Abstract To investigate the effect of supplementation of dried biofloc produced by freeze-drying method on water quality and growth performance of red hybrid tilapia, two experimental diets (T0 treatment: 0 % biofloc; and T1 treatment: 4 % freeze-dried biofloc) were examined during 57 days of feeding trial. Diet T0 resulted in higher feed intake than T1 treatment (P < 0.05), while no significant differences were found between the two treatments in terms of weight gain, SGR, and FCR (P > 0.05). For water quality parameters, values of temperature, EC, TDS, ammonia and nitrate were significantly higher for T1 treatment (P < 0.05). While dissolved oxygen level was significantly lower for T1 treatment compared to T0 treatment (P < 0.05). Moreover, no significant differences were found for pH and salinity (P > 0.05). However, the two treatments showed water quality parameters levels within the range of standard levels of water quality for tilapia culture. In addition, proximate composition of experimental diets showed significantly higher lipid content for T0 treatment than T1 treatment (P < 0.05). While no significant differences were found between means of treatments for organic matter, protein, fiber, ash and energy contents (P > 0.05). Based on these results, a 4 % supplementation of freeze-dried biofloc can be successively included in formulated diets for red hybrid tilapia without any effects on growth in terms of weight gain, specific growth rate, feed conversion ratio and survival, and can result in acceptable water quality levels for red hybrid tilapia.

Optimum feeding schedule is one of the main things for the proper growth of fish and other animals. A study was conducted to optimize the effects of different feeding frequencies on growth performance and production of Rui (Labeo rohita) under pond cage culture system in Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Labeo rohita with an average weight of 302.23±4.07g (mean ± SD) were randomly stocked in 9 cages at 30 fish/cage in all the treatment. Fish were fed (4% of body weight) a commercial floating feed with three different feeding schedules: feeding of fish thrice daily in T1treatment; twice in T2 treatment and once in T3 treatment. Water quality parameters were measured during the study period. The physico-chemical parameters of pond water were within suitable ranges for fish culture in cages. The obtained values of the water quality parameters were temperature 28.26 to 28.46°C, pH 6.91 to 6.94, DO 5.04 to 5.33 mg/l, CO2 2.95 to 3.02 mg/L. The mean final weight gain was significantly highest in T1 (345.05 g) a followed by T2 (324.66 g) and T3 (257.82 g). The Specific growth rate (SGR) value were significantly higher in T1 treatment (0.91% bwd-1; Body weight per day) than T2 (0.87% bwd-1) and T3 treatment (0.73% bwd-1). The feed conversion ratio (FCR) value was significantly lower in T1 fish group (2.72) than other two T2 (2.84) and T3 (3.44) treatments. The fish productions were 18.13, 17.55 and 15.67 kg/cage/cycle in T1, T2 and T3 respectively. The highest net profit was found (Bangladeshi Taka, BDT 1445.38) in T1 compared to T2 (BDT 1329.24) and T3 treatment (BDT 937.99). The cost benefit ratio (CBR) was significantly higher in T1 (0.57) than T2 (0.53) and T3 (0.37). The feeding schedule three times in a day was most suitable than other two schedules.

Growth performance and survival of Tor putitora fry under different stocking densities were evaluated fry rearing system. The experimental period was 10 weeks from 31 December to 10 March 2019. The experiment was carried out in nine earthen ponds of 0.04 ha each under three treatments with three replications.  Thirty days old fry were stocked at the rate of 1.0X105/ha was designated as treatment- 1 (T1), 1.5X105/ha` as treatment- 2 (T2) and 2.0X105/ha as treatment- 3 (T3), respectively. Fry were fed with commercially available nursery feed containing 32% crude protein. It was observed that, lower stocking density showed highest daily weight gain in T1 (growth 0.066 ± 0.006 g/day) compared with higher stocking density in T2 (growth 0.044 ± 0.004 g/day) and T3 (growth 0.024 ± 0.003 g/day), respectively. It is also noticed that, the lower stocking showed the highest survival rate (79.66 ± 4.34 %) than the other two treatments (66.97±3.67 and 54.67± 3.12 %). The values of different water quality parameters were within the optimum ranges for the rearing of carp fry. Water quality parameters did not show significant variations in the experimental ponds under different stocking densities. Among these three stocking densities lower stocking density (T1) showed the best result compare with the other two higher stocking densities.

This trial aimed to evaluate effects of stocking densities of 1-5 fish/m2 on growth performance, survival rate and economic efficiency of Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer) in earthen ponds. Fish with an initial length of 90.7 ± 0.1 mm and weight of 20.8 ± 0.1 g/fish and ponds with 600 m2 each and 1.5 m depth were used for this study. Experiment was designed with three treatments, including different stocking densities of 1, 3 and 5 fish/m2. The fish was fed with pellete feed containing 43 - 44% crude protein. Water quality parameters including temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, salinity, transparency and ammonia concentration were measured once a week. Fish were sampled every 30-day intervals for length and weight measurement then for their growth estimation. Costs were recorded for economic efficiency estimation. Results showed that the water quality parameters were in suitable ranges for growth and development of Asian seabass. The final average length and weight of density 1 fish/m2 was significantly higher than those at 3 and 5 fish/m2 (P < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference on the fish growth in terms of daily length and weight gain, as well as survival rate and feed conversion ratio between different stocking densities. Asian seabass culture at 3 and 5 fish/m2 resulted in a higher profit compared to at 1 fish/m2. The highest economic efficiency in terms of area pond was showed at 5 fish/m2 treatment.

