In this study the water quality of Teluk Lake, Jambi Province by biological indices using macroobenthic during December 2017 to March 2018 were evaluated. Macro obenthic have been the most commonly indicator of running water quality to rapidly detect water quality changes. The methodology consisted on three stages: 1) macro invertebrates sampling and and sorting of the organisms in laboratory, 2) taxonomic identification of organisms and 3) determination and scoring with the Biological Monitoring Working Party -Average Score per Taxon (BMWP-ASPT) index. Result of water quality of Teluk Lake based on the diversity of macroinvertebrates was degraded with BMWP-ASPT index below 4. Based on the BMWP-ASPT score of the macroinvertebrates, both of sampling 1 and 2 were polluted with the category of medium and heavily polluted. In general, the decreasing of water quality of Teluk Lake was due to anthropogenic activities, so that the intolerant macro invertebrates could not survive in polluted waters while the tolerant ones can adapt well to the polluted aquatic environment.

The study was to investigate species composition and biological water quality of benthic macroinvertebrates among localities at Gwangseok stream, Jinhae city in Korea. The identified benthic macroinvertebrates were 781 individuals belonged to 19 species, 14 families, 8 orders, 5 classes and 3 phyla. The value of dominance index (DI) was varied from 0.184 (St. C) to 0.333 (St. A) with a mean of 0.235. DI was significantly different among the four regions. Beck-Tsuda's Biotic Index (BI) was varied from 7 (St. D) to 20 (St. C) with a mean of 14. Total ecological score of benthic macroinvertebrate community (TESB) was varied from 12 (St. D) to 38 (St. B) with a mean of 26.3. Average ecological score of benthic macroinvertebrate community (AESB) was varied from 1.714 (St. D) to 1.900 (St. B) with a mean of 1.821. Benthic macroinvertebrate index (BMI) ) was varied from 22.354 (St. A) to 26.474 (St. D) with a mean of 39.756. Shannon-Weaver index (H´) for mammals at the upper regions (St. A and St. B) was higher than those of low regions (St. C and St. D). Berger-Parker’s index (BPI) was varied from 0.218 (St.. C) to 0.346 (St. A). Richness (R1) was different from each other and R2 was not shown significant differences (p < 0.05). Evenness indices (E1-E5) for four stations were different from each other, however there were not shown significant differences (p < 0.05).

Kampung Baru is an area on Bintan Island which is located in Sebong Lagoi Village, Teluk Sebong District, Bintan Regency, Riau Islands Province. This study aimed at determine the structure of the macrozoobenthos community, the condition of the physico-chemical parameters of the waters and the relationship between macrozoobenthos and water quality. This research was conducted using a survey method. Sampling site points of this study using random sampling method with 30 sampling site points at high and low tide. The parameters measured are physical, chemical and biological parameters of the water. The results showed that there were 18 species of macrozoobenthos consisting of 4 classes of macrozoobenthos and 3 phylum at 30 sampling site points, namely mollusca, annelida, and arthhopoda phylum. Based on the ecological index value, it is known that the macrozoobenthos species in Kampung Baru waters are still classified as low with disproportionate conditions. The values ​​of diversity index (low), uniformity index (high) and dominance index (low). Water quality of Kampung Baru waters at high tide still meet quality standards of Kepmen-LH No. 51 of 2004, but at low tide the values ​​of temperature, DO, and salinity parameters did not meet quality standards. The relationship between macrozoobenthos parameters and water quality using PCA analysis where density parameters have a relationship with two parameters, namely temperature and pH.

Pandanduri Dam waters has an essential function for the community made the activities of the surrounding community inseparable from the Pandanduri Dam that made potentially quality change of the Pandanduri Dam waters. Good water quality is an important requirement for humans that made water quality research is essential to be done. Human activities will affect environmental factors such as biological parameters, especially phytoplankton, which are indicators of water quality. The aim of this study was to analyzed water quality of Pandanduri Dam through study of phytoplankton community and diversity. Sample sites were determined based on haphazard sampling method and phytoplankton data were analyzed based on the shannon-weiner diversity index. The results showed that the phytoplankton community identified in Pandanduri Dam consisted of 5 classes, 13 orders, and 31 species with  species diversity index of 2,659. Based on fitoplankton diversity index value the water of  Pandanduri Dam was in lightly polluted category. It is suggested to more detailed studies should be undertaken especially on species that produce toxins over a longer time scale.

Aquatic insects have been used to evaluate the water quality of Bach Ma area in Thua Thien Hue province through the BMWP scoring system for Vietnam and ASPT indices. The study was carried out between March and December of 2010. As a result, 27 families of aquatic insects belonging to 3 orders (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera) were recognised. Among these, 18 families belong to the list of the BMWP Viet scoring system. The data analysis shows that the BMWPViet scores are relatively high, the biotic indices (ASPT) range from 7.10 to 8.71. Aquatic insects have been used as biotic indices to classify the water quality as fairly clean (Oligosaprobe) or very clean. This evaluation corresponds to the water quality assessed by phisio-chemical methods. The disaster that hit Palu City recently caused changes in the quality of water consumed by the community. To find out whether it is feasible or not, a method is needed to detect a water quality system that is easy to apply at an economical price so that people can know for sure the quality of the water they use for their daily needs. Therefore, a tool is designed to determine the quality of water, which samples are taken around the coast of Tondo by using the Fuzzy Logic method. This design was built using the Arduino module by combining four sensors, namely a pH sensor, a TDS sensor, a Turbidity sensor, and a temperature sensor. Water quality in this study was divided into three groups, namely drinking water (UM), water for washing (UC), and water not suitable for use (TL). While the water quality benchmarks are known from the incorporation of existing sensor readings, so that the value of water quality measured in the study is in the unsuitable category with a fuzzy value of 100 in sample 1, and to use washing with a fuzzy value of 45.68 in sample 2, and 26.4 in sample 3.

