In the framework of Colombia’s peace process, we explore the moral disengagement in the attitudes of Colombians from Cali towards the first version of the Peace Accords. To achieve this, we conducted 12 in-depth interviews with emerging adults. Participant characteristics considered in the study include how they voted in the 2016 peace referendum, age, sex, socioeconomic status and educational level. The transcripts were analyzed through a content analysis applying consensual qualitative research (CQR) guidelines and considering the identity markers mentioned above. The results show that most participants’ discourse presented moral disengagement mechanisms. However, the morality in their attitudes is not adequately comprehended by only analyzing traces of moral disengagement. Other moral elements must be considered, especially since morality appears to be an important aspect of the participants’ attitudes towards topics related to the peace accords. Social implications are discussed.

With the recent evolution of the labor market, emerging adults with no diploma are particularly exposed to unsatisfying jobs and barriers to access decent work. The aim of the research was to identify their representations of work, based on the psychology of emerging adulthood and the psychology of working theory. Differences related to each country’s level of development and to the work situations met by the participants were expected. Ten emerging adults aged 20–25 were interviewed in seven countries ( N = 70). Data were processed using a thematic content analysis. The results stress that these emerging adults associate “decent work” with two specific qualities: the extent to which work allows survival needs to be met and the experience of positive social relationships in the workplace. This article discusses the similarities and differences in their representations of work and their role on identity development.

This article has two objectives. The first is to study the concepts of Competitive Intelligence and Dynamic Capabilities, aiming to verify if the stages of the competitive intelligence cycle can constitute stimulating elements for Dynamic Capabilities in organizations. The second goal is to understand how the competitive intelligence process is dealt with in medium- and large-sized companies in Brazil, grounded on opinions by specialists on the topic (scholars, researchers and consultants). For its consecution, besides the literature review on the subject, information was collected by means of in-depth interviews and, seeking triangulation of data, a comparative research was conducted on similar studies. It is a qualitative research that applies content analysis as its technique for investigation. The study supports that the routines in the stages of the competitive intelligence cycle and the abilities required for its operationalization foster the mobilization of Dynamic Capabilities in organizations. Competitive Intelligence, through a suitable development of the activities established in its phases, promotes the perception for change (sensing) and provides the necessary intelligence for the acquiring of the knowledge which will be the foundation for action (seizing), thus contributing for the continuous reinvention of the business (transforming). On the other hand, evidences suggest that Competitive Intelligence practices are still in their embryonic stages of application in Brazilian companies, and therefore need efforts for further qualification and consolidation.

Iran has experienced a significant decline in the fertility rate over the past decades. One of the principal reasons for this decline is decreased willingness to bear children, especially in the highly educated couples subset. For that reason, developing and implementing a successful population policy is essential to increase fertility in this subpopulation. The study aimed at explaining the unwillingness to bear children in this subgroup. The qualitative research was conducted using a content analysis approach based on the data acquired using in-depth and semi-structured interviews with couples with an educational level of master’s and above, and without children or having one child. In this study, in total, 40 couples (40 women and 40 men) were interviewed. Of the participants, 57.5% had one child. Four main themes were developed using conventional content analysis: rationality and awareness, gender equality and willingness to bear children, cultural and social renovation, and concern about the child’s future. The results indicated that different factors such as economic, social, and cultural reasons and less hope in the future affect unwillingness to bear children in highly educated couples. Taking into account, these factors are essential at the time of development and implementation of pro-natalist policies.

Abstract This article seeks to understand how femininity is understood by organizations from the perspective of masculine homosexuals, with a special focus on the concept of Ableism. In this qualitative research, data was collected through in-depth interviews with 13 masculine homosexuals living in the state of Rio de Janeiro and the corpus was analysed using Content Analysis (Bardin, 2009). Our field research showed that effeminate gays and women are considered to be inferior to those people with heteromasculine behavior. In this context, femininity within the organizational environment is considered as a deficiency, and those who have this deficiency are excluded from this environment or encouraged to overcome this deficiency.

Shariah mandates the criteria of kifāyah and ma’rūf in assessing maintenance for wives and children; however, these criteria currently require assesment and evaluation as maintenance is mostly influenced by society’s practices and by socioeconomic status. Consequently, Malaysia’s Islamic Family Law (Federal Territory) Act 1984 presribes that the maintenance assesment for wives and children must be based on the means (ma’rūf)  and needs (kifāyah) of the parties. However, this provision is too general and there is no clear explanation of what constitutes these criteria for the parties. This provision has troubled some parties as it leaves the determination of the maintenance rate to a judge’s discretion regarding both criteria. This study, with a methodology of content analysis and in-depth interviews, determines an assessment formula for both criteria in assessing child maintenance.

Relational skills gained through forming committed romantic partnerships in emerging adulthood (ages 18–29) provide the foundation for sustained intimacy in later adult relationships. Commitment is a crucial relational factor affecting the quality and longevity of romantic relationships. This qualitative study examined the meaning, expectations, and formation of commitment in romantic relationships among 29 emerging adults using consensual qualitative research methodology. Four categories pertaining to commitment were identified: (a) meaning of commitment; (b) expectations of a committed romantic relationship; (c) considerations made prior to commitment; and (d) experience with commitment talk. Though the majority of the participants could readily identify meanings and expectations of a committed romantic relationship, they hesitated to communicate their desire with their partners. Clinical implications are discussed.

Brazil and Portugal have different working contexts. In Brazil, mixed formal and informal ways dominate, while in Portugal, formal working contexts prevail. By means of in-depth interviews, this study sought to understand and compare the perception of decent work and future among 32 low-qualified emerging adults in Brazil and Portugal. The data from participants’ interviews were analyzed using Consensual Qualitative Research. Findings showed that Portuguese participants sought the International Labour Organization’s features for a decent work associated with fair income, social integration, self-realization at work, and family support, while the Brazilian sample had searched for better living conditions, respect, social recognition, and social protection. Thus, in contexts of greater vulnerability, the participants do not perceive their work as a source for self-determination and social recognition. This is a key point for understanding identity construction and life narratives of emerging adults in vulnerable working situations.

The purpose of this study was to understand perceptions and attitudes of tourism communities towards halal tourism terminology and the development of tourism based on local wisdom. This research adopted qualitative research and was conducted in Lombok. Data was collected in three main tourist destinations including Kuta, Senggigi and Gili Trawangan, therough in-depth interviews and observations, and was analysed using content analysis. The results indicate that tourism businessmen and foreign tourists have a good perception towards the concept of halal tourism and support the development of tourism based on local wisdom. Yet, both informant groups have different opinion towards the use of “halal tourism” as a terminology to promote halal tourism products. Therefore, a systematic socialization on halal tourism is needed to develop consensus among all tourism stakeholders. Keywords: Halal Tourism, Perception, Local Wisdom, Consensus, tourism communities
