Why do students vary in their performance on exams? It may be that their test preparation is insufficient because they overestimate their anticipated grade. Our study investigates four issues related to performance on a final examination. First, we analyze whether students’ ability to accurately predict their grade and their subjective confidence in this prediction may account for their grade. Second, we ask whether students at different levels of performance vary in their ability to accurately predict their grade, and if so, whether subjective confidence also differs. Third, we ask whether the accuracy and confidence of learners’ predictions are conditioned by self-efficacy beliefs and causal attribution habits, which serve as indices of motivation for test preparation. Fourth, we ask whether different causal attribution preferences contribute to self-efficacy. We use statistical analysis of data from a general education course at a large public university in the United States. Our results indicate that poor performers’ overestimates are likely to be wishful thinking as they are expressed with low subjective confidence. Self-efficacy is a significant contributor to the inaccuracy of students’ predicted grades and subjective confidence in such predictions. Professors’ understanding of learners’ forecasting mechanisms informs strategies devoted to academic success.

In a previous paper, we highlighted the design requirements of a computer-based system for the automated assessment of neuropsychological drawing tasks. In this paper, we shall examine the implementation of an analysis system specifically with reference to the software engineering principles utilized and the modular framework within with a flexible implementation can be realized. We shall highlight some of the implemented modules and, using two actual test batteries as examples, demonstrate the flow of information between each module. We shall also show the additional reporting and analysis features implemented for clinician support and describe how the framework can be utilized for more generic applications of handwriting/drawing analysis.

The examination is one of the most broadly used strategies for assessing learning and capacity of a student. Adamawa State University is engulfed in a lot of irregularities during examination and also delays of results after the examination. These and another manual method of processing results give room for errors during results compilation. The utilisation of Information and Communication Technology in directing examinations can enhance proficiency and decrease the delay of student's result after examination. A Computer Based Testing System (CBT) was designed and implemented to diminish the delay of student's examination result. The CBTS was designed using the Agile model of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Implementation was done utilising the open source technologies, like XAMPP server, MySQL, PhP, JavaScript, Cascading Style Sheet and Hypertext Markup Language. The CBT presents notice of student's outcome quickly in the wake of taking the examination, enable the student to retake the exam (where necessary), and furthermore give diverse kinds of questions. The utilisation of CBT system can enhance the productivity and gainfulness of scholarly establishments as it diminishes the cost of stationeries and work associated with conducting examination manually. This by implication can reduce the cost of buying examination materials (papers, printers, turners etc) and students can have their results immediately after the examination.  The developed system proved to be efficient and can be enhanced by adding other forms of questions like diagrammatic question to make the test address more diverse areas.

Abstract Nowadays requirements for training of qualified IT specialists constantly increase. These issues as well as possible solutions are discussed by both teachers and students on many seminars, forums and conferences. The paper studies different methods of students′ knowledge control and computer systems that are used at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology of Riga Technical University and demonstrates results of computer based students’ knowledge control use. Since 2005, two experiments have been held at the Department of Software Engineering in order to evaluate the efficiency of e-course application. The aim of the study is to determine how the use of e-courses for the control of knowledge affects the quality of education during the course studies given that students do not perform all the control activities. The results have shown that the highest examination results are achieved by the students who have completed all the control activities. It proves the influence of use of e-courses for knowledge control on quality of education.

The progress of communication technology has had a positive impact on human life, including in the field of education. The education office is currently implementing computer-based exams starting from the State Higher Education Entrance Joint Selection (SBMPTN) exam to the School Final Examination. But with the implementation of computer-based exams this is of course the less secure the level, therefore the authors make this research with the aim of securing the exam data that will be tested with Hill cipher cryptography and Caesar cipher. Cryptography is a technique of hiding data that is done to secure data, in this case cryptography aims to secure data on exam questions.
