The article is devoted to the methodological and software tools for choosing organizational and technological solutions to maintain sewage collectors in an operable state to increase their service life. Such a tool must take into account a set of factors that affect the operation of sewer collectors and form a system, the implementation of which would improve the existing principles of monitoring the status of sewer collectors, identify effective organization and technological solutions of their renovation by taking into account factors that affect their safe operation, the facilities risk of accidents categories, conditions and parameters of works performance. For determining the optimal options for the renovation of the sewer collector using the developed mathematical and computer models, the results of problems solving were generalized: one-criterion optimization subject to the choice of one repair method; one-criterion optimization subject to the choice of different repair methods for the areas; multicriterion optimization.

The bonding problem of interface between the fresh and old concrete is one of the main technological difficulties in the Heightening Project of Danjiangkou Dam in the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. At present, no mature experiences or engineering examples are found in China for concrete dam heightening. Because of the external environmental impacts of temperature change, aging and hydraulic fracturing on the interface between the fresh and old concrete, crack is likely to occur, which brings risks to the safe operation of the dam. In this article, the finite element direct force method was used to calculate the internal force. The safety of No. 1 dam monolith was calculated in accordance with the standard method for gravity dam in three conditions of fresh-old concrete bonding interface, i.e., perfect condition, cracked interface and cracked interface with water seepage. Suggestions for their solutions were also provided.

On March 9, 1995, the Utah Digital Signature Act (the “Utah Act”) was signed into law.1 Complex and ambitious, the Utah Act is intended to promote the use of digital signatures on computer-based documents and to facilitate electronic commerce.2 The Utah Act implements an infrastructure in which computer users utilize “certification authorities,” online databases called repositories, and public-key encryption technology in order to “sign” electronic documents in a legally binding fashion. In addition to setting out a regulatory scheme designed to implement this infrastructure, the Utah Act provides certain digital signatures with legal status as valid signatures and addresses a variety of issues relating to the status of digitally-signed electronic documents in contract and evidence law.

As of February 2014, the NRC has renewed the operating licenses for 73 nuclear units, allowing for up to 60 years of safe operation. In addition, the NRC has license renewal applications under review for 18 units and 9 additional units have announced plans to submit applications over the next few years [1]. This brings the total of renewed licenses and plans for renewal to 100% of the operating nuclear units in the U.S. By the end of 2014, there will be 38 nuclear plants that will have operated for more than 40 years and will be eligible to seek a subsequent license renewal (or almost 40% of the nuclear units expected to be operating at the end of 2014). In 2013, nuclear plant owners of 5 units shutdown operation or announced plans to shutdown by the end of 2014. However, most of the remaining operating plant owners are keeping the option open for long term operation beyond 60 years. NRC and the U.S. nuclear industry have made significant progress in preparing the way for subsequent license renewal applications. This paper presents the status of the U.S. license renewal process and issues being addressed for possible applications for subsequent renewals for up to 80 years of operation.

Bernard Shaw is widely regarded as one of the most important playwrights in the English language, ranking often second only to Shakespeare. This literary prominence, however, is not matched by a significant number of stylistic analyses, much more so in the case of linguistically-oriented ones. One of the few studies in Shaviana with a clear stylistic approach is Ohmann’s (1962) monograph. However, it focuses on Shaw’s non-dramatic writings and, due to its publication date, it does not utilize software tools for corpus stylistics. The purpose of this paper is to analyze Bernard Shaw’s use of certain comparative structures in his dramatic writings (what Ohmann calls ‘Modes of Order’ in his book) with the aid of the technical and methodological advances of computer-based stylistics, thus utilizing an innovative outlook because of the combination of stylistics and corpora research.

This research evaluated the use of proteins associated with neurite outgrowth, synapse formation, and Schwann cell proliferation as surrogate measures for morphological measurement of rat sciatic nerve regeneration across a 10-mm gap in silicone rubber conduits (SRCs), genipin-crosslinked gelatin conduits (GGCs), and 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide (EDC)/N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS)-crosslinked gelatin conduits (ENGs). After eight weeks, axonal growth of regenerated nerves was determined using light microscopy and computer-based quantitative image analysis. Expression of the axonal growth-associated protein 43 (GAP-43), the synaptic protein synapsin I, and the transforming growth factors type β (TGF-βs) in regenerated nerves was assessed simultaneously by Western blot. As a result, the nerve regenerates in the SRCs and the ENGs had a significantly larger endoneurial area containing more myelinated axons compared to those in the GGCs at p < 0.05. The levels of GAP-43 and synapsin I, but not TGF-β, correlated well with axonal growth in the regenerated nerves. These data suggest that the combined techniques can be used to assess the status of regenerating axons in bridging conduits with different construction and physical properties.

