This research purpose is to examine the informal learning among automotive workshop entrepreneurs. Three research objectives such as informal learning factors, informal learning strategies and informal learning effects are also identified. This study used a case study by using a qualitative method. Semi-structured interviews have been used for data collection. By using purposive sampling, five automotive workshop entrepreneurs in Kota Tinggi were selected as respondents. The findings show that individual needs, environment, interests, motivations and job requirements have been factors that help automotive workshop entrepreneurs involved in informal learning. In addition, reading materials, electronic media, observation, consulting with experts and try and error are informal learning strategies that have been used. Moreover, the effects of informal learning can be seen as the enhancement of knowledge and skills. Meanwhile, there has been a positive change in the attitude of automotive workshop entrepreneurs. This study also provided suggestions for improvement to future researchers.

Many studies on the implementation of quality management programs were carried out by previous researchers. However, the study on the soft or human factors in the implementation of quality management programs is still poorly explored. Therefore, this article aims to analyze soft factors in the implementation of quality management programs at Selangor Islamic Religious Council or Majlis Agama Islam Selangor (MAIS). This study uses a qualitative method involving MAIS as a case study. Semi-structured interviews were used as a data collection method and supported by relevant documents collected from MAIS. A total of fifteen informants comprising top management and MAIS officers were interviewed to obtain in-depth information on the subjects studied. The findings reveal that there are six soft factors emerged in the implementation of quality management programs at MAIS namely leadership, training and development, teamwork, customer focus, Syura and rewards. This study demonstrates that soft factors has helped facilitate the implementation of quality management programs in MAIS. The results of this study can be used as guidance by managers in public or corporate organizatons in their efforts to implement quality management programs effectively.

Smartphones and WhatsApp are, respectively, the medium and application that Spanish teenagers most want. However, research into the use of WhatsApp is still quantitatively and qualitatively limited. In addition, little research has been carried out regarding its impact on the development of transmedia skills and informal learning strategies outside the classroom. This article aims to expand the knowledge on teenagers’ motivations and their development of transmedia skills and informal learning strategies in relation to their use of WhatsApp. Specifically, a qualitative analysis of data gathered from workshops, interviews, and media diaries is applied as part of a case study methodology involving teenagers from 10 schools located in five different Spanish regions. The results reveal the new WhatsApp uses teenagers are applying in their daily lives as well as the skills and strategies they are developing through said uses in the context of interpersonal and group (WhatsApp groups) interactions: on one hand, production, social, content, and individual management skills, and on the other hand, learning by doing, teaching, and evaluating strategies.

This research aimed to find out the good EFL adult learners learning strategies in acquiring the foreign language and how the learning strategies affect the leaners achievement at Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare. The method used in this research was qualitative method. The instrument were an interview and audio recorder. The participant of the research were the graduate students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare within the age of 25-65 as one of the criteria of adult learners. The result of the research showed that the learning strategies applied by the learner were direct and indirect strategy. Direct strategy covered memory related strategy, cognitive strategy and compensatory strategy while metacognitive strategy, affective strategy and social strategy were included in indirect strategy.

Purpose – This paper aims to explore at Loughborough University (UK) how informal learning spaces (ILS) are used by students in the Library and elsewhere on campus. Focus includes learning activities undertaken by students, reasons why the ILS is chosen, suggestions on how they can be improved and how technologies are used. Comparison will be drawn between how students use Library ILS and other ILS. Design/methodology/approach – Case study based at Loughborough University and its Library. Semi-structured interviews were held with 265 students in various ILS spaces across campus. Findings – Similarities and differences are present in the way students use Library ILS compared with other ILS campus spaces. These include impact of campus geography and individual academic levels of students. Research limitations/implications – This is a single case study and the results can only relate to Loughborough University. There may be some lessons and themes that are relevant to other universities. The number of interviewees is relatively small. Practical implications – Highlights the need for cooperation between various university stakeholders to strategically and operationally manage different ILS on campus. Originality/value – This is one of the very few studies that investigate together the range of ILS including the Library in a comparative approach.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the integration of school and leisure activities and to inform professional practice by exploring the opportunities and challenges that arise when school-day teachers and leisure-care personnel set out to build a collaborative network. Design/methodology/approach This paper presents a multiple case study of five Reykjavik elementary schools that participated in a project called “The Day of the Child.” Data were gathered using semi-structured interviews and focus groups with school leaders, leisure-time center coordinators, teachers, and leisure-care personnel, as well as using field notes and documentary analysis. Findings The participants in the study reported that increased integration supported the well-being of children by offering leisure activities within the school day. Emphasis on leisure reinforced children’s informal and social learning. Challenges identified were organizational barriers, such as professional boundaries between leisure and school, unclear roles of leisure-care personnel and lack of active collaboration. Drawing on the findings, the author explores possibilities for enhanced professional practice within schools. Practical implications Leisure and informal learning are marginalized in the educational discourse due to the global push in education toward outcomes-based education and standardized testing. This study underlines the need for leisure pedagogy in elementary schools. Originality/value This paper provides an understanding of the importance of informal learning within the formal school culture. The findings reflect the experiences and insights of those working with children and focuses on a much neglected part of education, informal learning.

