease which is suggestive of the presence of an association between these variables. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the association of Candida species with periodontal disease and determine the prevalence of these species in the patients affected with this disease. The articles related to the subject of interest were searched in several databases, including the PubMed, Web of Science, Google Scholar Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Scopus. The search process was accomplished using three keywords, namely ‘‘Candida species’’, ‘‘Chronic periodontitis’’, and ‘‘Gingivitis’’. All the identified studies were comprehensively evaluated for the association of Candida species with periodontal disease. This systematic review included 23 articles, which assessed the prevalence of Candida species in periodontal diseases. The results of 21 studies were indicative of a positive association between Candida species and periodontal diseases. Accordingly, it was concluded that there is a strong association between the presence of Candida species and periodontal diseases.

Textile concrete is an innovative composite material that has been the subject of intensive research since the beginning of the 90s of the last century. After the approval of the rules and regulations on its application to strengthen floor slabs, an important step was taken towards its entry into the building materials market. Questions regarding the reinforcement of rod-shaped load-bearing elements of building structures need additional research. Despite the great potential available, the method of tying load-bearing supports and columns is still not well understood. There is a need for research on a wide range of geometric parameters and the reinforcement systems used. The Institute of Reinforced Concrete of the Higher Technical School in Leipzig tested various samples of carbon-reinforced samples in a wide range of geometrical parameters. Their goal was to assess the effect on a possible increase in the bearing capacity of carbon-reinforced columns at a concentrated point load.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to test and present the level of introversion/extroversion of the urban housing in Istanbul in three periods – traditional, modern and contemporary. It intends to examine changes in the boundaries between housing and urban environment in the city by evaluating housing interfaces and their components. Design/methodology/approach By adopting literature review, observation and comparison methods, the hypothesis that houses in Istanbul are becoming introvert in contemporary period is stated and tested. The qualifications of housing interfaces and their components are examined in the context of three different periods of housing – traditional, modern and contemporary. Common components of interfaces in all periods are identified and different housing types from all periods are compared accordingly. Findings The results of the comparison made within the study shows that contemporary housing units are much more introvert than previous periods in Istanbul, while housing units of modern period have the most potentiality to be extrovert. It is seen that the analysis method comparing interfacial components and its results are compatible with the hypothesis of the study. Originality/value Considering recent and great number of urban problems in Istanbul, the subject of introversion–extroversion in contemporary urban housing gains importance, which lacks in the literature and needs studying. Introversion of housing units affects both domestic life and their urban environment. Developing contemporary housing projects with a human ecological perspective would cure both interior and exterior of urban boundaries.

The dual-track tracking CSP system is an amelioration of the traditional photo-thermal power system. One advantage of this system is that the heliostat, with its movable support and slip frame, can be powered to instantly keep track with the sun, thus promoting the efficacy of the generator. The supporting structure of the heliostats has an enormous bulk, and being removable, it encompasses many links to pass the complicated force. Furthermore, the cooperation of various parts of the system, such as the structure, control system, opticator, and mechanical parts, must be taken into consideration in the design process. Therefore technical feasibility becomes the premise for the realization of the system, and its production cost determines the scale of its practical application. Based on the working principle of the dual-track tracking CSP system, this paper makes an analysis of the features of the supporting system of the heliostat, clarifies some key points in the design and optimization of the supporting structure, and puts forward some advice on the solution of the problems.

Equipment installed on the supporting structure responds to the earthquake floor motion, which is strongly amplified by the structural response of the supporting structure. The required yield strength of equipment can be reduced by allowing inelastic deformation of the supporting structure and its equipment. Inelastic behavior of the supporting structure can significantly reduce elastic floor response spectra, especially their peak values. Furthermore, the allowance of inelastic deformation of equipment in strongly amplified spectral region produces a significant reduction in the required yield strength of equipment. In this study, we discussed inelastic behavior of single-degree-of-freedom(SDOF) systems installed on the supporting structures by using constant-ductility floor response spectra. Constant-ductility floor response spectra readily provide the yield strength of a SDOF system necessary to limit the ductility demand imposed by an earthquake floor motion to a specified value. Based on these discussions, we propose simple and conservative equations of the yield strength reduction factor of nonlinear inelastic SDOF systems with the natural period, the ductility factor and the stiffness ratio for earthquake floor motions.

The object of this research is the transport hub in urban environment, while the subject is the engineering capacity of its design. Based on the previously conducted classification, the author determines the key trends in modern engineering practice, illustrated by the examples of Russian and foreign projects. The goal of this research is to explore the peculiarities of design characteristics of a transport hub in urban environment and give them a comprehensive description. Special attention is turned to characteristics as the range of colors and materials. The author examines the coloristic solution of the compositions of transport hub, as well as the impact of color perception upon the stress level of the passengers. The main results of this research consist in the determined coloristic characteristics of TPU-design depending on the spatial structure of the hub and its location in the urban environment. The novelty lies in the analysis of transport hubs from the perspective of design, as well as in outlining the term “TPU-design”, which characterizes the entirety of the elements of spatial composition and artistic-expressive means. The author's special contribution consists in accumulation and systematization of information on the most interesting projects of transport hubs from the perspective of the concept of “TPU-design”.

The study consists of two parts. In the first one, the author outlines a methodological concept of researching the quality of compositional and artistic spatial systems that are created, for example, in the urban environment with the participation of, inter alia, architectural objects and works of art. The subject of this type of research was called a ‘compositional situation’. In the second part, the author uses the proposed research method to analyze specific cases. These are two situations existing in the public spaces of Mexico City, in which sculptures of famous Mexican sculptor Sebastian were located.
