Mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) creates more opportunities for learners to access learning resources more easily and selfdirectly without time and place limitation. Thus, this study aimed at developing MALL materials to support the English oral communicative learning of Thai airport immigration police officers based on needs analysis and exploring the quality of MALL materials to support English oral communicative learning of Thai Airport Immigration police officers.The instruments of this study were the semi-structured interviews with the officers in order to conduct needs analysis, and the IOC (Item-Objective Congruence) form for experts to validate the materials developed, and the questionnaire to assess the officers’ opinions after using the materials to explore the quality. ADDIE model was applied to guide the overall process of developing the materials. The findings indicated that the self-instructional MALL materials laded in WeChat public platform that consisted of two units, Arrival and Departure, and ten lessons that were under each unit, both of which were accordance with the airport immigration officers’ needs. Moreover, the evaluation based on the officers’ opinions revealed that the MALL materials had high quality of content, rational organization, pleasant presentation and convenient functions of the platform.

Aim/Purpose: To develop a framework for utilizing Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) to assist non-native English migrant women to acquire English vocabulary in a non-formal learning setting. Background: The women in this study migrated to Australia with varied backgrounds including voluntary or forced migration, very low to high levels of their first language (L1), low proficiency in English, and isolated fulltime stay-at-home mothers. Methodology: A case study method using semi-structured interviews and observations was used. Six migrant women learners attended a minimum of five non-MALL sessions and three participants continued on and attended a minimum of five MALL sessions. Participants were interviewed pre- and post-sessions. Data were analysed thematically. Contribution: The MALL framework is capable of enriching migrant women’s learning experience and vocabulary acquisition. Findings: Vocabulary acquisition occurred in women from both non-MALL and MALL environment; however, the MALL environment provided significantly enriched vocabulary learning experience. Future Research: A standardised approach to measure the effectiveness of MALL for vocabulary acquisition among migrant women in non-formal setting

Introduction. The strive for high quality of Russian higher education, puts an emphasis on seeking the ways to improve it in the line with the topical Global educational agenda. In the context of this study provision of high quality education is defined as managing students experience in and out of the classroom as an integrative whole which is indispensable for maximising educational outcomes. Though Russian universities have a steady intake of international students on mobility programmes, there are not enough studies modelling the application of these dimensions in Russian academic setting. The current study seeks for the pathways to overcome this gap.Aim. The article is targeted to rethink the strategy of managing high quality education for international students and to work out and test an integrated model for the educational quality enhancement regarding two critical dimensions of their university training in curricular-related and co-curricular areas.Methodology and research methods. Mixed research methods were utilised. Individual interviews and a survey with close-ended and open-ended items were used to find out challenging issues impeding the development of high quality education offered in curricular and co-curricular related dimensions. Classroom observation, peer experts opinions and content analysis of the courses taught and their outcomes evaluation were applied at the University of Tyumen, being 5-100 project participant, to indicate the components, pedagogical toolkit and competencies for high educational quality of international students.Results and scientific novelty. The developed integrated model for high educational quality provision included the main interrelated curricular and co-curricular components of quality enhancement. They involved the designed up-to-date academic Russian course; teacher-student interactive support, socio-cultural and intellectual engagement such as “buddy” scheme studentto-student support, discussion workshops on intercultural awareness of students and teaching staff. Teaching methods of reflection, critical analysis, confirmatory feedback, communities, project-based and action oriented learning, group discussions, language tandems were proposed. Major competencies for international students’ curricular-based and co-curricular educational quality were suggested: critical reading and reflection, academic writing, negotiating, argumentation, logical cohesion, intercultural and cross-cultural awareness, conflict avoidance, tolerance to ambiguity.Practical significance. The integrated model can be applied for road-mapping the action plan of international policy at any university in Russia to provide high quality education for international students.