ABSTRACTComputer-based models represent an important development that should provide a scientific basis for in-depth predictions of the behavior of materials. Aspects of microstructure models for cement-based systems are described. A computer model is described that can incorporate many assumptions in the form of sub-models. Specific algorithms are selected to solve specific parts of the problem. The algorithm chosen depends on specific problem requirements at each stage of calculation, and these problem requirements may not be anticipated in advance. An important part of these computer models is that they incorporate a file of numbers, representing the microstructure, which can be operated on to effect an incremental change in the system.

A recurring irony among political scientists is that they rarely display an interest in public policies which directly affect them. An example is the current national effort to formulate public policies for new information technologies, notably those technologies which are vital to academic research in the sciences and social sciences, such as computer-based information storage' and retrieval systems, photocopiers, and microduplication techniques. For almost two decades, lobbyists, public bureaucrats, and congressmen have been engaged in a formal and continuing attempt to revise radically the present principal expression of public policy for new information technologies, the Copyright Act of 1909.It is my purpose in this essay to explain cursorily how the copyright concept affects the uses and users of the information technology that would seem to have the greatest utility for research in political science — the computer — and review the status of efforts to change the copyright principle in such a way as to accommodate more comprehensively the new information technologies. As we shall see, how copyright law is revised may alter traditional patterns of knowledge use and its generation in political science.

The problem of managing the safe operation of hoisting machines with an expired service life is associated with solving extremely complex interrelated tasks through a set of organizational and technical measures aimed at establishing the actual risk and economic feasibility of further operation. The most important condition in this case is the conduct of an expert examination of industrial safety and technical diagnostics, the results of which make it possible to establish the real state of hoisting machines at the current time. The safety of hoisting machines, including after the expiration of the standard service life (assigned resource), is associated with design features, workmanship, installation quality, their operation modes and a number of other factors. However, for heavily loaded hoisting machines, the main technical obstacle to safe operation is metal fatigue The results of a statistical analysis of defects detected by expert diagnosis of self-propelled boom-type cranes that have fulfilled the standard operating period are presented. The largest number of defects is associated with the destruction and wear of structural elements, the occurrence of fatigue cracks and the violation of the operating conditions of the equipment. The greatest number of defects is found in the hydraulic system of cranes, elements of the cable-block system, less often in metal construction. To conduct a risk analysis of self-propelled jib cranes in conditions of insufficient information, a methodology for expert assessments is proposed. It allows you to evaluate the impact of potential defects of self-propelled jib cranes on the amount of economic damage to the crane itself and the transported load and on the magnitude of the traumatic impact on humans. Defects and damage to the metal structures of the cranes discovered during the examinations are the result of the following combination of reasons: low quality of the metal (mild steel); unsatisfactory design; unsatisfactory quality of manufacture and installation of individual elements; environmental aggressiveness; operation of cranes in an unintended mode, poor maintenance and repair Keywords: safety, propelled jib crane, defect, expert assessment, risk analysis, diagnosis.

In humanitarian crisis situations, there is always more than one organization or agency involved in early warning, preparedness, and response to the crisis. These participating actors usually need a shared computer-based framework to exchange information, monitor the status of the crisis, communicate and coordinate operations among them in order to make their collaborations better, and make the right decisions at the right times. The aim of this paper is to present a web framework that has a modular architecture. This web framework has been realized by advanced web technologies and design patterns in software engineering. It is made up of diverse web modules and can be reusable and configurable to adapt with particular crisis contexts. The feasibility as well as the efficiency of this web framework is also demonstrated in the paper through real and complex crisis management scenarios.

Kata kunci: Pemarkahan esei, sistem pengurusan tugasan, peralatan perisian, peralatan pemarkahan, penilaian pembelajaran This paper discusses an approach of developing a computer-based essay-marking tool. The marking tool has been implemented and integrated into CMS (Coursework Management System), a coursework management system that has been developed at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The paper will first discuss methods that lecturers normally used in marking essays and available automated essay marking systems, followed by a discussion on the design and implementation of the marking tool. This paper shows that a simple possible approach in developing a marking tool is by using available software tools, such as software tools that are provided by Microsoft Word. However, since software tools provided by Microsoft Word can only support the English language, this marking tools can only mark essays that are written in English. Key words: Essay marking, coursework management system, software tool, marking tool, learning assessment
