This paper presents the results of both analytical and experimental study on the repair effectiveness of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) sheets for RC beams with different levels of pre-repair damage severity. It highlights the effect of fixing CFRP sheets to damaged beams on the load capacity, mid-span deflection, the steel strain and the CFRP strain and failure modes. The analytical study was based on a Finite Element (FE) model of the beam using brick and embedded bar elements for the concrete and steel reinforcement, respectively. The CFRP sheets and adhesive interface were modelled using shell elements with orthotropic material properties and incorporating the ultimate adhesive strain obtained experimentally to define the limit for debonding. In order to validate the analytical model, the FE results were compared with the results obtained from laboratory tests conducted on a control beam and three other beams subjected to different damage loads prior to repair with CFRP sheets. The results obtained showed good agreement, and this study verified the adopted approach of modelling the adhesive interface between the RC beam and the CFRP sheets using the ultimate adhesive strains obtained experimentally.

Prefabricated concrete Deck Bulb-Tee (DBT) bridge girder system requires precast girder flanges to be connected and formed bridge deck at site. In this study, a new bridge deck slab flange to flange connection system for precast DBT girders has been investigated. Two types of moment transferring connection and another two types of intermittent bolted connection were developed. A total of four full-scale bridge DBTgirders for the developed connection details were fabricated and then tested to collapse under simulated wheel load. This thesis reports on an experimental study on static behavior and ultimate load carrying capacity of bridge Deck Bulb-Tee girders jointed with proposed connection detail and technology. structural behavior, including stress and strain, crack formation and propagation, deflection, failure mode, and ultimate load capacity, has been identified. Experimental results are compared to those obtained using the Yield-Line Theory and the available Punching Shear Equations.

The paper presents an experimental research on anchoring devices developed for the pre-tensioning of fiber reinforced polymer tendons in the stress range between 40 and 70% of tensile strength. The technique of testing, the criteria of assessing the load capacity and the influence of preloading applied on the anchor wedges on the initial tendons slippage are described. The optimal technical configurations of the anchoring device have been obtained, including parameters regarding the necessary prior anchorage of the tendon ends based on the strength properties of the tendon bar and the requirements to avoid slippage during the tensile tests.

Much attention has been paid to municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration power generation and biomass energy. The co-firing power generation tests of MSW and biomass were performed in a MSW incineration power plant in North China. Experimental results showed that the running efficiency of generator unit had achieved the optimum state when the blended ratio was 14% (w%); the concentration of fly ash decreased greatly, and the concentration of SO2 and NOX increased slightly. These contents can be referenced in the running of MSW incineration power plant and the using of biomass energy later.

This paper summarizes the results and discussion of experimental studies on corroded, reinforced concrete 4 point beam test specimens (120 mm x 200 mm x 1700 mm) repaired by external bonding of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite laminates to the tensile face of the beam. The primary parameters investigated in this experimental study were distortion, stress distribution, and ultimate load capacity of the corroded reinforced concrete beams. The results indicate that the load capacity and the rigidity of repaired corroded beams by CFRP were significantly higher than the un-repaired, corroded beams. Beams with a low degree of corrosion damage, repaired by CFRP, were still able to demonstrate good mechanical properties after a short-term fatigue loading.
