In selective laser sintering powder forming, the performance and dimensional accuracy of the formed part are affected by the process parameters. Different materials have different process parameters, and there is still no reference standard for PA materials. To solve this problem, in response to this problem, PA2200 material was selected, and the influence of scanning interval and scanning speed on the dimensional accuracy of the formed part was analyzed. Through theoretical analysis and experiments, the optimal process parameters were obtained. The best combination of parameters is a scanning speed of 4000mm/s, a scanning interval of 0.5mm, and the size of the molded part has a X-axis deviation -0.35%, a Y-axis deviation -0.4%, and a Z-axis deviation -0.25%.

Warpage is a crucial factor to accuracy of sintering part in selective laser sintering (SLS) process. In this paper, The influence of process parameters on warpage when sintering polystyrene(PS) materials in SLS are investigated. The laser power, scanning speed, hatch spacing, layer thickness as well as temperature of powder are considered as the main process parameters. The results showed that warpage increases with the increase of hatch space. Contary to it, warpage decreases with the increase of laser power. Warpage decreases with the increase of layer thickness between 0.16~0.18mm and changes little with increase of the thickness. Warpage increases along with the increase of scanning speed but decreases when the speed is over about 2000mm/s. When the temperature changes between 82°C-86°C, warpage decreases little with the increase of temperature. But further increase of temperature leads to warpage decreasing sharply when the temperature changes between 86°C-90°C.

The material in powder state has long been used by selective laser sintering (SLS) for making rapid prototyping (RP) parts. A new approach to fabricate smoother surface roughness RP parts of ceramic material from slurry-sate has been developed in this study. The silica slurry was successfully laser-gelling in a self-developed laser sintering equipment. In order to overcome the insufficient bonding strength between layers, a strategy is proposed to generate ceramic parts from a single line, a single layer, to multi-layers of gelled cramic in this paper. It is found that when the overlap of each single line is 25% and the over-gel between layers is 30%, stronger and more accurate dimensional parts can be obtained under a laser power of 15W, a laser scanning speed of 250 mm/s, and a layer thickness of 0.1 mm. The 55:45 wt. % of the proportion between the silica powder and silica solution results in suitable viscosity of the ceramic slurries without precipitation. Furthermore, the effects of process parameters for the dimensional accuracy and surface roughness of the gelled parts are investigated and appropriate parameters are obtained.

The dimensional accuracy and mechanics properties of parts made by Selective Laser Sintering depend greatly on the sintering process parameters. The influence of process parameters on warping weight of parts sintered by blends of polyamide (PA12) and high density polyethylene (HDPE) was studied. The relationship between the process parameters and the warping height was presented. The surface morphology of the part and uniformity of powder mixed were analyzed by SEM. The optimum parameters of minimum warping height were obtained: preheat temperature 110°C, scan speed 300mm/s, laser power 21W, thickness of single layer 0.2mm.

This paper presents experimental investigations on influence of important process parameters viz., laser power, scan speed, layer thickness, hatching space along with their interactions on dimensional accuracy of Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) processed pro-coated sand mold. It is observed that dimensional error is dominant along length and width direction of built mold. Optimum parameters setting to minimize percentage change in length and width of standard test specimen have been found out using Taguchi’s parameter design. Optimum process conditions are obtained by analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used to understand the significance of process variables affecting dimension accuracy. Scan speed and hatching space are found to be most significant process variables influencing the dimension accuracy in length and width. And laser power and layer thickness are less influence on the dimension accuracy. The optimum processing parameters are attained in this paper: laser power 11 W; scan speed 1200 mm/s; layer thickness 0.5 mm and hatching space 0.25 mm. It has been shown that, on average, the dimensional accuracy under this processing parameters combination could be improved by approximately up to 25% compared to other processing parameters combinations.

The dilution rate has a significant impact on the composition and microstructure of the coatings, and the dilution rate and process parameters have a complex coupling relationship. In this study, three process parameters, namely laser power, powder feeding rate, and scanning speed, were selected as variables to design the orthogonal experiment. The dilution rate and hardness data were obtained from AlCoCrFeNi coatings based on orthogonal experiments. Then, a BP neural network was used to establish a prediction model of the process parameters on the dilution rate. The established BP neural network exhibited good prediction of the dilution rate of AlCoCrFeNi coatings, and the average relative error between the predicted value and the experimental value was only 5.89%. Subsequently, the AlCoCrFeNi coating was fabricated with the optimal process parameters. The results show that the coating was well-formed without defects, such as cracks and pores. The microhardness of the AlCoCrFeNi coating prepared with the optimal process parameters was 521.6 HV0.3. The elements were uniformly distributed in the microstructure, and the grain size was about 20–60 μm. The microstructure of the AlCoCrFeNi coating was only composed of the BCC phase without the existence of the FCC phase and intermetallic compounds.

