Poikilospermum suaveolens is a plant could grows in the limestone area in Maros, Indonesia. The leaves are generally widely used as traditional medicine for treatment of wounds by local communities. This study aims to examine the wound healing potential of P. suaveolens leaves extract as well as scientific clarify of the plant. The plant leaves were extracted by maceration. The measurement of antioxidant activity by the DPPH technique (1,1 diphenil-2-pikrilhidrazil) spectrophotometrically. The antimicrobial activity was evaluated by formation of the inhibition zone. The wound healing activity was performed the percentage of injury closure in rats skin injury. The antioxidant activity showed that 70% ethanol and ethyl acetate extracts were not significantly different, however, highly distinct to the positive control (Butylated Hidroxyanisole). The antimicrobial activity of extract showed 70% ethanol and ethyl acetate extracts were not significantly against Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans, but significantly against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The evaluation of P. suaveolens extract on the rate of wound closure activity quickly, i.e., within 15 days the injury on the test animal was recovered. This study concludes that the P. suaveolens plant extracts are potential as a sources of active substances for wound healing.

The present study was aimed at comparing the in vivo wound healing and in vitro antibacterial activity of Abutilon indicum roots. Wound healing is a complex phenomenon which consists of three stages inflammatory, proliferative, and remodelling. Traditionally, A. indicum is used for wound healing. There is no specific scientific data available for the wound healing activity of Abutilon indicum root. The present study was designed to investigate the same. The wound healing activity of ethanolic and ethyl acetate extracts of A. indicum was evaluated in incision and burn wound models. The parameters studied include tensile strength, epithelialisation period and rate of wound contraction. A. indicum also possesses antimicrobial activity. Ethyl acetate and ethanolic extract of A. indicum was tested against both Gram positive, Gram negative and fungal organisms using agar well diffusion method. From the results, it was concluded that ethyl acetate extract of A. indicum root had greater wound activity and antimicrobial activity than the ethanolic extract.

Seed oils from two Mexican varieties of cactus pear (green: Opuntia albicarpa and red: Opuntia ficus indica) were extracted with different solvents (hexane, ethanol, and ethyl acetate) to evaluate their antioxidant activity. The seed oil with higher antioxidant activity was selected to evaluate antimicrobial activity. The fatty acid profile was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Oil from green cactus pear seeds obtained with ethanol and ethyl acetate exhibited higher antioxidant activity (p<0.05) of 323 and 316 μmol TE/20 mg (p < 0.05), respectively, compared to red cactus pear seed oil (≈274 and 247 μmol TE/20 mg with ethyl acetate and ethanol, resp.). The oil obtained with ethanol and higher antioxidant activity was used to determine the antimicrobial activity. Both cactus pear oils produced a microbial inhibition zone in most of the microorganisms evaluated, particularly Saccharomyces cerevisiae which had similar diameter (38–40 mm). The oil fatty acids profiles of both varieties were similar and exhibited a high content of linoleic acid, while two fatty acids (linolenic and behenic) found in red cactus pear were not observed in the green variety.

CRB46 and the prediction of their bioactive compounds chemical structure. Biodiversitas 21: 3380-3390. The goal of the research was to determine the antimicrobial activity of ethyl acetate extracts of Streptomyces sp. CRB46 and predict their chemical structure of the bioactive compounds based on the AntiSMASH analysis of the whole genome sequencing. Streptomyces sp. CRB46 was isolated from Cyperus rotundus L. rhizosphere in the Cemoro Sewu highland, Indonesia (1920 meters above sea level). The results showed that the supernatant ethyl acetate (EAS) extract could inhibit 11 of 12 tested microorganisms with a diameter of the inhibition zone ranging from 17-35 mm (paper disc method). The supernatant extract was found more effective in inhibiting microorganisms than the ethyl acetate extract of pellets (EAP). The EAP extract was only able to inhibit the growth of seven tested microorganisms (16-26 mm). The results of LCMS analysis showed that crude extract of EAS consisted of 20 mixtures of organic compounds. Based on FTIR analysis, 16 functional groups were found in the EAS extracts. In addition, based on AntiSMASH analysis, it was also found that Streptomyces sp. CRB46 produced eight classes of bioactive compounds, but only six compounds have been identified as their chemical structures. It can, therefore, be concluded that Streptomyces sp. CRB46 has the potential to produce bioactive compounds that can be used for microbial infection treatment.