Purpose The paper aims to examine the impact of the Greek economic recession on workplace learning. Specifically, it surveys the views of Greek business professionals regarding whether workplace learning could be used as a competitive advantage in achieving business success. Design/methodology/approach The paper follows a qualitative research method and discusses the findings of semi-structured interviews with professionals in various industries in Greece. Findings This study provides evidence of an overall reluctance to adopt formal learning strategies. Although hiring and retaining the best talent at work is seen as a competitive advantage, Greek professionals do not attribute success to formal workplace learning. Instead, digitalization of informal learning becomes essential for acquiring new knowledge. Social implications In the first few years of Greece’s economic recovery, companies aim to keep their budgets low in anything that seems luxurious and ultimately unnecessary. The paper discusses some implications of the implementation of digitalized informal learning in business. Originality/value This study is the first to explore how Greek professionals from various business sectors and managerial levels view workplace learning during the initial years of the country’s economic recovery.

This article examines two case studies from Malta that focus on older men learning through informal channels. The first case study investigated the role of a community-based organisation - namely, a religious confraternity dedicated to 'Our Lady of Immaculate Conception' of the village of Mqabba - as an avenue for informal learning activities for older men. The second case study investigated the connection between affiliation in the Labour Party Veterans' branch of the Labour Party (Malta) and informal learning. The case studies were carried out by employing a qualitative-methodological framework whereby data was collected through semi-structured interviews. The intent was to reveal the perceived interests and expectations regarding what would be considered a satisfying lifestyle in the context of membership of older men in both organisations. Findings reveal the benefits that older men enjoy through participation in such organisations, including increased levels of independence, improved social participation, and positive effects on participants' self-esteem and personal confidence. Informants report that membership also contributed to their mental and physical health and to increased activity. Many underlined how participation aided them in escaping boredom and keeping in touch with the outside world. Findings also reveal that only a few informants were simultaneously involved in organisations and activities not related to their religious and political affiliations, which highlights the importance of both informal learning channels in helping older men lead successful and active lives.

In the current situation, students consider a less exciting subject and less motivated to learn social studies. So that students tend to be less enthusiastic when participating in learning, especially in distance learning. This study aims to describe social studies learning innovations for students based on fun educational games for students. This research method is a qualitative method using case study techniques directly on students and literature students. The results of this study are; (1) social studies learning strategies based on fun educational games related to simple social studies materials, but packaged in interesting patterns for students so that they can increase students motivation and interest in learning, especially in social studies learning; (2) Increasing the optimization of students in understanding social studies materials with the concept of strengthening reflection in social studies learning, especially in the introduction of regions and cultures in Indonesia.

This research was conducted to describe the readiness of Islamic-based kindergarten teachers regarding STEM education. This research uses a qualitative approach. This research used a purposive sampling method to select the participants. The research participant consisted of 11 teachers who came from Islamic-based kindergartens. Participants were involved in semi-structured interviews. The qualitative data were analyzed by inductive content analysis. This case study results reveal knowledge, readiness, learning strategies, media, and challenges faced by teachers. There are differences in learning strategies, methods, and media used in implementing STEM in each Islamic school. The lack of knowledge and the low creativity of teachers is also an obstacle for schools in implementing STEM learning..

The purpose of this research is to find out “The reflection of organizational culture on technology usage in secondary education classes”. This is a case study which is a qualitative method. 10 teachers were chosen as participants via chain sampling. The data were collected by means of open-ended questions asked at semi-structured interviews. The researchers recorded the interviewees’ responses by taking notes. The data was processed via content and thematic analyses. Tables were used to present the data. The findings of the study indicate that the school leaders are not able to find efficient solutions to problems about in-class technology usage. It is also determined that virus programs on computers are not up to date. Teachers do not prefer using technology in their classes since they are anxious about falling behind the annual plan and the classes are over-crowded. Another noteworthy finding is that even though some teachers use technology for educational purposes, help each other and share their materials, there are some teachers who do not act responsibly concerning the usage and protection of the devices.