This article proposes a rapid prototyping apparatus of selective laser sintering for forming silica ceramic green parts. The main differences between the proposed and other RP processes for forming ceramic part are the slurry material used to obtain fine layer thickness and the capability of constructing support structure to increase the dimensional accuracy of the workpiece having an overhang. The RP apparatus developed by us comprises a laser scanning system, a material paving system, and a computer control system. A CO2 laser is adopted to scan over a mixture made of a silica sol and silica powder. The silica sol acts as a binder to gel the silica powder together, which forms a 3D object using laser gelation method. A series of experiments were carried out to obtain the optimal process parameters. An SEM is employed to analyze the microstructure of the ceramic part. It has been found that the smallest layer is of 100 μm thick. The results show that both the accuracy of the material paving mechanism and the optimal process parameters can fulfill the requirements of the RP processes.

This article aims to improve the sintering quality of the sisal fiber/poly-(ether sulfone) (PES) composite (SFPC) part fabricated via selective laser sintering (SLS). The sisal fiber and PES powders were proposed as the feedstock of the SFPC powder bed for SLS. An orthogonal experimental methodology with four levels and five factors was applied to optimize the process parameters for the single-layer sintering experiment. The mechanical properties and accurate dimensions of the sintered part were tested using a universal testing machine and Vernier caliper. The preheating temperature, scanning speed, and laser power were selected as influencing factors on the mechanical properties and accuracy dimensions of the SFPC part. Furthermore, the influence factors on the quality of the sintered part were studied and analyzed. Additionally, the synthesis weighted scoring method was used to determine the optimum parameters of the SLS part. The results showed that the optimal parameters (factors) were preheating temperature of 82°C, scanning speed of 2 m s−1, laser power of 14 W, and laser wavelength of 10.6 μm. Thus, the quality of SFPC part was significantly enhanced when the optimum parameters were applied in SLS process. This article provided the main reference value for the choice of the process parameters of the biomass composite.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the strut size and tilt angle on the densification behavior, surface roughness and dimensional accuracy of the selective laser melting AlSi10Mg lattice structure was investigated in this study. In this study, the characteristics such as the density, up-skin and down-skin roughness and dimensional accuracy of selective laser melting forming technology manufacturing (SLMed) AlSi10Mg cellular lattice structure were carried. This work reveals the effect of the strut size and tilt angle on the geometric characteristics of SLMed AlSi10Mg and is benefit for controlling the forming performance of the SLMed cellular lattice structure. Design/methodology/approach Based on AlSi10Mg powder, the influence of the tilt angle changed from 10° to 45° with an increment of 5° were investigated, the influence of the strut size was varied from 0.4 mm to 1.2 mm with an increment of 0.2 mm were investigated. The characteristics such as the density, up-skin and down-skin roughness, dimensional accuracy and mechanical properties of SLM-ed AlSi10Mg cellular lattice structure was carried. Findings Greater than 99% relative density can be achieved for different strut size when optimal process parameters are used. In the optimized process interval, the struts with a tilt angle of 10° can still be formed well, which is higher than the design limit of the inclined angle given in the related literature. The tilt angle has a significant effect on the surface roughness of the strut. The microhardness reached to 157 ± 3 HV, and the maximum compressive strength was 58.86 MPa, with the optimal process parameters. Originality/value In this study, the characteristics such as the density, up-skin and down-skin roughness and dimensional accuracy of SLMed AlSi10Mg cellular lattice structure were carried. With the optimal geometric parameters, the authors tested microhardness and compressive strength of the cellular lattice structure. The results of this study provide theoretical and experimental basis for the realization of high-quality manufacturing and optimization design of aluminum alloy cellular lattice structure, which will meet more diversified industrial needs.

Inconel 718 is a nickel-based superalloy and an excellent candidate for the aerospace, oil, and gas industries due to its high strength and corrosion resistance properties. The machining of IN718 is very challenging; therefore, the application of additive manufacturing (AM) technology is an effective approach to overcoming these difficulties and for the fabrication of complex geometries that cannot be manufactured by the traditional techniques. Selective laser melting (SLM), which is a laser powder bed fusion method, can be applied for the fabrication of IN718 samples with high accuracy. However, the process parameters have a high impact on the properties of the manufactured samples. In this study, a prediction model is developed for obtaining the optimal process parameters, including laser power, hatch spacing, and scanning speed, in the SLM process of the IN718 alloy. For this purpose, artificial neural network (ANN) modeling with various algorithms is employed to estimate the process outputs, namely, sample height and surface hardness. The modeling results fit perfectly with the experimental output, and this consequently proves the benefit of ANN modeling for predicting the optimal process parameters.
