PET plastic waste is found everywhere in Banjarbaru City compared to other plastic wastes. It is an excellent prospect to reuse the PET plastic waste. The demand of mountain rock and stone from natural resources increases as happened in Aranio Sub District, Banjar Regency. This research is expected to find one way of suppressing the growth of the number of stone mines or natural stone. Based on SNI 03-0691-1996, the classification of the paving block differentiated according to its usage class, one of which is the C quality used by pedestrians. PET waste used as a coarse aggregate previously processed into aggregate with the ratio of cement material, fine aggregate, a coarse aggregate of 1:6:4. PET waste is processed by melting PET and forming into aggregates. The paving with PET waste process by a hydraulic press machine and tested for strength after 28 days. The result of weight measurement with the specimen increases the amount of PET in the paving block mixture, the paving weight decreases as well as the compressive strength.

Nowadays, Environmental concern towards plastic waste rises because of its low degradability and creating problems like chunking sewer lines, drainages, waterways, filling landfills, health problems, etc. The best approach is recycling and reuses plastic waste. Increase in the production of plastic day by day but, very little was recycled. On the other hand, huge demand for concrete in the construction industry. Utilization of recycled plastic waste in the production of sustainable concrete by partial replacement of fine aggregate. This study has been investigated the utilization of two types of recycled plastic waste Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) and Polypropylene (PP) as fine aggregate in concrete. M30 grade of concrete has been used by partial replacement of fine aggregate (River Sand) with recycled plastic waste in the percentage of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25. The workability and compressive strength results are checked to find the acceptable percentage of incorporation of PET and PP in concrete. From the results, it is observed that the workability is decreased as the percentage of recycled plastic waste is increased. The Optimum Percentage of replacement of PET is 10%. PP has shown a marginal reduction in compressive strength for 5% replacement.

The urbanization process contributes to the growth of solid waste generation and causes an increase in environmental impacts and failures in the management of solid waste. The number of dumps is a concern due to the limited implementation and safe disposal of this waste. The interest in sustainable techniques has been growing in relation to waste management, which is largely absorbed by the civil construction sector. This work aimed to review plastic waste, especially polyethylene terephthalate (PET), that can be incorporated with construction materials, such as concrete, mortars, asphalt mixtures, and paving. The use of life-cycle assessment (LCA) is related, as a tool that allows the sustainability of products and processes to be enhanced in the long term. After analyzing the recent literature, it was identified that studies related to plastic wastes in construction materials concentrate sustainability around the alternative destination of waste. Since the plastic waste from different production chains are obtained, it was possible to affirm the need for a broader assessment, such as the LCA, providing greater quantification of data making the alternative processes and products more sustainable. The study contributes to enhance sustainability in alternative building materials through LCA.

AbstractPlastic pollution is a pressing issue because authorities struggle to contain and process the enormous amount of waste produced. We study the potential for reducing plastic waste by examining the efficiency with which different polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles deliver beverages. We find that 80% of the variation in bottle weight is explained by bottle capacity, 16% by product category, and 1% by brand. Bottle weight is quadratic and convex function of capacity, which implies that medium capacity bottles are most efficient at delivering consumable product. Local data on PET bottle sales and municipal waste recovery validate the findings. A 20% shift in consumption from smaller to larger bottles could reduce the production of PET waste by over 10,000 t annually in the U.S. alone.

Purpose Fracture properties depend on the type of material, method of testing and type of specimen. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate fracture properties by adopting a stable test method, i.e., wedge split test. Design/methodology/approach Coarse aggregate of three different sizes (20 mm, 16 mm and 12.5 mm), three ratios of coarse aggregate, fine aggregate (CA:FA) (50:50, 45:55, 40:60), presence of steel fibers, and specimens without and with guide notch were chosen as parameters of the study. Findings Load-crack mouth opening displacement curves indicate that for both fibrous and non-fibrous mixes, higher volume of aggregate and higher size of coarse aggregate have high fracture energy. Originality/value For all volumes of coarse aggregate, it was noticed that specimens with 12.5 mm aggregate size achieved highest peak load and abrupt drop post-peak. The decrease in coarseness of internal structure of concrete (λ) resulted in the increase of fracture energy.

ABSTRACTThe effects of waste polyethylene aggregate as admixture agent in Portland cement at different addition polyethylene/cement ratios from 0.0156 to 0.3903 were investigated. The reinforced samples were prepared according the ASTM C 150 Standard (samples of 5 × 5 × 5 cm). The reinforcing fibers were milling at a size of 1/25 in diameter, form waste and used them to evaluate the effects in mechanical properties in cement-based composites. The evaluation of polyethylene as additive was based on results of density and compression tests. The 28-day compressive strength of cement reforced with plastic waste at a replacement polyethylene/cement ratio of 0.0468 was 23.5 MPa compared to the control concrete (7.5 MPa). The density of cement replaced with polyethylene varies from 2.114 (0% polyethylene) to 1.83 g/cm3 by the influence of polyethylene.

Plastic is referred to as a “material of every application”. From the packaging and automotive industries to the medical apparatus and computer electronics sectors, plastic materials are fulfilling demands efficiently. These plastics usually end up in landfills and incinerators, creating plastic waste pollution. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in 2015, 9.1% of the plastic materials generated in the U.S. municipal solid waste stream was recycled, 15.5% was combusted for energy, and 75.4% was sent to landfills. If we can produce high-value chemicals from plastic wastes, a range of various product portfolios can be created. This will help to transform chemical industries, especially the petrochemical and plastic sectors. In turn, we can manage plastic waste pollution, reduce the consumption of virgin petroleum, and protect human health and the environment. This review provides a description of chemicals that can be produced from different plastic wastes and the research challenges involved in plastic waste to chemical production. This review also provides a brief overview of the state-of-the-art processes to help future system designers in the plastic waste to chemicals area.

AbstractThe harmful effects of aviation can only be reduced by using alternative fuels with excellent burning properties and a high hydrogen content in the constituent molecules. The research objective focuses on testing the characteristics of the Laston Lapis Aus mixture, the aggregate taken later to be studied is the aggregate of Concrete Waste. The method used in this study included testing the properties of coarse aggregate, fine aggregate and filler, after that the Laston Lapis Aus mixture design was carried out after that the marshall test was carried out while the marshalltest was carried out namely the conventional marshall to get the characteristic value. The results showed that the characteristics of the pavement material in the form of aggregates from Concrete Waste tested the 2018 Bina Marga General Specifications as road layers. Through Marshall testing, the characteristics of the Laston Lapis Aus mixture were abtained with asphalt levels of 5,50%, 6,00%, 6,50%, 7,00%, and 7,50%.
