This study aims to examine the relationship between representament and object iconicity in Wardah's cosmetic commercial television commercials, which include shampoo, BB cream, mascara, lipstick, and social activities. Wardah cosmetic commercial television commercials attempt to construct consumers using the concept of “Beauty from the heart”. Meanwhile, the beauty of cosmetic users is always visible physically. Thus, it cannot be proven to be real beauty from the heart when someone uses cosmetics. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method to analyze data in the form of verbal and nonverbal text. The researcher uses Charles Sander Peirce's semiotic theory which divides the signs according to the relationship between the representament (sign) and its object (marker) into icons, indexes, and symbols. The results of this study indicate that beauty can be classified into two categories, namely physical beauty and psychological beauty. Physical beauty relates to the body and the head. There are four parts of the head which are icons of beauty for a young woman: 1) the hair, 2) the facial skin, 3) the eyes, and 4) the lips. Meanwhile, psychological beauty is a beauty from the heart that is manifested in the form of attitudes during social activities. In addition, young women as users of Wardah cosmetics are represented by the use of youthful vocabulary and language typical of the millennial generation.

The documentary New Domestic Products vividly tells the century-old story of Chinese manufacturing, objectively narrating physical properties’ quality. By focusing on the aesthetics of objects, the story narration of the three domestic product movements manufactured in a century and the difference in transformation, the character pedigree and symbol communication of Chinese goods have been unified, reflecting the superb communication skills of empathy. The breakthroughs in the history of China’s century-old manufacturing reforms, the innovation of butterflies, and the spreading effects that directly reach people’s hearts must explore the intrinsic meaning and cultural genes of physical beauty. Through empathy narrative, speaking with facts, paying attention to communication skills, and grasping narrative rules, this is a practical path for Chinese goods to spread symbols in the international market.

Like other societies, women are important figures in Javanese society so that women's figures in Javanese society's thoughts are also described in such a way. There is a desire in the collective imagination of the Javanese community towards women, so that the Javanese people's thoughts about women are very diverse. One of them is the Javanese thought about the physical beauty of women which is idealized through the use of metaphors. This metaphor in Javanese society is an expression of Javanese society to express ideas and dreams through language. This paper aims to find out the metaphorical conceptualization of the physical beauty of women in Javanese. This study uses qualitative methods and conceptual metaphor theory according to Lakoff and Johnson (1980). The results of data analysis show that there is a relationship between the Javanese people and their natural environment in the form of physical and cultural. Physical environment in the form of animals, plants, and other objects around it

This article aims to explore the culture of the Dayak Kanayatn people regarding the rituals and sacredness of hornbills. Retrieval of data using qualitative research with the ethnography method, through interview techniques, observation, documentary studies, and literature studies. The community makes hornbills a sacred symbol. This attitude can be seen when the community carries out Karana traditional rituals as an implementation of local theology and narrates them in dances, carvings, carvings, and traditional clothing attributes. Through rituals, the community believes that the hornbill is a link between heaven (subayatn) and the world that brings people to death (pidara) into eternity. Hornbills have a significant influence on the Kanayatn Dayak indigenous people because they contain noble values. Everything related to hornbills, including their lifestyle, natural seed dispersers, forest guards, physical beauty, has become sacred to the Kanayatn Dayak community. This study concludes that the hornbill is a sacred symbol in local theology and capital of social integration for the Kanayatn Dayak community.AbstrakArtikel ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi budaya masyarakat Dayak Kanayatn tentang ritual dan sakralitas burung Enggang. Pengambilan data menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode ethnografi dan nethnografi, melalui teknik wawancara, observasi, studi dokumenter dan studi pustaka. Masyarakat menjadikan burung Enggang sebagai simbol sakral. Sikap tersebut terlihat ketika masyarakat melaksanakan ritual adat Karana sebagai implementasi teologi lokal, serta menarasikannya dalam tarian, ukiran, pahatan dan atribut pakaian adat. Melalui ritual  masyarakat meyakini bahwa burung Enggang sebagai penghubung  surga (subayatn) dan dunia. Burung Enggang yang membawa orang meninggal (pidara) masuk kekekalan. Burung Enggang memberi pengaruh yang signifikan bagi masyarakat adat Dayak Kanayatn karena mengandung nilai-nilai yang luhur. Segala sesuatu yang berhubungan dengan burung Enggang baik pola hidup,  pemencar biji alami, penjaga hutan, keindahan fisik, menjadi sakral bagi masyarkat Dayak Kanayatn. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa Burung Enggang adalah simbol sakral dalam teologi lokal  dan modal integrasi sosial bagi masyarakat Dayak Kanayatn.

