Objective: The aim of this research is to formulate and evaluate the wound healing gel of Leucaena leucocephala leaves extract. Methods: In this research, the extract of Leucaena leaves was formulated into wound healing gel by using a variation of the concentration of Carbopol as a gelling agent and Propylene glycol as a humectant. Afterward, the gel's physical properties (pH, viscosity, spreadability), stability, and sterility were tested. The wound healing activity was evaluated by making excision wounds on the Wistar Albino rat's back, and then the gels were applied to the wound every day. The wound's size was measured and counted as the percentage of wound closure. Results: The result showed that Formula 4 (contains 1.5% of Carbopol and 12% of Propylene glycol) has the best physical characteristics and wound healing activity. Formula 4 showed 100% wound closure on the 11th day of the treatment, while the negative control only reached 49.12%. The statistical parameter with the p-value<0.05 stated that they are significantly different. Conclusion: This research demonstrated that gel with Leucaena leaf extract has good physical characteristics, and it can significantly improve the wound healing process.

Abstract The genus Pouteria has been studied because it presents various activities, among which is its anti-inflammatory potential. The effects of Pouteria ramiflora Carbopol gel on the healing of skin wounds in diabetic rats were evaluated by microscopic imaging. Streptozotocin was administered intraperitoneally in animals that had fasted for 12 hours, a situation confirmed by the glycemic index (˃ 240 mg dL-1). An excision on the back of the animals was performed and three groups were formed: Control (Gel), Ethanolic extract (Ext) and Gel + extract 2% (Ext+gel); the histopathological evaluation occurred on the 7th, 14th, 21st and 30th days after the post-operative period. The results of the phytochemical prospecting of P. ramiflora extract demonstrated the major presence of phenolic compounds and flavonoids; the assessment of the inflammatory infiltrate on the 7th day was higher on group Ext and Ext+gel when compared to group Control; on the 14th day control and Ext (p<0.05). The quantification of fibroblasts was higher on the 7th day among the three treatments, control and Ext (p<0.05), on the 21st day. Angiogenesis showed a higher number of vessels in Ext+gel group (p<0.05) on the 7th day; in Control, Ext and Ext+gel (p<0.05) on the 14th day; and Control and Ext (p<0.05)on the 21st day. The histopathological results showed that the formulation Ext+gel was efficient in tissue reparation and decrease in inflammatory cells on the diabetic’s animals.

The present study is aimed at evaluation of phytosomal gel of the petroleum ether extract of root bark of Onosma echiodes for wound healing activity in rats. Extract of root bark of O. echioides was standardized by isolated naphthoquinone dimer using HPTLC. Phytosomes (equivalent to 2% w/w of naphthoquinones) of the standardized extract were prepared by thin film hydration technique. The wound healing efficacy of the formulation was evaluated in rats by inflicting excision and incision wounds followed by treatment of the wounds topically. The parameters evaluated for healing included determination of breaking strength and tensile strength of healed skin for incision model and percentage wound contraction, hydroxyproline content, granulation tissue free radicals and catalase in excision wound model. The formulation treated group showed a significant healing (p<0.005) of both the excision and incision wounds with respect to wound contraction and tensile strength respectively, as compared to vehicle treated group. The oxidative stress of the granulation tissue was also found to be reduced as indicated by reduced lipid peroxidation and increase in catalase activity. The phytosomal gel of O. echioides effectively exhibited wound healing effect.

The qualitative composition of phenolic acids and burn wound healing activity of Prunella grandiflora L. extract were studied. The content of rosmarinic (621±5 mg/g), coffeic (11.2±0.2 mg/g), syringic (46.5±1.4 mg/g), n-coumaric (25.8±0.5 mg/g), and ferulic (42.7±2.9 mg/g) acids in dry extracts of P. grandiflora was determined by HPLC. Three new burn-healing agents of different composition containing 5% of the dry extract of Prunella grandiflora L. (big-flowered self-heal) were developed. The developed agents were tested on male Wistar rats with second- and third-degree thermal burns. An assessment of skin restoration was carried out in experimental and control groups of animals. It was revealed that animals treated with the developed soft dosage forms restored the epithelium and coat 6–8 days faster that those treated with compositions containing no extract under study. It was found that the developed soft dosage forms based on P. grandiflora extract exhibit anti-inflammatory and wound-healing action.

AbstractTalas or taro leaf contains active compounds in the form of flavonoids and saponins that can accelerate the process of epidermal tissue re-epitalization and infiltration of inflammatory cells in the wound area. The purpose of this study was to compare the healing activities of the n-hexane fraction, methanol fraction, and taro leaf extract in New Zealand rabbits. The extraction method using maceration, the fractionation method used liquid-liquid partition with a separating funnel and the treatment method on test animals used was the application of the n-hexane fraction, methanol fraction, and taro leaf extract on open wounds of New Zealand rabbits with positive control and negative control. The data obtained is in the form of the value of open wound narrowing on the rabbit’s back. The result of the data were analyzed by ANOVA (Analysis Of Variant) followed by the LSD (Least Significant Different) test to see which treatment gave different effect in each group. The results of the research or testing for 14 days showed that the extract, n-hexane fraction, and methanol fraction had wound healing activity on the rabbit back with statistical data showing significant differences between treatment groups. The extract had the most optimal wound healing activity compared to other treatment groups. Keywords: talas leaf, extract, fraction, wound AbstrakDaun talas mengandung senyawa aktif berupa flavonoid dan saponin yang mampu mempercepat proses reepitalisasi jaringan epidermis dan infiltrasi sel-sel radang pada daerah luka.