This study aims to determine how the growth and survival of catfish seeds that are fed differently. The design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) using 4 treatments and 3 replications so that the number of expe- riments amounted to 12. The treatment given was treatment A (administration of daphnia magna), treatment B (administration of tubifex), treatment C (mosquito larvae), and treatment D (pellets). The parameters measured in this study are weight growth, feed conversion ratio (FCR), survival rate (SR), and water quality parameters (acidity (pH), temperature, and dissolved oxygen (DO). Research location was carried out at the UPT. Fish Seed Market and Fish Seed Center Denpasar City. The highest weight growth was in treatment B was 0.89 g, then in treatment D was 0.84 g, treatment C was 0.42 g, and treatment A was 0.37 g. The best FCR in treatment B was 1.90 and treatment D was 1.98. Survival rate in this study ranged from 70-90%. Water quality parameters in this study are still in good conditions for growth and survival of catfish seeds. The temperature ranges from 24.97-25.10oC, DO ranges from 4.63-8.02 ppm, and pH ranges from 8.97-9.23.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan berbagai bahan untuk fermentasi dedak (ampas tahu, ampas kelapa dan ragi) terhadap laju pertumbuhan dan kelangsungan hidup ikan patin (Pangasius pangasius). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 10 Mei – 09 Juni 2014  yang berlokasi di Laboratorium Hatchery dan Teknologi Budidaya Perairan Program Studi Budidaya Perairan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan dedak yang difermentasi dengan bahan yang berbeda (ampas tahu, ampas kelapa dan ragi) sebagai pakan tambahan berpengaruh terhadap pertumbuhan ikan patin. Pertambahan panjang dan bobot tertinggi pada perlakuan B yaitu pemberian pakan pelet dan pakan dedak halus yang difermentasikan dengan ampas tahu dengan nilai rata-rata 0,525 cm dan 0,657 gram. Kelangsungan hidup 100% dan konversi pakan yang terbaik terdapat pada perlakuan B yaitu sebesar 4,333 gram. Parameter kualitas air berada pada kisaran yang baik untuk pertumbuhan benih ikan patin. Analisis statistik dengan uji F di peroleh bahwa penggunaan dedak yang difermentasikan dengan bahan yang berbeda sebagai pakan tambahan tidak berbeda nyata terhadap kelangsungan hidup benih ikan patin (Pangasius pangasius) dengan nilai Fhitung ( 0 ) <  Ftabel (7,59) dan berbeda sangat nyata terhadap pertambahan panjang tubuh benih ikan patin (Pangasius pangasius) dengan nilai Fhitung (147) > Ftabel (7,59) serta berbeda sangat nyata terhadap pertambahan bobot dengan nilai Fhitung (56,500) > Ftabel (7,59)  Selanjutnya berbeda sangat nyata terhadap konversi pakan dengan nilai Fhitung (15,081)  > Ftabel (5,99).The aims of this study is to determine the effect of the application of various materials for fermented bran (pulp, coconut pulp and yeast) on the growth rate and survival of catfish (Pangasius pangasius). This study was conducted on 10 May, 10 to June, 9 2014 at the Laboratory of Hatchery and Aquaculture Technology, Malikussaleh University. The results showed that the application of the fermented bran with different materials (pulp, coconut pulp and yeast) as an additional food was affected the growth of catfish. The highest length and weight was found in the treatment numbers B that was applying  pellets and feed fine bran fermented with the pulp out with the average value  0.525 cm and 0.657 grams. Meanwhile, 100% survival and the best feed conversion contained found in the treatment numbers B which was equal to 4.333 grams. Water quality parameters were within the optimum range for the catfish growth. Statistical analysis by F test  resulted  that the application  of fermented bran with different materials as an feed supplement was not significantly different to the survival of the catfish (Pangasius pangasius) fingerling with the value of F (0) <F table (7.59). The Highly significant to the length of the catfish (Pangasius pangasius) fingerling also found with the value of F (147)> F (7,59) as well as the highly significant to the weight with the value of F (56,500)> F (7,59). Furthermore, highly significant on feed conversion between treatments with the value of F (15,081)> F (5.99).

