The effect of annealing on the microstructural and magnetic properties of Er2.5Y0.5Fe5O12 sol-gel films were studied at different temperatures using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopic (FESEM) and vibration sample magnetometer (VSM).The results show that the XRD pattern of the samples have a single phase garnet structure with reduction in the lattice parameter of Er:YIG films due to the smaller ionic radii of Er3+ compare to Y3+. The sizes of the particles are in the range of 50 to 90 nm. The saturation magnetization (Ms) increase and then decreases as the temperature increased.

CoCr2O4 nanoparticles were prepared by low-temperature sol–gel auto combustion method. In this paper, we have investigated the structural behavior of CoCr2O4 nanoparticles annealed at two different temperatures (600 °C and 800 °C). From the X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of CoCr2O4, we have found that there is no change in crystalline structure and it was indexed in the cubic spinel structure with space group Fd3m. It was observed that average crystallite size increases with calcination temperature. High calcination temperature reduced the noise level and enhanced the accuracy of calculated parameters. For both the samples of CoCr2O4, we observed Raman scattering modes at around 471, 516, 539, 561, 590, 626 and 688 cm–1. The additional modes in vibrational spectra appear due to the disorder effect.

Abstract Double perovskite-type oxide Ca2BMoO6 materials, where B = Cr, La and Sm, were prepared by the sol-gel auto-combustion method for the first time. The role of different B-site cations on their synthesis, structures, and magnetic properties was investigated. The synthesis progress was followed by the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and the samples’ structure was investigated by X-ray diffraction. The increase of the ionic radii B leads to the decrease of the t-value which reflects the structural distortion from the ideal cubic perovskite. Magnetization measurements were made with a SQUID magnetometer. All compounds are ferimagnetic and magnetic properties are indirectly influenced by the distortion degree of the lattice and disorder on the B/B’ positions

The formation of barium hexaferrite, BaFe12O19 single phase with nanosize crystalline is very important to get the best performance especially magnetic properties. The samples were prepared by sol gel method in citric acid-metal nitrates system. Hence the mole ratios of Ba2+/Fe3+ were varied at 1:12 and 1:11.5 with pH of 7 in all cases using ammonia solution. The solution was then heated at 80-90°C for 3 to 4 hours. Then it was kept on a pre-heated oven at 150°C. The samples were then heat treated at 450°C for 24 hours. Sintering process was done at 850°C and 1000°C for 10 hours.Crystallite size was calculated by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) peaks using scherrer formula. To confirm the formation of a single phase, XRD analyses were done by comparing the sample patterns with standard pattern. The peak shifting of pattern could be seen from XRD pattern using rocking curves at extreme certain 2θ. It was used MPS Magnet Physik EP3 Permagraph L to know magnetic characteristics. This method can produce BaFe12O19 nanosize powder, 22-34 nm for crystallite size and 55.59-78.58 nm for particle size. A little diference in nanosize affects the peak shifting of XRD pattern significantly but shows a little difference in magnetic properties especially for samples at 850°C and 1000°C with mole ratio of 1:12 respectively. The well crystalline powder is formed at mole ratio of 1:11.5 at 850°C since it has the finest particle (55.59 nm) and crystalline (21 nm), the highest remanent magnetization (0.161 T) and the lowest intrinsic coersive (275.8 kA/m). It is also fitting exactly to the standard diffraction pattern with the highest value of best Figure of Merit (FoM), 90%. XRD peak position of this sample is almost same with XRD peak position of another sample with sinter temperature 1000°C at same mole ratio.

Powders of Mg0.4Ca0.6Fe2O4were prepared by sol-gel using ethylene glycol and Mg, Ca and Fe nitrates as starting materials. Those powders were heat treated at different temperatures (300, 400, 500 and 600 °C) for 30 min. The materials obtained were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM). The Ca-Mg ferrite with the most appropriate magnetic properties was further analyzed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The heating capability of the nanoferrites was also tested via magnetic induction. The XRD patterns of these Ca-Mg ferrites showed a cubic inverse spinel structure. Furthermore, neither traces of hematite nor orthorhombic Ca ferrite phases were detected. Moreover, all the Ca-Mg ferrites are superparamagnetic and the particle size distribution of these Ca-Mg magnetic nanoparticles exhibits an average diameter within the range of 10-14 nm. The needed temperature for hyperthermia treatment was achieved at around 12 min.

