A defining feature of new methods of documenting languages is the advance in technologies for recording, transcribing, annotating, managing, and analyzing language records, which then facilitates delivering that documentation for use in various forms, in particular for language revitalization efforts. It is the affordances offered by these new methods that have expanded the possibilities of language documentation to create richer records and enabling collaboration over distance, both between linguists and between linguists and speakers. Digital materials can serve multiple purposes, often unforeseen by the original recorder. Analog recordings had limited availability in single locations and access to timepoints within a recording was labor intensive and slow. Digital media on the other hand can be instantly accessed in many locations, and permits citation to the level of a word or even a phoneme and thus offers verification of analyses with reference to the primary recordings.

Abstract: In today's technological developments, digital images are a medium that is often used to store a person's identity. Digital images are currently widely used for data security needs. On the other hand, images can also be used as a medium for tapping data. Today's digital media provide many things in manipulating and changing the information contained in these images. In this study, the authors conducted a study to examine similarities in digital images so that it could be seen whether the information was authentic or not. detecting image similarities can help find out information whether the image is the same as the original object or not. The method used in this research is the Eigen Face method. The face eigen method is a method that can be used to check and match the similarities of an image. With the eigenface value, Figure 1, Figure 2, Figure 3, it can be determined that with other eigenface values can be determined based on the eigenface matrix values obtained from each image. Based on the values obtained from Figures 1, 2, and 3, it can be concluded that the eigenface method is able to present facial similarities with a presentation value of 80%.

In recent years, many local telecommunication firms are selling their interactive digital media (IDM) services such as broadband and Pay Television in the form of a bundle to their customers. On the other hand, many IDM firms (e.g. Apple iTunes) have chosen to sell their IDM services to customers in an unbundled manner. This chapter studies the effect of bundling and unbundling of any type of information goods which can be digitized. We will discuss the four factors which encourage IDM firms to choose either bundling or unbundling strategy in their marketing of digital goods. The four factors are customer, environmental, firm, and product. This chapter concludes by emphasising that bundling or unbundling might not be necessarily good or bad. The choice boils down to the market segment – the value that customers perceive from the products. It is also important to take into account the overall marketing strategy that the firm is embarking on and to also consider the market situation at the point in time.

Violence has been a part of daily life in both traditional and digital media. Consequently, neither the existence of violence in the media nor the debates on this subject are new. On the other hand, the presentation of violence in fictional content should be viewed from a different point of view, especially in the context of aesthetization. Within this context, in this chapter, the serial of Penny Dreadful is analyzed. As analyzing method, Tahsin Yücel's model of the “space/time coordinates of narrative” is used. And the subject of “aestheticization of violence” is analyzed through a serial with the elements of person, space, and time. Thus, the role of not only physical beauty but also different components in the aestheticization of violence is examined.

Chapter 8 discusses the impact of digital media on collective memory. The chapter examines both the positive and negative impact of digital and social media. On the one hand, the analysis notes how digital media provided the channels for memory mobilization and the archives for memory transmission. On the other hand, the analysis examines the problematics of memory balkanization. It explicates how political forces have shaped the development of digital and social media in Hong Kong and how competing representations of the Tiananmen Incident and commemoration activities are articulated and reinforced within distinctive memory silos.

Msplit and MP estimations are new methods of assessing the parameters of functional models of geodetic observations. The first method assumes that each observation can be assigned to either of some functional models which differ from each other in competitive parameters. While the latter method is based on the assumption that distributions of measurement errors differ from the normal one in asymmetry and excess kurtosis. The theoretical properties indicate that both methods are also robust against outliers. However, the sense of robustness is a little wider than in the case of M-estimation. In Msplit estimation the outliers are treated as variables with competitive functional models (in relation to models of “good” observations) while robustness of MP estimation depends on the mentioned parameters of probabilistic models of observations. This paper shows that on one hand robustness is an interesting property of the methods in question, but on the other hand it broadens possible application of such estimation methods.

To be a journalist in Venezuela is very dangerous. In the past decade, there has been an increase of attacks against media and their personnel. On the one hand, attacks against journalists include harassment (physical, digital, legal), illegal detentions, kidnapping, and assassination. On the other hand, digital media have experienced blockages (DNS), internet shutdowns and slow-downs, failures in the connection, and restrictions to access internet-based platforms and content. Since 2014, the situation is deteriorating and limitations to exercise the right to freedom of expression have increased. However, this issue remains understudied; hence, this chapter considers primary and secondary data to analyze the types of limitations experienced by Venezuelan digital journalists from 2014 to 2018, explains the effects of ambiguous regulations and the use of problematic interpretations, and describes the inadequacies of national policies to promote freedom of the press.

