The objectives of this investigation were to design and develop an experimental turbocharger test rig (TTR) to measure the shaft whirl of the rotating assembly and the axial and frictional loads experienced by the bearings. The TTR contains a ball bearing turbocharger (TC) that was instrumented and operated under various test conditions up to 55,000 rpm. In order to measure the thrust loads on the compressor and turbine sides, customized sensors were integrated into the TC housing. The anti-rotation (AR) pin that normally prevents the bearing cartridge from rotating was replaced with a custom-made load cell adapter system. This sensor was used to measure the frictional losses in the bearing cartridge without altering the operation of the TC. Proximity sensors (probes) were also installed in the compressor housing to monitor shaft whirl. Axial load results indicated that the compressor side bears most of the thrust load. As the backpressure or the speed of the TC was increased, the thrust load also increased. Frictional measurements from the AR pin sensor demonstrated low power losses in the ball bearing cartridge. For certain shaft speed ranges, the data from the sensors illustrated periodic trends in response to the subsynchronous whirl of the shaft.

Abstract: 7 square steel tubular columns were tested to discuss the ultimate axial bearing capacity, ductility performance and the steel consumption under stiffened by steel belts and binding bars of different cross-sections. Test results indicate that only by increasing fewer amounts of steel usage, stiffened square CFST columns with binding bars can not only improve the overall effects of restraint and alleviate regional local buckling between the binding bars, but also improve the bearing capacity of concrete filled square steel tubular columns. The utility benefits and the economical benefit is considerable, deserving extensive use.

Steam-injected gas turbines have a multitude of advantages, but they suffer from the inability to recover precious demineralized water. The present paper describes the test conditions and results of steam injection along with an attempt to achieve water recovery, which were obtained through a series of tests conducted on a S1A-02 small-sized industrial gas turbine. A water recovery device incorporating a compact finned spiral plate cooling condenser equipped with filter screens has been designed for the said gas turbine and a 100% water recovery (based on the design point) was attained.

For industrial roller or bush chains, the bush swings relative to the pin at working condition. If proper lubrication is maintained, an elastohydrodynamic lubrication contact is formed between the pin and the bush. In this study, a custom-made pin was used to replace the steel ball of a ball-disk test rig and optical interferometric experiments were carried out to study the effect of pin generatrix on the lubrication performance. The effects of generatrix shape, stroke length and oil supply condition on the lubrication state were explored. It is found that the change of the generatrix has an important influence on the oil film thickness, especially under rare oil supply condition.