Abstract Syringe Services Programs (SSPs) provide sterile needles and a range of health services (e.g., HIV and HEP-C testing, overdose prevention education, provision of naloxone) to a hard-to-reach population, including people who inject drugs (PWID), aiming to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases. We performed a qualitative needs assessment of existing SSPs in the state of Colorado in 2018-2019 to describe the SSP activities, needs, and barriers. We performed semi-structured interviews with key program staff of SSPs (n=11). All interviews were digitally recorded, transcribed, and validated. Qualitative researchers coded each transcript and maintained coding consistency through coding statistics (Kappa coefficient > 0.80) between coders. Memos were written to synthesize main themes. Nearly all the SSPs discussed their relationships with law enforcement at length. All SSPs viewed having a positive relationship with law enforcement as critical to the success of their program. Main factors that influence the quality of relationships between SSPs and law enforcement included: 1) alignment in agency culture, 2) support from law enforcement leadership, 3) police officers’ participation and compliance with the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) program, which provides intensive case management for low-level drug offenders, and 4) implementation of the “Needle-Stick Prevention Law” and Drug Paraphernalia Law Exemption. All SSPs expressed a strong desire to have positive relationships with law enforcement and described how a collaborative working relationship was critical to the success of their programs. Our findings suggest effective strategies to foster relationships between SSPs and law enforcement as well as key barriers to address.

<p class="0abstract">Proficiency in English occupies a significant place in the newly formed Kurdistan region of Iraq.  English is considered a window of opportunities and economic development of its people and the region. The quality of teaching and learning plays a crucial role in achieving the objective. However, the lack of trained teachers in English at the school level has severely affected the standards of English at the tertiary level. Students pursuing undergraduate courses at Cihan University find it a challenging task to meet the required standards. The lack of a strong foundation in English in addition to the constraints of time and the high standards of the curriculum at the tertiary level makes it more challenging for the teachers to teach them writing skills. The present study aims at exposing the Kurdish students to English collocations vocabulary through Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) to enhance their writing and communicative purposes. Twenty-five students from undergraduate courses were randomly selected for the purpose of the study. The results have shown an improved performance of the students in using the right collocations. The study brings out the need for integrating MALL in the regular curriculum at the tertiary levels in Kurdistan.</p>


The focus of this article to examining the District Monitoring Officer (DMO) and Assistant Commissioner (AC)’s perception for Literacy & Numeracy Drive (LND) a mobile-based application that is used in primary schools of public sector in Punjab province, Pakistan to teach student of Grade 03 on a tablet for learning languages and Mathematics. This study aims to gauge the efficacy of LND for its usefulness, usability, accessibility, content, and assessments. Semi-Structured interviews conducted for the purpose of study from the DMO and AC of District Sheikhupura, to measure the effectiveness of LND and evaluate the effectiveness. The result reveals, in its current form, the LND application is not effective and needs improvement in usability, design, content, accessibility, infrastructure, and assessment. Furthermore, DMO and AC recommended that game-based learning consists of an interactive interface, phonics, animations to be developed and adopted. As a more interactive and attractive presentation of the content and variations in the assessment may increase students’ involvement and will make this application more effective and will produce good results.