This study was aimed to evaluate the efficiency of three protein level feeds on the fingerlings production of riverine endangered Notopteruschitala (Hamilton, 1882) for a period of two months in ponds. Chital fry (Initial wt, 5.6±0.19 g) were randomly stocked at the rate of 7410 per hector. Feeding trials were conducted under 3 treatments (T1: feed contains 35% protein, T2: feed contains 30% protein, T3: feed contains 25 % protein) each with 3 replications. No significant (P<0.05) difference was observed for all the water quality parameters among the treatments. A suitable range of water quality parameters (temperature, water transparency (cm)), dissolved oxygen (mg/l), pH, alkalinity (mg/l), ammonia) were recorded with the environment of experimental ponds. The treatment had significant effects on weight gain, ADG, SGR among treatments. Highest weight gain (19.31 ± 0.23 g) was observed in T1, lowest (13.96 ± 0.15 g) in T3. SGR (1.65±0.02) and ADG (0.18±0.005) were significantly (P<0.05) highest in T1 followed by T2 and T3. The N chitala exhibited highest survival rate (96.66%) in T1 than T2 followed by T3 (88.89 %). The best FCR value (3.02±0.09) was recorded in treatment T1 with 35% protein contain feed. Relatively, highest benefits (138690±175.36 BDT/ha) were found from treatment T1 compared to other treatments. Similarly, the cost benefit ratio was highest in T1 (1:1.23) and lowest in T3 (0.95). Findings indicated that treatment T1 (35% protein containing feed) was found best in terms of growth, production and economics of N. chital for fingerling production in ponds. Res. Agric., Livest. Growth performance, feed utilization, survival and body indices of African catfish Clarias gariepinus juveniles fed diets containing maggot meal as replacement of fish meal was evaluated for 42 days. Sixty fingerlings of Clarias gariepinus, average weight of 10 g were randomly distributed into six circular tanks at the rate of 10 fish per tank. There were two treatments, DT1(maggot meal-based diet) and DT2 (fish meal-based diet). The fish were fed twice daily. Water quality parameters were monitored on a weekly basis throughout the experimental period. Growth, nutrient utilization and body indices parameters were evaluated at the end of the experiment. Crude protein, crude lipid and ash were higher in the fish meal-based diet (34.65%, 7.33% and 18.03% in DT2 as against 28.70%, 7.20% and 11.0.1% in DT1 respectively), while crude fibre was higher in maggot meal-based diet. The selected water quality parameters: temperature, dissolved oxygen, ammonia and pH were slightly lower in maggot meal based treatment, but none of them was differently significant. Mean weight gain, specific growth rate, protein intake, protein efficiency ratio, lipid intake and lipid efficiency ratio (17.25±0.70 g, 2.39±0.06 %/day, 95.50±1.27 g, 1.81±0.06, 23.96±0.32 g and 7.20±0.24 respectively) were all significantly higher in DT2. The feed conversion ratio was higher significantly in DT1. Survival, hepatosomatic index and condition factor were similar between the two treatments. Though the aforementioned body indices indicated that the total replacement of fish meal with maggot meal is not harmful to the fish, a partial replacement may be better for optimum output

Fish growth, yield and economics of polyculture were evaluated for six months from April to September, 2011 in ponds of Kushtia district, Bangladesh under 4 treatments of feeds and weeds as T0: rice bran, wheat bran and mustard oilcake; T1: Azolla; T2: Grass and T3: Banana leaf. Each treatment had 3 replications. Mean initial stocking weight of fishes like Hypophthalmichthyes molitrix, Catla catla, Labeo rohita, Cirrhinus mrigala, Cyprinus carpio, Ctenopharyngodon idella and Barbonymus gonionotus was 62, 64, 57, 54, 63, 65 and 25 g, respectively. Stocking density (11,115 fishes/ha), liming (250 kg/ha), basal fertilization (Cowdung, 1,500 kg/ha; urea, 60 kg/ha; and Triple Super Phosphate, TSP 60 kg/ha) and periodic fertilization (Urea, 2.5 kg/ha/day; and TSP, 2.5 kg/ha/day) were same for all the treatments. Water quality parameters (water temperature, transparency, dissolved oxygen, pH, alkalinity and free carbon dioxide) were monitored fortnightly and fish growth parameters (weight gain and Specific Growth Rate, SGR) were monitored monthly. Treatments did not vary significantly for the mean water quality parameters. Treatment T0 varied more significantly (P<0.05) for the mean final weight,  weight gain, SGR, survival rate and yield for almost all the species except C. idella and B. gonionotus. Significantly highest CBR was recorded with treatment T1.

A 62-d trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of different C/N ratios on water quality, growth performance, digestives activity, and antioxidant indicators of tilapia fingerlings in BFT systems. Three biofloc treatments (added molasses) with a C/N ratio of 14 (BFT14), 17 (BFT17), and 20 (BFT20) were tested against control in clear-water, each treatment in triplicate. Four hundred twenty tilapias (24.2±0.1 g) were distributed on 12 tanks of 350 L. The dynamics of water quality parameters showed a shift from a predominantly autotrophic to a predominantly heterotrophic biofloc with an increase in the C/N ratio from 14 to 20. The growth and Feed conversion of tilapia were not significantly different between the control, BFT14, and BFT17 groups. A low weight gain and high FCR were found in the BFT20 treatment (0.61±0.07 and 1.11±0.12 g/d) compared to the control (0.84±0.05 and 1±0.07 g/d). Activities of proteases and alpha-amylase in the liver and digestive tract were similar in all treatments. As a measure of stress, CAT and SOD activities did not differ significantly among the four groups. Overall, it was possible to reduce the C/N ratio to14, without negatively affecting the biofloc development, growth performance, and physiological parameters of juvenile tilapia.