Edwards’s aesthetics grounded in the ongoing work of God communicated in creation, not only lies at the centre of his thought but is increasingly recognized as one of his most original contributions to theology. Edwards’s reflection on God’s beauty emerged in the context of his work as a pastor, which allowed him to frame God’s dynamic presence in dramatic and multi-sensory categories. For Edwards Beauty glimpsed in the form of images formed in the mind reflects a consent of being; the visual beauty of symmetry and proportion is meant to move the heart to consent to the will of God reflected in creation—what Edwards calls respectively secondary and primary beauty. All creatures are types and shadows of spiritual realities; beauty and morality are linked, though only the Holy Spirit allows believers to consent to God’s self-disclosure in creation. Edwards’s neo-platonic framework allowed his reflections on the revivals to affirm physical beauty while subordinating its meaning to the spiritual, enhancing its role as revelation but diminishing its value as an end in itself.

Violence has been a part of daily life in both traditional and digital media. Consequently, neither the existence of violence in the media nor the debates on this subject are new. On the other hand, the presentation of violence in fictional content should be viewed from a different point of view, especially in the context of aesthetization. Within this context, in this chapter, the serial of Penny Dreadful is analyzed. As analyzing method, Tahsin Yücel's model of the “space/time coordinates of narrative” is used. And the subject of “aestheticization of violence” is analyzed through a serial with the elements of person, space, and time. Thus, the role of not only physical beauty but also different components in the aestheticization of violence is examined.

The focus of this paper is that most scholars are not aware of the physical features and importance of women that is depicted on Zulu clan praise names. The clan praise names in themselves code hidden information that would be a story, history, very long which talks about women. The main aim of the study is to alert people about the physical features and importance of women that is depicted on Zulu clan praise names. Research findings indicate that women feel significant when their physical beauty is acknowledged. This study found that females can protect themselves through self-defence if they are trained and can also protect their loved ones. Research findings also showed that women are very important in growing the nation and can protect their families by using their wisdom.

The ratio Phi, equal to approximately 1.618, is an observable phenomenon that Greek mathematician Euclid defined this relationship as a line in two parts, in which the ratio of the longer part to the shorter part is equal to the ratio of the total length over the longer part. The ancient Greeks thought of Phi as a mathematical representation of physical beauty. Although many studies have shown a correlation between Phi and perceived attractiveness, other studies have displayed no/very weak, correlation. The question, “Does the expression of Phi play a significant role in the attractiveness of a face?” was investigated. It was hypothesized that if the features of a face closely fit the proportions of Phi, then survey respondents will give that face a higher attractiveness rating than a face whose features do not. Landmark localization data was calculated for images of 14 different faces. Individual and average facial ratios were calculated for each photograph, and a survey was conducted in which 100 participants were asked to rate the attractiveness of each face on a scale of 1-10. The average attractiveness rating of each face was then compared to the variance/distance of its average facial ratio away from the numerical value of Phi. Based on the analysis of the data, faces with features whose proportions closely fit the ratio of Phi are perceived as more attractive than faces with features that do not. Faces with average facial ratios closer to Phi received higher average attractiveness ratings.