Macroinvertebrate communities are one of the most used groups in assessments of water quality, since they respond directly to the level of contamination of aquatic ecosystems. The main objective of this study was the assessment of the water quality of the Sinos River basin (Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil) through biotic indices based on the macroinvertebrate community ("Family Biotic Index - FBI", and "Biological Monitoring Working Party Score System - BMWP"). Three lower order streams (2nd order) were selected in each one of three main regions of the basin. In each stream, the samplings were performed in three reaches (upper, middle, and lower), totalling 27 reaches. Two samplings were carried in each reach over one year (winter and summer). A total of 6,847 macroinvertebrates distributed among 54 families were sampled. The streams from the upper region were of better water quality than the lower region. The water quality did not change between the upper, middle and lower reaches of the streams. However, the upper reaches of the streams were of better water quality in all the regions of the basin. The water quality of the streams did not vary between the summer and the winter. This result demonstrated that water quality may be analysed in both studied seasons (summer and winter) using biotic indices. The analysis of the results allows us to conclude that the biotic indices used reflected the changes related to the water quality along the longitudinal gradient of the basin. Thus, aquatic macroinvertebrates were important bioindicators of the water and environmental quality of the streams of the Sinos River basin.

Pencemaran air adalah masuknya atau dimasukkannya suatu zat, energi kedalam air oleh kegiatan manusia sehingga kualitas air dapat menurun sampai tingkat tertentu yang mengakibatkan air tidak dapat berfungsi sesuai dengan peruntukannya. Waduk Jatibarang merupakan bendungan yang menampung beberapa aliran sungai yang kemudian menjadi sarana dan prasarana akuatik dan mendukung kegiatan pariwisata yang ada. Masuknya air dari beberapa sungai ke dalam waduk dapat membawa bahan pencemar sehingga dapat mengakibatkan perairan waduk menjadi tercemar. Salah satu indikator penting dalam penentuan kualitas air adalah dengan melihat tingkat saprobitas di perairan. Berdasarkan hal tersebut maka perlu dikaji lebih lanjut mengenai kondisi kualitas perairan Waduk Jatibarang ditinjau dari aspek saprobitas. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui tingkat saprobitas perairan Waduk Jatibarang. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Mei – Juni 2017. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi kasus dengan analisis deskriptif dan analisis korelasi, dengan mengukur parameter pendukung yaitu parameter fisika, kimia, indeks biologi, dan indeks saprobitas. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa nilai kelimpahan fitoplankton berkisar antara 236-865 ind/l, indeks keanekaragaman berkisar antara 1.02-1.77 indeks keseragaman berkisar antara 0.58-0.85 dan indeks dominasi berkisar antara 0.14-0.96. Indeks Kualitas Air (IKA) yang didapatkan berkisar antara 51.74-55.06 sehingga kualitas perairan dalam kategori sedang. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa nilai indeks saprobitas berkisar antara 0.60-2.75 dan nilai indeks tropik saprobik berkisar antara 2.02-4.06 sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa perairan Waduk Jatibarang termasuk dalam golongan β-mesosaprobik/ oligosaprobik atau tercemar ringan. Water pollution is entry or inclusion by a substance, energy into water by the human activities so that quality of the water can decrease till the certain level which it can cause the water can be not function in accordance with the designation. Jatibarang Reservoir is a dam that holds several streams from the river which then becomes the aquatic facilities and infrastructure and can support the tourism activities. The entry of the water to reservoir, can carry pollutants it can cause the reservoir be polluted. One of the important indicators to determine the quality of the water is the saprobic level in the water. Based on the matter, it is necessary to study further about condition of the water quality of Jatibarang Reservoir in terms of saprobic aspect. The objective of the research has to know the level of waters saprobic in Jatibarang Reservoir. The research was conducted in May – June 2017. This research used case study method with descriptive analysis and correlation analysis, with measuring the supporting parameters like physics, chemistry, biology index, and saprobic index. The result of the observation showed that the phytoplankton abundance value ranged between 236-865 ind/l, index of diversity ranged between 1.02-1.77, uniformity index ranged between 0.49-0.85, and the index of dominance range between 0.14-0.96.  Water Quality Index (WQI) obtained ranged between 51.74-55.06 so that quality of the water in medium category . The result of the research, found that the Saprobic Index value ranged between 0.60-2.75, and the Tropic Saprobic Index value ranged between 2.02-4.06, so it can be concluded that the Jatibarang Reservoir belongs to the class of β-mesosaprobic/oligosaprobic or light polluted.
