AbstractBackground and ObjectiveFaba bean is an important crop for achieving nutritional food security, but there is very limited diversity in the cultivated varieties of faba bean. Moreover, genetic diversity is vital for its use in faba bean genetic imporvement.Material and MethodsHere we determined the diversity in the sixty-four genotypes of faba bean of different agro-ecological origins. Plants were grown in randomized block design in three replications. Further, the genotypes were characterized based on the ten morphological traits.ResultsHighly significant differences were determined for all of the studied traits. Whereas, the number of cluster per plant was positively correlated with the pods per plants. Moreover, the trait number of cluster per plant determined the most substantial positive effect on seed yield.ConclusionsOverall, our results indicate a wide range of variability for further selection and improvement of faba bean ideotype.

AbstractTitanium is one of a plant biostimulators. It stimulates life processes, growth and development, as well as affects physiological and biochemical pathways, often increasing biomass production and enhancing yield. An open field experiment was conducted in the years 2011-2013 in Polanowice, Poland to investigate the effects of titanium foliar fertilization on the growth of timothy grass (Phleum pratenseL.). This single-factor, randomized block design study was performed in four replicates on research plots with the area of 10 m2each. The substrate was black loess soil (chernozem) typical for top class farmland. Titanium fertilizationvialeaf spray was performed with a water solution of Tytanit® at three doses of 0.2, 0.4, and 0.8 dm3· ha−1. Foliar fertilization with the highest dose of Tytanit® significantly increased seed yield, thousand grain weight and germination capacity. Moreover, the middle dose of Tytanit® (0.4 dm3· ha−1) was enough to observe a positive effect on the sample.

ABSTRACT Peppers and bell peppers (Capsicum spp.) are vegetables that have wide genetic variability, as well as a wide range of applications. Studies on genetic diversity help to understand the existing variability and the conservation of genetic resources, allowing breeders to select superior genotypes that meet the needs of breeding programmes. This study aimed to evaluate the genetic diversity among 15 Capsicum genotypes based on morpho-agronomic descriptors and through the Ward-MLM (Modified Location Model) procedure, as well as to indicate the most promising genotypes for breeding programmes. The research was conducted in an experimental area using a randomized block design, with three replications, using nine qualitative descriptors and ten quantitative descriptors. Analysis of variance was performed, and means were subsequently grouped by Scott-Knott’s method. There was a significant difference between genotypes for all traits evaluated, making it possible to select promising genotypes. According to the Scott-Knott grouping test, the number of seeds per fruit had the largest number of groups, with eight distinct groups, while plant height had only two groups. The genotypes GEN18 and GEN21 had the highest average values for fruit wall thickness and thus are indicated for the preparation of sauces. The genotypes GEN14 and GEN16 were the most promising for use for ornamental purposes. The Ward-MLM method made it possible to differentiate C. annuum L., C. baccatum L., C. chinense Jacq., and C. frutescens L. into different groups, and is thus a useful tool to detect genetic divergence.

AbstractA two-factorial field experiment with soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merill) was conducted in a randomized block design, with four replications. The tested factors were seed priming method and genotype responses. There had been seven soybean varieties (Aldana, Aligator, Annushka, Augusta, Lissabon, Mavka, and Merlin) and each of them had control (unprimed) and seed primed groups. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of hydropriming on germination ability and emergence under field conditions, on the growth and development of selected soybean varieties. Shortly before harvest, 10 randomly selected plants were collected from each plot, and their morphological and yield-related traits were measured. In addition, the seed yield was assessed. On the basis of statistical analysis, significant differences were found between the applied hydropriming method and the control group in regard to morphological traits. Seed treatment resulted in a slight increase in harvested seed yield, which is within error margin. The seed yield of Aligator increased significantly by 0.5 t ha−1, indicating a genotype-specific different reaction to seed priming in terms of yield.

Genetic diversity is an essential prerequisite for improving the genetic makeup of any crop. Inclusion of genetically diverse parents in hybridization programme helps in isolation of superior recombinants. So, an experiment was conducted to investigate the genetic diversity among 150 genotypes of sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] Rajasthan during Kharif - 2013, 2014 and 2015 in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications. Present study reveals that the clustering pattern based on D2 statistics grouped 150 genotypes into 6 clusters, out of which cluster 1 shows the highest intra cluster value (142.62) followed by cluster 2 (119.47). While maximum inter cluster distance (i.e.652.68) was observed between cluster 5 and cluster 6, indicating there is presence of wide range of genetic diversity among the sorghum genotypes. Such genotypes with wide genetic diversity based on their mean values can either be utilized for breeding programmes for genetic improvement in sorghum or directly adopted as a variety.

The objective of this study was to estimate the genetic diversity among yam bean landraces collected from different islands of Indonesia based on morphological traits. Thirty-six selected yam beans accessions from diverse ecological regions of Indonesia and six accessions from South and Central America were examined. Field trials were performed at two locations in Bogor, Indonesia, in a randomized block design with two replications. Genetic diversity between accessions based on morphological traits was determined by multivariate analysis. Time to flowering, first pod development, leaf length, leaf width, and internodes length played essential role in classification of the yam beans. A clear separation among the yam bean accessions collected from Indonesia, i.e., Sumatra landraces and the landraces collected from eastern Indonesia was detected. Furthermore, American accessions are not obviously separated from Indonesian yam bean materials.