In response to the research priorities of members of TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages), this study investigated language learners’ real-world tasks in mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) to inform the future development of pedagogic tasks for academic English as a second language (ESL) courses. The data included initial semistructured interviews with four ESL teachers and four college ESL students followed by an online task-based needs analysis conducted with 23 ESL teachers and 76 college ESL students at a university in the midwestern United States. Through the interviews and surveys, we identified how teachers and students used mobile devices and how they felt mobile devices could be used in language learning, and we categorized their target tasks in MALL according to the four language skills (reading, listening, speaking, and writing). The study found that ESL learners already use various mobile device functions, but that ESL instructors were less inclined to use these for teaching, suggesting that teachers may need further support and ideas before they can help their learners take advantage of their mobile devices for language learning. Both learners and teachers gave high rankings to tasks for listening and speaking as well as to activities integrated with SMS and the Internet. Based on the identified tasks, we created a MALL task typology to provide an initial authentic and sound resource for the future development of MALL tasks, lesson plans, and curricula.En réponse aux priorités de recherche des membres de TESOL (enseignement de l’anglais à des apprenants étrangers), cette étude a porté sur les tâches réelles dans le contexte de l’apprentissage mobile des langues pour ensuite éclairer le développement de tâches pédagogiques pour l’anglais académique dans les cours d’anglais langue seconde (ALS). La collecte des données a inclus des entrevues initiales semi-structurées auprès de quatre enseignants d’ALS et quatre étudiants d’ALS à l’université, ainsi qu’une analyse des besoins basée sur les tâches et accomplie en ligne auprès de 23 enseignants d’ALS et 76 étudiants d’ALS dans une université du Midwest des États-Unis. Les entrevues et les enquêtes ont permis d’identifier l’emploi que faisaient les enseignants et les étudiants des appareils mobiles ainsi que leurs perceptions du rôle que pouvaient jouer les appareils dans l’apprentissage d’une langue. Par la suite, nous avons classé leurs tâches cibles selon quatre compétences linguistiques (lecture, écoute, expression orale et rédaction). Les résultats indiquent que les apprenants d’ALS se servent déjà de diverses fonctions des appareils mobiles mais que les enseignants d’ALS étaient moins portés à s’en servir pour l’enseignement, ce qui porte à croire qu’il faudrait peutêtre leur offrir plus d’appui et d’idées de sorte à ce qu’ils soient en mesure d’aider les apprenants à profiter de leurs appareils mobiles pour apprendre la langue. Tant les apprenants que les enseignants ont attribué beaucoup d’importance aux tâches liées à l’écoute, à l’expression orale, à la messagerie texte et à l’Internet. À partir des tâches identifiées, nous avons créé une typologie des tâches pour l’apprentissage mobile des langues, fournissant ainsi une première ressource authentique et solide pour le développement futur de tâches, de plans de cours et de programmes d’étude dans le domaine.

Abstract Background Leadership has a vital role regarding quality of care in nursing homes. However, few studies have explored upper-level managers’ views on how to assure that residents receive high quality of care. Therefore, this study’s aim was to examine how managers of top-quality nursing homes define, develop and maintain high-quality of care. Method We used interpretive description, an inductive, qualitative approach. Our research included 13 semi-structured interviews with 19 managers. We analyzed their input using reflexive thematic analysis, which is an iterative approach. Results Quality development and maintenance are cyclic processes. Managers in high-performing nursing homes lead with high commitment towards a person-centred quality of care, creating appropriate working conditions and continuously co-creating a vision and the realization of quality of care together with employees. Conclusions This study confirms that, in high-performing nursing homes, a person-centered approach—one where both residents and employees are at the center—is essential for quality development and maintenance. The most effective managers exemplify “person centeredness”: they lead by example and promote quality-focused working conditions. Such strategies motivate employees to provide person-centered care. As this means focusing on residents’ needs, it results in high care quality.

This study aims to explore the application of analytical procedures (AP) as a major external auditing procedure in the developing country context of Jordan, a context characterised by the prevalence of closely held businesses, and limited demand for an external audit of high quality (Abdullatif, 2016; Almarayeh, Aibar-Guzman, & Abdullatif, 2020). To do so, the researchers conducted semi-structured interviews with twelve experienced Jordanian external auditors. The main issues covered are the detailed use of AP as an audit procedure and the most significant issues that may limit the effectiveness and reliability of this procedure in the Jordanian context. The main findings of the study include that AP are generally used and favoured by Jordanian auditors, despite their recognition of several problems facing the application of AP, and potentially limiting its reliability and effectiveness. These problems include weak internal controls of some clients, low quality of data provided by some clients, a lack of availability of specialised audit software for many auditors, and a lack of local Jordanian industry benchmarks that can be used to develop expectations necessary for the proper application of AP. The study recommends the establishment of such industry benchmarks, along with better monitoring by the regulatory authorities of the quality of company data, and increasing the efforts of these authorities on promoting the auditors’ use of specialised audit software in performing AP

Albania is looking to take its place within Europe. To do so, the nation needs to develop more skilled and educated working population. Following the political and economic changes of 1991, the system of higher education in Albania has not necessarily been adequately organised or capable of providing a sufficiently high-quality education. This paper will present some information on higher education (including degree and diploma programmes) in Albania during the transition and in the present day, and give attention to the development of higher education in the country and conclude with some suggestions for improving public universities and education infrastructure and increasing the quality of the experience undergone by both students and academic staff.