The ethanolic and ethyl acetate extracts of Piper nigrum L and Coffea canephora were evaluated for their wound healing activity in rats. Wound healing activity was studied using excision wound models in rats following topical application. Animals were divided into eight groups with three in each group. Ten Percent w/v extract of each plant was prepared in gel CMC-Na for topical application. Piper nigrum L possesses better wound healing activity than Coffea canephora.

To evaluate the wound healing activity of ethanolic extract of Tamarix aphylla L. on animal model. Wound creation like circular excision and linear incision method were considered for this study. The various parameters were studied like DNA estimation, total protein estimation, estimation of Hexosamine and Uronic acid, estimation of lipid peroxides and antioxidant activity, Tensile Strength of tissues from incision wounds, Antioxidant activity, Antimicrobial activity, Period of epithelialization and finally TNF-a concentration in the wound tissue homogenate were estimated. The treatment groups with the extract showed significant antimicrobial activity with compare to the standard drug. Significantly, 93. 86% increase in the collagen content and significant 52% up regulation in tensile strength was observed in the treated group. 40% reduction was observed in epithelialization period of the treated wounds. The results of the current study confirm that the ethanolic extract of T. aphylla has potent wound healing capacity.

Poliomintha longiflora is a Mexican oregano, which has not been widely studied. This work aimed to describe the chemical composition, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities present in P. longiflora essential oil (EO), the hydrosol from EO extraction and extracts from waste solid residues (WSRs), identified as ethanol extract, ethyl acetate extract and the subfractions of ethanol and ethyl acetate extracts. The chemical characterization of the EO, hydrosol and WSR extracts was performed by GC–MS and HPLC. Their antioxidant activity was evaluated using two methods, and their antimicrobial activity was evaluated against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes, Bacillus cereus, and Salmonella Typhimurium. Thirty-one chemical components were identified in the EO. The subfractions from the ethanol and ethyl acetate extracts contain methylmaleic anhydride, thymoquinone, thymol, carvacrol, thymol acetate, carvacrol acetate, and phenolic acids. The EO presented the highest biological activities for antioxidant (136.05 mg equivalent of ascorbic acid/g (AAE/g); IC50 83.70 μg/mL of 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH)) and antimicrobial tests (minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of 250–750 mg/L), while the hydrosol and the ethyl acetate extract from WSRs had the lowest antioxidant activity (14.16 and 12.29 mg AAE/g respectively), and the hydrosol had the lowest antimicrobial activity (MIC of 3000 mg/L). The data suggest that Mexican oregano P. longiflora hydrosol and extracts from waste solid residues can still have compounds with antimicrobial and antioxidant capacities.