Abstract Nanocrystalline Li 0.35 Ni 0.3 Fe 2.35 O 4 ferrites were prepared at different annealing temperature by sol-gel auto-combustion method. The effects of the annealing temperature on the structure and magnetic properties of the synthesized Li-Ni ferrites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR) and Squid-VSM. Rietveld refinement of the X-ray diffraction data confirmed the occurrence of phase transition from α-spinel to β-spinel, from which the ideal cation occupation and lattice parameter can be obtained. The grain size increased significantly with annealing temperature. The variation of saturation magnetization can be well explained in terms of the occupation of ions in tetrahedron and octahedron. The coercivity initially increased and later decreased significantly from 115 to 37 Oe with the increase of annealed temperature which could be attributed the fact that the 600℃-annealed grain size is close to transition size from single to multidomain region.

AbstractThis study presents a preparation of SrFe12O19– SrTiO3 nanocomposite synthesis via the green auto-combustion method. At first, SrFe12O19 nanoparticles were synthesized as a core and then, SrTiO3 nanoparticles were prepared as a shell for it to manufacture SrFe12O19–SrTiO3 nanocomposite. A novel sol-gel auto-combustion green synthesis method has been used with lemon juice as a capping agent. The prepared SrFe12O19–SrTiO3 nanocomposites were characterized by using several techniques to characterize their structural, morphological and magnetic properties. The crystal structures of the nanocomposite were investigated via X-ray diffraction (XRD). The morphology of SrFe12O19– SrTiO3 nanocomposite was studied by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The elemental composition of the materials was analyzed by an energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX). Magnetic properties and hysteresis loop of nanopowder were characterized via vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) in the room temperature. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra of the samples showed the molecular bands of nanoparticles. Also, the photocatalytic behavior of nanocomposites has been checked by the degradation of azo dyes under irradiation of ultraviolet light.

Mn, Fe doped ZnO powders (Zn0.95-xMnxFe0.05O2, x≤0.05) were synthesized by an ameliorated sol-gel method, using Zn(CH3COO)2, Mn(CH3COO)2and FeCl2as the raw materials, with the addition of vitamin C as a kind of chemical reducer. The resulting powder was subsequently compacted under pressure of 10 MPa at the temperature of 873K in vacuum. The crystal structure and magnetic properties of Zn0.95-xMnxFe0.05O2powder and bulk samples have been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was used to study chemical valence of manganese, iron and zinc in the samples. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) results showed that Zn0.95-xMnxFe0.05O (x≤0.05) samples were single phase with the ZnO-like wurtzite structure. No secondary phase was found in the XRD spectrum. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showed that Fe and Mn existed in Zn0.95-xMnxFe0.05O2samples in Fe2+and Mn2+states. The results of VSM experiment proved the room temperature ferromagnetic properties (RTFP) of Mn, Fe co-doped ZnO samples.

Cobalt-chromium ferrite, CoCrxFe2−xO4 (x = 0–1.2), has been synthesized by the sol-gel auto-combustion method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) indicates that samples calcined at 800 °C for 3 h were a single-cubic phase. The lattice parameter decreased with increasing Cr concentration. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) confirmed that the sample powders were nanoparticles. It was confirmed from the room temperature Mössbauer spectra that transition from the ferrimagnetic state to the superparamagnetic state occurred with the doping of chromium. Both the saturation magnetization and the coercivity decreased with the chromium doping. With a higher annealing temperature, the saturation magnetization increased and the coercivity increased initially and then decreased for CoCr0.2Fe1.8O4.

AbstractIn this work, BiFeO3 powders were synthesized by a sol–gel method. The influence of annealing temperature on the structure and magnetic properties of the samples has been discussed. X-ray diffraction studies showed that the purest phase was formed in the temperature range of 400 °C to 550 °C and the samples annealed at a temperature below 550 °C were of nanocrystalline character. Mössbauer spectroscopy and magnetization measurements were used as complementary methods to investigate the magnetic state of the samples. In particular, the appearance of weak ferromagnetic properties, significant growth of magnetization, and spin-glass-like behavior were observed along with the drop of average grain size. Mössbauer spectra were fitted by the model assuming cycloidal modulation of spins arrangement and properties of the spin cycloid were determined and analyzed. Most importantly, it was proved that the spin cycloid does not disappear even in the case of the samples with a particle size well below the cycloid modulation period λ = 62 nm. Furthermore, the cycloid becomes more anharmonic as the grain size decreases. The possible origination of weak ferromagnetism of the nanocrystalline samples has also been discussed.