The authors of this paper deal with the pedagogical and philological significance of Sava’s Spelling Book printed in Russia (Moscow) in 1692, in the Russian-Slavonic language. This spelling book is about 100 years younger than the First Serbian Spelling Book (The Spelling Book of Sava Inok of the monastery Dečani). This spelling book of the Russian recension reached all the way to the Serbian lands, being, on one hand, the precedent, and on the other hand, the follower to the books that are to appear in Serbia and its new literary language. The authors of this paper explain in a detailed way the method of letter teaching by which each letter (Slavonic, Greek, and Latin) is being assigned a corresponding picture. This points out to the pedagogical approach to the acquisition of new knowledge (the basics of reading and writing) which uses pictures of animals and plants in order to facilitate the process of letter learning. In his lecture, KarionIstomin, the author of the spelling book, suggested totally new teaching methods i.e. the new methods. Namely, Sava’s Spelling book is the precursor of contemporary spelling books, since all of them use the connection between letters and pictures as the basis of their teaching method.

In this paper, the 3IM+1CM theorem with a general difference polynomial L z , f will be established by using new methods and technologies. Note that the obtained result is valid when the sum of the coefficient of L z , f is equal to zero or not. Thus, the theorem with the condition that the sum of the coefficient of L z , f is equal to zero is also a good extension for recent results. However, it is new for the case that the sum of the coefficient of L z , f is not equal to zero. In fact, the main difficulty of proof is also from this case, which causes the traditional theorem invalid. On the other hand, it is more interesting that the nonconstant finite-order meromorphic function f can be exactly expressed for the case f ≡ − L z , f . Furthermore, the sharpness of our conditions and the existence of the main result are illustrated by examples. In particular, the main result is also valid for the discrete analytic functions.

In terms of digital media usage, immersion refers to user involvement in and focus on a single activity. However, the commonality of multi-tasking raises questions regarding whether one could enjoy immersion when using more than one media at the same time. Self-report questionnaires and eye trackers were used to measure the immersive experiences while playing video games and watching a television program at the same time. While we found evidence of immersion across the two activities while multitasking, some immersion dimensions were significantly weaker. However, we also noted that immersion experiences from multiple media might be cumulative. A possible explanation for our results is that the act of switching between two media compensated for any down time, users could abandon a less attractive medium and switch to the other, resulting in an impression of continuous immersion in the overall multitasking experience. On the other hand, keeping active awareness of other media beyond the current focus might be a primary cause of immersion degradation.

It is well known that reading and writing techniques are learned throughout childhood and that they have a great significance for further development of each individual and the society in general. However, in this day and age children make their first contact with language and script using the widespread digital media. Later in life this will have a negative effect on their ability to recognize letters and start reading.Nowadays Croatian schools are experiencing intensive informatization of educational process. It is expected that modern technology will be used daily, for several hours. On the other hand, we have been witnessing everyday (mis)use of technology by the young people in their free time. The questions then arise: how much time will the students be exposed to the influence of the media on a daily basis, either for educational purposes or for fun? What consequences will this exposure have for them? Numerous researches have shown that overexposure to technology affects cognitive abilities of young people. It is true that young people possess technological skills which they use much more efficiently than the older population, but at the same time they have difficulties assessing or evaluating the sources of information. One of the possible problems is their lack of knowledge about how information is organized or the lack of previous knowledge of a certain field. As far as texts are concerned, most young people will choose printed ones because they think that learning through electronic media is tiresome. The (in)efficiency of learning from e-books is related to excessive use of hyperlinks and other links that divert attention. At the beginning of the school year 2019/2020, Croatian schools will introduce curricular reform which will be accompanied by an emphasized use of tablets and digital content. As educational experts, we advocate optimum implementation of media as technology that makes communication easier, but does not condition it. Communication in educational institutions should be mostly oriented towards quality, content of information and critical approach and to a lesser extent towards the possibilities offered by the media as a means of communication. As to the use of multimedia technology for educational purposes, the e-book and e-reading will be related to specific tasks, research, projects and tasks in popular science area. On the other hand, printed books will still be read in free time, for pleasure and for literary needs. The above are the results of our research done on reading e-books in elementary schools in the Republic of Croatia. With this research we have shown that the so-called Google generation still does not like reading online, including the assigned reading at schools. As it turns out, the assumption that the young people who have been surrounded by the new technology since their birth, will likewise be more interested in reading texts in the new media, is in fact wrong, despite favourable technical conditions. They use the internet and the technology for communication and for fun, but rarely for studying. Therefore, a pilot survey among eighth grade students is about to be conducted. It will show their attitudes and reflections about using more media at the same time (multitasking) and how it affects their studying. It will also show whether the students’ attitude toward e-books and reading has changed.