An experiment using twenty genotypes of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) was conducted during Rabi season of 2019-2020, to find the genetic diversity using D2 statistics. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications at the experimental field of Himgiri Zee University, Dehradun. The observations was recorded on  nine quantitative characters where five randomly selected plants were taken the average was computed while the traits days to 50 % flowering and days to 100 % maturity was taken from plot basis. Results revealed that the genotypes were grouped into 4 clusters where Cluster-I had fifteen genotypes and cluster II had three genotypes while one genotype each was present in cluster III and IV. The seed yield per plant contributed maximum towards genetic diversity (32.00 %) followed by plant height at maturity (14.00 %) and number of secondary branches (9.00 %). The maximum intra cluster distance was found in cluster II (164.691) indicating that the 15 genotypes including in the cluster II were most divergent. However, maximum inter cluster distance was noticed between cluster I and cluster II (313.247) which could be used in hybridizing program.

Aim: The present investigation was designed to evaluate 150 diverse germplasm of Indian mustard along with five checks for seed yield and attributing traits. Methodology: A total of 150 genotypes of Indian mustard were evaluated in Augmented Block Design along with five check cultivars (Kranti, Maya, Pusa Bold, NPJ-112, RGN 73) in five blocks. Data were collected for 16 different quantitative traits on each genotype. Results: ANOVA revealed significant differences between genotypes for all traits studied. Seed yield plant-1 had significant and positive correlation with most of the yield contributing traits. For seed yield/plant, 15 accessions (DRMR-1722, BDJ-I-538, DRMR-4, JMG-113, DRMR-681, DRMR-1849, DRMR-1697, DRMR-1610, DRMR-1996, DRMR-107, DRMR-1588, DRMR-1379, DRMR-1995, IB-26, DRMR-2116) were significantly superior over best check. Interpretation: The present study was found useful for identification of diverse genotypes of Indian mustard for different yield attributing traits. The promising lines will be utilized in Indian mustard breeding for improving seed yield and oil content.

Aims: To identify the stable genotypes across the different environments for yield and its           attributing traits. Study Design: Field experimental design was applied. Place and Duration of Study: The experiment was conducted at Research Farm, SKN College of Agriculture, S.K.N. Agriculture University, Jobner (Rajasthan), India in different environments during rabi 2018-19. Methodology: An experiment was conducted on thirty genotypes of taramira (Eruca Sativa Mill.) in three environments created by three dates of sowing during rabi 2018-2019 in randomized block design with three replications to estimate genotypic × environment interaction and stability parameters for various yield and yield attributing traits. The stability analysis was carried out according to Eberhart and Russell model. Results: The highest yielding genotypes were RTM-1351, RTM-1810, RTM-1315 and RTM-314. Genotypes RTM-314, RTM-1800, RTM-1810 and RTM-1815 were found relatively stable for seed yield per plant. Genotypes RTM-1795, RTM-1798 and RTM-1799 had below average stability for seed yield per plant and suitable for better environmental conditions. Genotypes RTM-1791, RTM-1815 and RTM-1351 were showed above average stability for seed yield per plant and suitable for poor environmental condition. Further, these genotypes can be utilized in the development of stable cultivar taramira. Conclusion: Pooled analysis of variance indicated significant differences among environments and genotypes. Genotypes RTM-314, RTM-1800, RTM-1805 and RTM-1810 were found most stable for most of the characters, which can be grown in wide range of environments (all three dates of sowing).

Combining ability and heterosis were calculated for fourteen lines of linseed in a line × tester mating design using twelve lines and two diverse testers in two different environments. The hybrids and parental lines were raised in a completely randomized block design with three replications to investigate seed and fibre yield and their component traits. Genetic variation was significant for most of the traits over environments. Combining ability studies revealed that the lines KL-221 and LCK-9826 were good general combiners for seed yield and most of its components, whereas LMH-62 and LC-2323 were good general combiners for yield components only. Moreover, KL-221 was also a good general combiner for fibre yield. Similarly, B-509 and Ariane were good general combiners for fibre yield and most of its components. Among the specific cross combinations, B-509 × Flak-1 was outstanding for seed yield per plant and B-509 × KL-187 and LC-2323 × LCK-9826 for fibre yield per plant, with high SCA effects. In general, the hybrids excelled their respective parents and the standard checks for most of the characters studied. Based on the comparison of mean performance, SCA effects and the extent of heterosis, the hybrids LC-2323 × LCK-9826 and B-509 × KL-221 appeared to be the most promising for both seed and fibre yield. Other promising combinations were LC-2323 × KL-210 and B-509 × Ariane for seed and fibre yield, respectively. The superiority of LC-2323, LCK-9826, KL-221, B-509 and Ariane as good general combiners was further confirmed by the involvement of these parents in the desirable cross combinations.

A study was conducted to assess the effect of drip irrigation and plastic mulch on growth and seed yield of Semialata. Two types of plastic mulch (green and silver/black) were tested at three levels of irrigation (120%, 100% and 80%) by drip irrigation and one level (100%) by furrow irrigation. The daily water requirement of Semialata was estimated by the equation ETcrop= ETox crop factor. ETcrop is crop water requirement mm/day. ETo (reference evapotranspiration, mm/day) was calculated by FAO calculator which uses temperature and humidity data. In this experiments there were twelve treatments were considered. The treatments were replicated thrice. The experiment was laid in randomized block design. It was observed that drip irrigation with or without plastic mulch is yielding better results in terms of growth parameters and seed yield as compared to furrow irrigation without plastic mulch. It was also observed that maximum suppression (67.58%) of weeds resulted with drip irrigation and silver/black plastic mulch at 80% level of irrigation.
