Leucas zeylanica belongs to the Lamiaceae family has high medicinal value. The phytochemicals screening results showed that terpenoids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, phenols and alkaloids are present in aerial part of L. zeylanica.Vacuum liquid chromatography (VLC) and column chromatography (CC) techniques were used in fractionation and purification of the crude extracts.

Abstract A method is described for determining substituted urea herbicides in foods. The residues are extracted from the product with methanol, and the food coextractives are removed by using solvent partitioning and Florisil column chromatography. The extract is analyzed using liquid chromatography with postcolumn photodegradation, chemical derivatization with orthophthalaldehyde, and spectrofluorometry. Recoveries were determined by spiking 8 different food products with 6 phenylureas—chlorbromuron, chloroxuron, diuron, fluometuron, linuron, and metobromuron—at 0.05 and 0.5 ppm. Three determinations were made at each level for each product. Average recovery at 0.05 ppm was 95% (with a standard deviation of 7.9%), and at 0.5 ppm, 98% (with a standard deviation of 6.9%).

AbstractThis study presents the results obtained from qualitative and quantitative analysis of gallic acid from hydro-alcoholic extracts (methanol, ethanol) of plants from Plantae regnum. Plant qualitative analysis was performed using a novel mass spectrometric (MS) method based on fully automated chip-nanoelectrospray ionization (nanoESI) high capacity ion trap (HCT) while quantitative analysis was carried out by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). These methods were applied to Alchemilla vulgaris — common lady’s-mantle (aerial part), Allium ursinum — bear’s garlic (leaves), Acorus calamus — common sweet flag (roots), Solidago virga-aurea — goldenrod (aerial part). Obtained results indicated that methanol extracts (96%, 80%) have a gallic acid content ranging between 0.0011–0.0576 mg mL−1 extract while the ethanol extracts (96%, 60%) exhibit a gallic acid concentration that varies between 0.0010–0.0182 mg mL−1 extract.

Abstract A liquid chromatographic (LC) method is described for determination of olaquindox residues in swine tissues. The drug is extracted from tissues with acetonitrile, and the extract is evaporated to dryness. This residue is cleaned up by alumina column chromatography. LC analysis is carried out on a Nucleosil C18 column, and olaquindox is quantitated by ultraviolet detection at 350 nm. The average recoveries of olaquindox added to tissues at levels of 0.2, 0.1, and 0.05 ppm were 74.0, 68.6, and 66.3%, respectively. The detection limit was 2 ng for olaquindox standard and 0.02 ppm in tissues.

In order to screen theCatalpaplant with high antioxidant activity and confirm the corresponding active fractions fromCatalpa ovataG. Don,C. fargesiiBur., andC. bungeiC. A. Mey., total flavonoid contents and antioxidant activities of the extracts/fractions ofCatalpaplant leaves were determined. The determined total flavonoid content and antioxidant activity were used as assessment criteria. Those compounds with antioxidant activity were isolated with silica gel column chromatography and ODS column chromatography. Our results showed that the total flavonoid content inC. bungeiC. A. Mey. (30.07 mg/g·DW) was the highest, followed by those inC. fargesiiBur. (25.55 mg/g·DW) andC. ovataG. Don (24.96 mg/g·DW). According to the determination results of total flavonoid content and antioxidant activity in 3 clones of leaves ofC. bungeiC. A. Mey., the total flavonoid content and antioxidant activity in crude extracts fromC. bungeiC. A. Mey. 6 (CA6) leaves were the highest. Moreover, the results showed that the total flavonoid content and antioxidant activities of ethyl acetate (EA) fraction in ethanol crude extracts in CA6 leaves were the highest, followed byn-butanol, petroleum ether (PE), and water fractions. Two flavonoid compounds with antioxidant activity were firstly isolated based on EA fraction. The two compounds were luteolin (1) and apigenin (2), respectively.
