This paper presents the design and development of a mobile application that uses QR codes for the inventory control of a computer center. This application was developed to support the administration of the computer center of the Multidisciplinary Unit Tizimin, with the aim to reduce costs and time of searching for articles when making an inventory, by leveraging the capabilities of smartphones and tablets. The implementation of the system was carried out using free software.

The number of mobile applications has been increasing rapidly in every field of life with the increasing use of smart devices. Smartphones and tablets make our lives easier with their properties and application they include. Minor or major accidents in traffic are always present in the daily life resulting in financial damage and loss of lives. There have been a number of studies done to speed up the processes to be done from the moment an accident happens. This study aims to enable people to perform all of the post-accident processes quickly and accurately with the use of mobile devices. In this way, papers and documents like photographs will be sent to the competent authorities without wasting time and effort. In addition, access to the road assistance needed will be quite easy. Mobile devices create new opportunities for companies. However, innovative applications can cause challenges for software and system architecture. In this chapter, the authors describe a trap to fall into when starting a promising mobile application in a shortsighted way. When the application gets popular and successful, diversity of mobile platforms increases. Many users have an almost emotional relationship to their own smartphone or platform and may not be willing to change it. In order to make the mobile application available to more users, a company may be tempted to add a “simple” extension to accommodate other platforms. Thus, the diversity in devices leads to diversity in distributed object technologies and with it to problems in complexity and compatibility. The authors describe an approach that counters this problem with RESTful services. They use the ConTexter system for illustrating experiences with the problem and for evaluating a proposed solution. The chapter shows the key issues the authors had to solve while migrating ConTexter to a RESTful platform.

At the current classrooms, teachers continue using traditional techniques for monitoring the class. However, there are more participation of mobile devices, and concretely, the tablets. In addition, the network access by both students and teachers in daily life is something usual and a routine work. For this reason, the authors propose the introduction at the classes of a system whose target is to facilitate teacher's labour in the common tasks that are done over the class session. Thus, through a mobile application and a centralized platform of students' data, the authors obtain an interactive and modern system that facilitates teacher's labour.

The deaf have a very fundamental problem, which is the ability to communicate and interact, so that it makes their very complicated. In the process of learning in basic education, the problem root faced by children with hearing impairment is the limitation in identifying and producing words. The learning process is limited to only rely on time at the school was an obstacle for them. Therefore, A-TooLips built as learning applications on mobile devices for the deaf children focusing on the ability to produce words. A-TooLips gives more time and places for hearing impaired children to learn, so that it helps their problem in communicating and interacting with others. It is explained in this paper that the A-TooLips has been successfully implemented and tested by some children with hearing impairment, and reached positive results.

Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME), .NET Compact Framework (.NET CF), and Active Server Pages .NET (ASP.NET) Mobile Controls are commonly used alternatives in mobile programming. They provide an environment for applications to run on mobile devices. However, they are different in many ways, such as supported mobile devices, architecture, and development. Hence, it is important for mobile application developers to understand the differences between them in order to choose the one that meets their requirement. Therefore, in this article we will discuss the general architecture of J2ME, .NET CF and ASP.NET Mobile Controls and compare the three alternatives.

As mobile devices are becoming the primary access channels for information, the authors need to have accurate effort estimation model for mobile application projects. In this paper the authors discuss “Mobile application estimation framework” that was designed based on 14 mobile application projects and was validated against 5 mobile application projects. In this paper the authors discuss the estimation framework for both native/hybrid mobile application projects and mobile web application projects. The proposed “Mobile application estimation framework” provides comprehensive coverage for various factors involved in mobile estimation such as layer-wise components, horizontal components and others. The estimation framework also considers the cost drivers and is used as effort adjustment factor. The proposed mobile application estimation framework achieved the MMRE of 0.207 with pred (0.3) of 80%.

This paper proposes a Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) system applicable in mobile devices. Due to the fact that different queries to a content-based image retrieval (CBIR) system emphasize different subsets of a large collection of features, most CBIR systems using only a few features are therefore only suitable for retrieving certain types of images. In this research we combine a wide range of features, including edge information, texture energy, and the HSV color distributions, forming a feature space of up to 1053 dimensions, in which the system can search for features most desired by the user. Through a training process using the AdaBoost algorithm9 our system can efficiently search for important features in a large set of features, as indicated by the user, and effectively retrieve the images according to these features. The characteristics of the system meet the requirements of mobile devices for performing image retrieval. The experimental results show that the performance of the proposed system is sufficiently applicable for mobile devices to retrieve images from a huge database.

Nowaday, the development of smartphone technology is increasingly popular. Android as one of the operating systems of mobile devices, provides tools and API for Android developers to develop applications. At universities, smartphone use is popular among students. Through smartphones, the use of mobile and web applications is more effective and efficient with the ease of delivery and receipt of information. In this study, the author made a mobile application that contains academic informations that complements the class schedule, the final semester exam schedule, incidental schedules, academic calendar and the latest announcements with push notification as a reminder for students. With this application it is expected that students can access and obtain the latest information anywhere more easily.

The development of mobile communication technology leads people to use technology not only as a communication tool, but also as a tool to find a variety of information, and news. Today's society considers mobile communications media as a very practical needs in its use and has high mobility. Many news portal now also includes news portal applications for mobile devices. Ganto UNP news portal does not provide the application which led to the news portal infrequently accessed through mobile devices because of the view that is not user-friendly when accessed through the device. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to design a mobile application for Ganto news portal. So that mobile device users no longer need to access the Ganto news portal through a web browser. Simply by using the mobile application. This application was designed with the Java programming language, Eclipse as an IDE, Eclipse ADT as a plugin on android, and the Android SDK for Android application development, as well as the AVD emulator to run the android system. Programming language used to build web-service is PHP programming language and MySQL DBMS that has owned news portals Ganto as data storage server. By utilizing the Android mobile device technology, successfully obtained an application that can accommodate the needs of people who have a high level of mobility to access information on Ganto news portals anytime and anywhere effectively and efficiently.  Keywords   : News Portal, Ganto, Android, web-service.
