B. cryptarum and B. magnus are among the so-called cryptic species whose identification is very difficult due to high interspecific variability of their morphological characteristics. This greatly limits possibilities for studying their biology, bionomics and ecology. The aim of this research was to contribute to knowledge about distribution of B. cryptarum in Moravia (Czech Republic) and to verify the possibility of its laboratory rearing. During 2006–2009, 26 collections were performed at Moravian localities. Of the 17 specimens that were assigned to B. cryptarum or B. aff. cryptarum based on morphology, the molecular analysis of mtDNA RFLP confirmed the identification of 10 speciemens. The molecular analysis even assigned to B. cryptarum one specimen determined morphologically as B. aff. magnus. Of four queens captured in spring, and while applying a laboratory method used for breeding of B. terrestris, two complete nests were successfully reared, including queens of the 2nd generation that then set up their own brood. Species identification of these queens as B. cryptarum was confirmed by both molecular analysis and analysis of the marking pheromones of males among their offspring. A single B. terrestris worker was able to raise young queens of B. cryptarum of the brood.

The current generally accepted concept of Russula maculata defines the species by yellow-brownish spots on the basidiomata, an acrid taste, a yellow spore print and a red pileus. This concept was tested using collections originating from various geographical areas mainly in Europe. Analyses of the ITS region suggested that there were three species within this broad concept. One of them, R. maculata, was identified based on the sequence from the epitype. Two other species, R. nympharum and R. sp., are described here as newly identified species. The European species R. maculata and R. nympharum grow in deciduous forests, are similar in their field aspect and are distinctly different in micro-morphological characteristics of spores, pleurocystidia and pileipellis. An Asian species, R. sp., is associated with pine and has smaller basidiomata and spores. These three species form the R. maculata complex and represent the sister clade to the R. globispora complex. This clade consists of species also characterized by a yellow-brownish context discolouration but with a different type of spore ornamentation. All of the other tested species had an acrid taste and yellow spore print but did not have a conspicuous yellow-brownish context discolouration and were placed in various unrelated clades.

The article describes a range of features typical of the manner in which Mongolians integrate themselves into an alien culture, particularly their way of life in the Czech Republic. Since the migration history of Mongolian minority living in our country is relatively short, the inquiry into their special circumstances required that we set up several focus groups at those places of Czechia where their populations are largest, namely in the regions of Highland, Pardubice, Zlín and Karlovy Vary. Special attention was paid to their involvement in regional policy in dependence on their numbers. As also follows from what was said above, the number of available interpreters and translators offering a command of both Czech and Mongolian languages is insufficient and does not meet the needs of integration.

Two ectoparasite powdery mildew species <i>Golovinomyces cichoracearum</i> (<i>Gc</i>) and <i>Podosphaera xanthii</i> (<i>Px</i>) occurring on cucurbits differ, besides other characteristics, by specific ecologic requirements. While <i>Px</i> is common in subtropical and tropical areas and greenhouse crops, <i>Gc</i> occurs more frequently in temperate and cooler areas under field conditions. Their presence on cucurbit field crops (<i>Cucurbita pepo</i>, <i>C. maxima</i>, <i>Cucumis sativus</i>) was monitored in the Czechoslovakia (1979–1980) and in the Czech Republic (1995–2007). Their identification was carried out by microscopic observation of the morphological characteristics of the dry conidia on 1527 leaf samples. Data on air temperature in 1979–2007 were provided by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute. In 1979–1980 <i>Gc</i> was identified in 86.0% of samples, <i>Px</i> in 14.0% samples, there was no mixed infection; prevalence of <i>Px</i> was recorded in South Slovakia and South Moravia, and on crops under cover. Since 1995 species <i>Px</i> was recorded each year on field crops in different locations of Bohemia and Moravia, usually in mixed infection with <i>Gc</i>. The average year temperature of 8.1°C for period 1992–2007 was higher than corresponding value of 7.4°C in 1979–1983. Similarly, average temperature in vegetation season of 16.2°C in 1992–2007 was higher than corresponding value of 15.7°C in 1979–1983. The higher air temperature can positively influence spreading of <i>Px</i> in the Czech Republic. Climate variability and effect of their changes are discussed in relationship to the geographic distribution and geographic patterns of cucurbit powdery mildews.

Norway spruce yellowing and defoliation caused by Mg deficiency was frequently recorded on many sites of the &Scaron;umava Mts. (Bohemian Forest Mts.) since 1980&rsquo;s. A forest experiment aimed at investigation response of spruce to Mg application (commercial fertilizer SILVAMIX<sup>&reg;</sup> Mg NPK) was set up in 1998. Fertilizer was applied manually in a dose of 96.5 kg Mg/ha in spruce (S) and beech-spruce (BS) vegetation altitudinal zones in spring 2000. Immediate decrease of yellowing was revealed in fertilized plots in both vegetation zones and yellowing almost completely disappeared at the end of the investigation in 2005. Further, fertilization resulted in stabile foliation while marked defoliation was reported from control plots in both vegetation zones. Mg deficiency can be effectively eliminated by appropriate fertilizer application. Balanced nutrition contributes to long-term vigour and stability of forest stands.