Objective: Ziziphora clinopodioides is an edible medicinal plant belongs to the Labiatae family that widespread all over Iran. It used as culinary and also in cold and cough treatments in Iran. The aim of present work was to evaluate the effect of different timeframes during the hydrodistillation on essential oil composition, antimicrobial and antioxidant activity. Materials and Methods: The essential oil of Z. clinopodiodes was extracted via hydrodistillation with Clevenger apparatus. The fractions of essential oil were captured at 6 times from the beginning of the distillation: (10, 20, 60, 120, 180 and 240 min). The fractions of essential oil were analyzed by GC/MS and their antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant activities were studied by Disk - well diffusion and DPPH methods respectively. Results: Six distillation times and whole essential oil were captured during the hydrodistillation. Essential oil yield dropped off significantly during distillation progressed (1.0% for 10 min and 0.025 for 240 min). 1,8 Cineol, Isomenthone, Pulegone, Piperitenone and Citronellic acid were major compounds in fractions and they were affected by distillation times. Pulegone was major compound in all of essential oils. In antioxidant activity assay, whole essential oil was stronger than was stronger than positive control and fractions of essential oil, because of higher levels of Isomenthone, Piperitenone and Citronellic acid. Strongest antimicrobial activity against S. aureus, E. coli and C. albicans was observed from 10 min fraction. Conclusion: Our results indicated that distillation time can create essential oils with specific properties and we can achieve to more efficient essential oil in short times.

Antioxidant activities of acetone and ethyl acetate extracts from Metaplexis japonica Makino, one of famous medicine plants in the eastnorth region of China, named luomo in Chinese, were examined by a DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical-scavenging assay and a β-carotene-linoleic acid test. In DPPH, the antioxidant activity of the acetone extracts, ethyl acetate extracts and derivative were IC50 were 313.21, 266.92 and 118.78μg/mL, respectively. In the β-carotene-linoleic acid test, IC50 were 285.09, 351.57 and 123.89μg/mL. It was concluded that Metaplexis japonica Makino and its derivatives might be a potential natural source of antioxidants .

Background: In recent years, the study of the structure and biological activity of medicinal plants has a particularly important to search for diabetes medicine. Ruellia tuberosa is used to treat various diseases such as diabetes by inhibiting the activity of α-glucosidase. Objective: In this study, experiment was designed to isolated isolate and identified identify α-glucosidase inhibitory extracts and compounds from Ruellia tuberosa L. through bio-assay guided isolation. Method: Dry powder of Ruellia tuberosa L. was extracted with 70% ethanol, then liquid-liquid partition with n-hexane, ethyl acetate and butanol, respectively. The extracts were evaluated with α-glucosidase inhibition. The potential extracts were isolated and identified compounds. The effects of these compounds on the α-glucosidase inhibitory were evaluated. Results: The a-glucosidase inhibitory activities showed that the n-hexane, ethyl acetate and the butanol extract had the α-glucosidase inhibition with an IC50 of 46.2 0.9, 6.6 2.9 and 8.9  μg/mL, respectively. From the n-hexane and ethyl acetate extracts, the structures of four compounds were elucidated by NMR spectroscopic method, including lupeol (1), syringaresinol (2), apigenin (3), verbascoside (4). The a-glucosidase inhibitory activities showed that all isolated compounds were more active than the positive control - acarbose with an IC50 of 37.5  0.4; 19.5  0.2; 20.1  0.3; 69.3  0.2 µg/mL, respectively. Conclusion: The ethyl acetate extract showed strong activity about 19 times more than positive control - acarbose. The compound syringaresinol (2) was the most powerful α-glucosidase inhibitor. Therefore, Ruellia tuberosa L. contains many compounds that can inhibit α-glucosidase activity.

The aim of the present study was to explore the effect of wound healing activity of the whole plant of Momordica charantia Linn. in rats. The effect of aqueous ethanolic extract of Momordica charantia Linn. (Family; Cucurbetaceae) was evaluated on resutured incision, granuloma pouch and excision wound models in rats. The wound healing activity was measured by the rate of wound contraction, skin breaking strength, weight of the granulation tissue, and collagen content. The concentrated ethyl alcohol extract was subject to fractionation by using petroleum ether (40-60o V/V), solvent ether, ethyl acetate, butanol, butanone, ethanol and methanol in succession. All the fractions were screened for wound healing property. The results of pharmacological activity led to the conclusion that the petroleum ether fraction exhibited more significant wound healing promotion property followed by solvent ether and butanone, from all the parameters studied. Ethyl acetate, ethanol and methanol fractions were least effective.
