The paper studies peculiarities of introducing the course of “Fundamentals of Academic Writing,” into the Ukrainian education and scientific process. The integration of the Ukrainian science into the European space caused the necessity of including “Academic Writing” into the Ukrainian curricula. Fundamentals of a new academic discipline are represented through the prism of world and national achievements, which determine such concepts as “academic communication”, “academic etiquette”, “academic integrity”, “the quality of academic text”. This research focuses on the following major issues: What is the essence of “Academic Writing”? Is it a brand new course? How does it affect the ranking of higher education institutions? How should intertextual tools be used to keep the academic integrity? How does the level of English proficiency affect the quality of the Ukrainian scientific products? Is the course of “Academic Writing” a tribute to fashion or a vital necessity? It also investigates the peculiarities of academic fundamentals required for development of certain knowledge, skills and abilities of the Ukrainian language academic writing. The latter aims not only to promote academic integrity by following ethical principles and statutory rules that should guide the participants of the education process while studying, training and conducting research activities, but also to represent the concepts, strategies and tactics of organizing the processes of academic text creation, analysis and editing.

This chapter presents and discusses policies on education assessment in Brazil. A major evaluation system is examined regarding higher education (undergraduate and graduate). This evaluation system provides general guidelines and criteria for educational levels, and organizes evaluation procedures in diverse documents. Part of these documents includes evaluation in music education. The purpose of this chapter is to critically analyze documents that refer to the assessment of Brazilian education, discussing how such documents are interpreted and applied in practice. In general, the documents have internal coherence, and the main objective is to contribute to the quality of Brazilian education. However, the documents do not always interact with each other, which contributes to the partitioning of the assessment procedures throughout the education process.

Every historical period forms a special generation with its own values and norms. Children and youth become the main driving force in the development of the higher education, but this system in Russia is going through a difficult period due to the problems unresolved after the 1990s: the quality, accessibility and effectiveness of the higher education, inequalities in the access to education, etc. Therefore, intellectual competitions can be considered not only a positive manifestation of the social activity of schoolchildren, but also a means to support talented youth and ensure the interconnection of secondary and higher education systems. The article considers social aspects of the intellectual competitions for schoolchildren which aim at the development of social practices related to research activities and teaching at school. The authors focus on the research and practice-oriented interests of schoolchildren within the intellectual competitions in social studies: priorities, values and life strategies of schoolchildren when choosing the sphere of their interests. The authors analyzed the written projects of schoolchildren, presentations of these projects, responses to experts’ questions, reactions to questions not directly related to the topic of the presented project, further participation in the section, and some additional information. As a result, the authors made conclusions not only about the content of the priorities, values and life strategies of schoolchildren, but also about the procedure and conditions necessary for assessing the quality of work and the creative potential of participants of intellectual competitions.

Plagiarism has become a recurrent challenge in higher education institutions, threatening the integrity of universities and their academic standards. The exacerbation of this issue can be largely linked to the escalating presence of online resources, which are easily accessible to knowledge and information communities worldwide. Many universities have thus instituted reactive measures that focus on detecting and policing plagiarism with little consideration of proactive and educational measures that can address the primary reasons for plagiarism and foster a community of academic integrity on their campuses. The purpose of this paper is, therefore, to interrogate the treatment of plagiarism in universities, and provide recommendations for better educational approaches to address this issue in proactive ways that also acknowledge the complex, contextual background of the South African higher education landscape. Understanding the primary reasons students plagiarise is critical in finding educational rather than punitive solutions to address the issue.

Now it is one of the most authoritative indicators of academic work. Today, higher education institutions of Ukraine in national and world rankings are evaluated not only by indicators of their academic and international activities, the quality of professional training of students, the results of inventive activity, but also by the level of publishing activity of researchers in journals indexed in international scientometric databases, by the number of citations of their works by other scientists.

The concept of academic integrity in a civilized world is not mythical by any means, it is rather an effective instrument for ensuring and enhancing the quality of higher education. Myths are born only in heads of individual weak-minded people who are deliberately unwilling to notice the urgency of problem, and even have some benefits to it. That is why the Ukrainian high school shall cease to live with myths in time, and move on to effective actions, implementing fundamental ethical values not by word but by deed. I. Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine developed an Internal Code of Honour. The University seeks to create an environment conducive to learning, work, innovation, knowledge sharing, intellectual development of students and employees, support of a special academic culture of relationships. Each member of a university community, following the rules of this Code, directly contributes its invaluable contribution to the development of the entire university. The purpose of the Code is to create favourable conditions for the effective performance by members of university community of their duties, based on the principles of high social morality and culture; formation of a conscious moral and legal position of interactions of participants in the educational process; growth and strengthening of positive image of the University as a scientific and educational organization of innovative direction. The priority task of the University is to form a responsible person capable of creative thinking and self-solving of philosophical and professional tasks, to be ready for life and activities in the modern multicultural environment. In my opinion, starting from the next academic year, to the curriculum for the preparation of students of the specialty 226 “Pharmacy, Industrial Pharmacy” it is expedient to add the subject “Fundamentals of Academic Integrity”, with consideration of essence and principles of academic integrity, as well as general approaches to writing and defence of various types of scientific student works in compliance with the requirements concerning testing for plagiarism. This subject should become the basis of the block of subjects for carrying out scientific researches (taking into account educational and qualification level, professional orientation, academic mobility, etc.). At the same time, it is appropriate to develop the Code of Academic Integrity, based on its own traditions and many years of university experience, high standards in higher education. The key to implementing the Code will be the signing of declarations of academic integrity by lecturers and students. To prepare the students, integrating the laws and methods of many sciences, plays an important role in adding of Fundamentals of Academic Integrity, with consideration of essence and principles of academic integrity, as well as general approaches to writing and defence of various types of scientific student works in compliance with the requirements concerning testing for plagiarism. This subject should become the basis of the block of subjects for carrying out scientific researches (taking into account educational and qualification level, professional orientation, academic mobility, etc.). The observance of certain ethical principles and values will contribute to ensuring the high quality of higher education, the training of highly qualified masters of pharmacy, which will be competitive in the labour market not only in Ukraine but also abroad.