We report five alien ascidians with some distinct features that were investigated from August 2009 to October 2011 in Korea, among which Ascidiella aspersa (Müller, 1776) belonging to family Ascidiidae of order Phlebobranchia and Molgula manhattensis (De Kay, 1843) belonging to family Molgulidae of order Stolidobranchia are newly discovered invasive species. These ascidians were identified and their phylogenetic relationships were clarified through molecular analysis using about 680 bp of nuclear 18S rDNA and about 670 bp of mt-COI genes along with detailed morphological characteristics, and reported for the first time in Korea. It was discovered that A. aspersa was widespread three coastlines of Korea except Jeju Island, and M. manhattensis first found in Mokpo, Gunsan, and Incheon in June 2010 extended into Busan of Korea Strait in 2011.

The general objective of the study was to assess the main drivers for visiting the forest and the frequency of the visits in the Czech Republic. A nationwide collection of data of the sociological research as part of The Market & Media & Lifestyle Research Project was carried out every year in the Czech Republic under the licensed cooperation with Kantar Media. The project is unique by the large scope of the questions in the questionnaires and by the high number of respondents. A total of 8794 Czech inhabitants aged 12 years and above from all the regions were involved in the survey in 2018. Information about the socioeconomic and demographic characteristics of all the respondents were obtained. In the closed questions, the respondents reported the frequency of the forest visits and its drivers. The main driver for visiting the forest was just to go for a walk or just to enjoy the outdoors, especially during their holidays or weekends, amounting to 79% of the inhabitants. Meditation and relaxation as well as sport in the forest, were also considered as important motives for forest recreation. On the contrary, 95% of the visitors did not practice game hunting, although game has a long tradition in the Czech Republic. Improvement on managing the forest for recreation should focus on participatory forest management to find a consensus between the public and forest stakeholders. Common decisions may help set up forest recreational goals with positive impacts on forest ecosystem services.

Biodiversitas 21: 3929-3937. Bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc.) is a potential grain, which can be considered as an alternative source of protein and carbohydrate. Due to unavailability of commercial bambara groundut cultivar in Indonesia, the characterization of bambara groundnut landraces is an important step before developing cultivar with traits of interest. The objective of the research was to access genetic variability of Indonesian landraces of bambara groundnut with different seed coat colors based on morphological and molecular markers. The experiment was arranged as split-plot in a complete randomized block design with the main plot was cultivation methods and the sub plot was landraces. There were differences in leaf shape and pod shape among the landraces. There were two main clusters of Indonesian landraces of bambara groundnut with 88.28% similarity. The first cluster was Cream, Brown Sumedang, Black Sumedang and Black Tasikmalaya, and the second cluster was Black Sukabumi, Brown Gresik, Black Madura, and Black Gresik. The result based on SSR marker with capillary electrophoresis indicated Black Gresik and Black Madura landraces were different from other Indonesian landraces.  Cream Sumedang or Brown Sumedang from the first cluster and Black Gresik or Brown Gresik from the second cluster have the farthest distances for developing improved variety of bambara groundnut.

Hemoglobin (Hb) Lepore is composed of two normalαchains and twoδβfusion globins that arise from unequal crossover events between theδ- andβ-globin genes. The Hb Lepore is widespread all over the world and in many ethnic groups. It includes some of the few clinically significant Hb variants that are associated with aβ-thalassemia phenotype. Here, we describe the first occurrence of Hb Lepore Boston Washington in a Syrian individual. The patient, a 10-year-old child, shows severe anemia with a Hb level of 6.85 g/dL and typical thalassemic red cell indices. The diagnostic procedure implies hematological, biochemical, and molecular analysis, including multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) assay, GAP-PCR, and DNA sequencing. This latter allowed us to define the correct structure of the hybridδβ-globin gene. The knowledge of the spectrum of mutations associated with different geographical areas is the prerequisite to set up large-scale screening programs and be able to offer genetic counseling to couples at risk.

Femtosecond laser micromachining technology shows abroad application background in the field of micro manufacturing due to its unique advantages, especially for micromachining of ultrahard materials such as Silicon carbide (SiC) ceramic. The femtosecond laser micromachining system was set up, by using the system, effects of scanning velocity and laser pulse energy on quality of micromachined features were evaluated. The optimized technological parameter was obtained as 8mW, 1mm/s with 1kHz repetition frequency respectively on the basis of the morphological characteristics and microstructure accuracy. Besides, V-shaped cavity of 300μm depth and 120°angle was generated with layer-by-layer scan machining. Thus femtosecond laser micromachining technology is an effective method for hard and brittle materials precision processing.

A trial involving the mass propagation of Argania spinosa cuttings was established following two protocols: in mini-bouturathèques without mist and in a greenhouse under mist. Symptoms of petiole necrosis, foliar yellowing and abundant black acervuli were observed under both protocols. These symptoms were responsible for a 90% mortality rate in the mini-bouturathèques while under the mist treatment premature fatal necrosis of the apical buds resulted in 100% mortality. The disease’s causal agent, Pestalotiopsis clavispora, was identified on the basis of its morphological characteristics and by molecular analysis. Alternating weekly treatments of systemic and contact fungicides resulted in a 41% success rate in controlling this pathogen, described for the first time on argan cuttings.
