Semiotic Assessment of Visualization Tools Alena Zakharova 1, Aleksey Shklyar 2 and Evgeniya Vekhter 2 1 Institute of Control Sciences of Russian Academy of Sciences, 65, Profsoyuznaya st., Moscow, 117997, Russian Federation 2 Tomsk Polytechnic University, 30, Lenin Ave., Tomsk, 634050, Russian Federation Abstract A visual analytics means is a set of tools used to obtain a visual representation of the data explored by the user, its interpretation and complete analysis. It is quite possible that such a set will be a developed specialized environment for continuous user interaction with a data stream, which has the capacity to control and replace the way of visual data representation. A wide range of existing visualization tools, as well as unlimited borrowing of technological solutions originally intended for a narrow application area, and the transfer of the capabilities they create to other directions make it urgent to form a sound approach to the comparison and selection of means of data visual representation of a given complexity [1]. The purpose of this selection is to save the end user’s resources, based on the absence or minimization of resource losses arising at the stage of selection and testing of visual analytics tools. The paper shows the possibility of using a semiotic visualization model for purposeful design or selection of visualization tools.

In the pandemic generated by the coronavirus, governments and the media were suddenly faced with the difficult challenge of communicating about this issue with the population and transferring technical concepts and large volumes of data to the general public. It was necessary to find a way to make this unfamiliar content accessible to everyone, using known and assimilable formulas. In this context, the strategy chosen to make this communication more efficient was clear: transmit all this vital information through the visual representation of data. In this work we analyze the problems associated with the data involved in these visualizations and review a selection of good and bad practices used in these communication strategies.

The paper addresses the loop shaping problem in the altitude control of an unmanned aerial vehicle to land the flying robot with a specific landing scenario adopted. The proposed solution is optimal, in the sense of the selected performance indices, namely minimum-time, minimum-energy, and velocity-penalized related functions, achieving their minimal values, with numerous experiments conducted throughout the development and preparation to the Mohamed Bin Zayed International Robotics Challenge (MBZIRC 2020). A novel approach to generation of a reference altitude trajectory is presented, which is then tracked in a standard, though optimized, control loop. Three landing scenarios are considered, namely: minimum-time, minimum-energy, and velocity-penalized landing scenarios. The experimental results obtained with the use of the Simulink Support Package for Parrot Minidrones, and the OptiTrack motion capture system proved the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

The problem of counting the number of shortest paths between two points on a grid is a combinatorial problem that is often found in mathematical competitions or enrichment problems for various levels of school. There are several ways to count, namely by drawing a figure (visual representation), by the number pattern in the Pascal Triangle, and the combination formula. This paper discusses a comparison of each ways related to the problem at hand. On a simple grid all of the three methods can be used. On complex grids the combination formula is the only method can be applied, in some cases the technique of number pattern in Pascal Triangle is still applicable.  On the grid with varied obstacles, foresight and flexibility is needed in the selection of the counting methods.

In this paper, an easily implementable coaxial quadrotor model and its validation on data from a real unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), are presented. The proposed mathematical model consists of two parts: description of orientation and position of the UAV in the three-dimensional space. It takes into consideration the gyroscopic effect, influence of the Coriolis force, viscous friction and a several drag-like effects (blade flapping, rotor drag, translational drag and profile drag). In contrast to multirotor models available in the literature, this one is characterized by complementarity in relation to the available control techniques. Depending on selection of these techniques, the model can be narrowed (simplified) to meet the needs without the loss of behaviour adequacy to a real UAV.

Islamic representation in “Nussa” animation as learning media for childrenAbstractIslamic education is a guide in the lives of Muslims. Films/videos/animations media on YouTube is considered an effective media in conveying Islamic education. Nussa animation is an animated series with Islamic edutainment content for parents and children. This study aims to discuss Islamic visual representation in Nussa animation. The research method used is discourse analysis based on Gillian Rose‟s visual analysis. The Islamic representation in Nussa animation can not only be seen in term of the story or visual but also can be seen from various combinations of all concepts of elements or related attributes in it. This can be seen from the selection of colours, scenes, the appearance of characters (costumes), dialogue and character name selection. Various uses of these elements and attributes are dominated by Islamic symbols.

By discussing a selection of socially engaged street artworks from the Frankfurt-based project ‘Under Art Construction’, this essay sheds light on street art’s possibilities as a form of resistance against the power of globalizing finance. The author argues that through the use of carnivalesque strategies of irony and appropriation, street art can challenge the pretense of rationality of recent policies of austerity in the eurozone. Such a challenge exposes the contingency of spending cut programs. He finally suggests that, in debunking the myth of economic rationality, street art can change people’s experience of finance, while opening up a space for imagining alternative economic scenarios.

Jangan sampai promo ini terlewat.”</strong></p><p><em>Abstract </em>– <strong>The purpose of this study is to find out the semantic, syntax, and pragmatic forms of the "FORD" car advertisements on digital Arabic newspapers during the month of Ramadhan 1440H. This research is qualitative descriptive by using the Semiotic model analysis of Charles Morris. The results showed that at the semantic level, the verbal text contains the meaning of denotation which is the meaning of bidding and the explanation of the advantages of the offer and the meaning of connotation is to gradually lead the reader to take the offer presented. In visual representation, there is an attempt to link ad formats with referrals. At the syntax level, the ad creator pays attention to the selection of the word type and the sentence shape to be sequential and orderly. Visually, there is a link between the visual elements and the text. At the pragmatic level, the relationship between the mark and the meaning of the marks is engraved from the mix between the verbal elements and the visual text of the ad. These ads convey the message "buy the latest type of FORD cars" in this month of Ramadan because you will be profitable. Don't miss this promo."</strong></p><strong><em>Keywords </em></strong>- <em>Iklan, Mobil “FORD”, Semiotik, Charles Morris, Koran digital. </em>
