A study is made of the behaviour of open web steel joists having both top and bottom chords connected to a column when the end is subjected to negative bending moments. Six tests are described, three of which examine the behaviour with typical standard connections as detailed and supplied by manufacturers; the other three involve modifications to these connections in an attempt to minimize connection eccentricity. It is shown that the eccentricities inherent in the standard connections examined can have a significant influence on the behaviour and strength of a joist, whereas if the eccentricities are eliminated, reasonably predictable behaviour, based upon the member resistances under axial loads, can be achieved. These results are examined in relation to tie joists, which are designed to be simply supported under gravity load but have the bottom chord extended and attached to a column, and also in relation to joists designed as framing members.

This study aims to find out the effect of event and publicity towards brand awareness on Indonesia Financial Service Authority, usually called with its abbreviation OJK. The research background is because OJK was newly established as a financial service authority, replacing Bank Indonesia. Therefore, exploring the awareness of the people about the function of OJK is interesting to be a research subject. This method used in this study is the quantitative method with 82 samples as the questionnaire respondents. The population chosen was an OJK’s event held at LPPI and Indonesia Banking School with 122 participants. Validity, reliability, normality, multicollinearity, heteroskedasticity, correlation, determination, regression, hypothesis and ANOVA tests are used as a statistical approach in order to define the outcome of the survey. The results of this study are both event and publicity have a positive and a significant influence towards brand awareness partially and simultaneously. As the conclusion, OJK should continue its programs. On the other hand, OJK should find another public relations strategy to accelerate people awareness about the duties of OJK. Keywords: Event, Publicity, Brand Awareness

AbstractFor the purpose of identifying the key processes and sectors involved in the interaction between Earth and socio-economic systems, we review existing studies on those processes/sectors through which the climate impacts socio-economic systems, which then in turn affect the climate. For each process/sector, we review the direct physical and ecological impacts and, if available, the impact on the economy and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Based on this review, land sector is identified as the process with the most significant impact on GHG emissions, while labor productivity has the largest impact on the gross domestic product (GDP). On the other hand, the energy sector, due to the increase in the demand for cooling, will have increased GHG emissions. Water resources, sea level rise, natural disasters, ecosystem services, and diseases also show the potential to have a significant influence on GHG emissions and GDP, although for most of these, a large effect was reported only by a limited number of studies. As a result, more studies are required to verify their influence in terms of feedbacks to the climate. In addition, although the economic damage arising from migration and conflict is uncertain, they should be treated as potentially damaging processes.

The problem of large deflection of a rectangular plate resting on a Pasternak-type foundation and subjected to a uniform lateral load has been investigated by utilizing the linearized equation of plates due to H. M. Berger. The solutions derived and based on the effect of the two base parameters have been carried to practical conclusions by presenting graphs for bending moments and shear forces for a square plate with all edges simply supported.

Zinc and its alloys seem to be promising candidates for biodegradable applications. Those materials are often modified by other elements or compounds in order to enhance their properties. The combination of zinc and apatites is challenging for several reasons. However, the advantages connected with the biological aspects suggest the need for further research into such materials. In this study, three zinc-based composites with 4 and 8 wt. % of nanohydroxyapatite or nanomonetite (Zn-4MO, Zn-4HA, Zn-8HA) were prepared by sintering and subsequent extrusion. Materials prepared in this way were characterized from the microstructural, mechanical and corrosion point of view. The obtained results showed a significant influence of particle character (amount and morphology) on the strength and ductility of the prepared materials. In case of Zn-4MO, the presence of monetite significantly increased the ductility compared with the other materials. In addition, the increment of the degradation rate caused by the presence of monetite was observed as well. All obtained results pointed out to significant advantages of monetite for the preparation of Zn-apatite composites compared with hydroxyapatite.

Beside the residual stresses and axial loads, other factors of pipe like ovality, moment could also bring a significant influence on pipe deformation under external pressure. The Standard of API-5C3 has discussed the influences of deformation caused by yield strength of pipe, pipe diameter and pipe thickness, but the factor of ovality degree is not included. Experiments and numerical simulations show that with the increasing of pipe ovality degree, the anti-deformation capability under external pressure will become lower, and ovality affecting the stability of pipe shape under external pressure is significant. So it could be a path to find out the mechanics relationship between ovality and pipe deformation under external pressure by the methods of numerical simulations and theoretical analysis.

AbstractAnalytical Strip Method is presented for the analysis of the bending-extension coupling problem of stiffened and continuous antisymmetric thin laminates. A system of three equations of equilibrium, governing the general response of antisymmetric laminates, is reduced to a single eighth-order partial differential equation (PDE) in terms of a displacement function. The PDE is then solved in a single series form to determine the displacement response of antisymmetric cross-ply and angle-ply laminates. The solution is applicable to rectangular laminates with two opposite edges simply supported and the other edges being free, clamped, simply supported, isotropic beam supports, or point supports.

<p>The Von Mises, Monocontentio and Bicontentio footbridges are three parameterized metal bridge whose main structural characteristics are their variable depth depending on the applied stress and the embedding of abutments. Its use is considered suitable for symmetrical or asymmetrical topographies with slopes or vertical walls on one or both edges. The footbridges include spans spaced apart by 20 to 66 meters, and are between 2 to 4.5 meters wide.</p><p>Its design is based on five basic concepts: integration in the geometry of the environment; continuous search for simplicity; design based on a geometry that emanates from structural behavior; unitary and round forms; and long- lasting details.</p><p>The structural behavior of these prototypes has been compared with three types of constant-depth metal beams: the bridge simply supported, and the bridge embedded on one or both sides.</p><p>The embedding of abutments, and the adoption of a variation of depth adapted to the bending moments diagrams, allow for more efficient and elegant forms which are well-adapted to the boundary conditions.</p>

In this chapter the author demonstrates that while the Oxford Movement was an English development, it also exercised a significant influence upon the other nations within the United Kingdom. In Ireland and Wales, where the established United Church of England and Ireland held the allegiance of only a minority of the population, small but influential groups of High Churchmen embraced Tractarian principles as a form of Church defence. In Scotland, Tractarian principles contributed to the modest revival of the small Scottish Episcopal Church, and also had unexpected consequences in promoting a Scoto-Catholic movement within the late nineteenth-century established Presbyterian Church of Scotland.

The large deflections of a simply supported beam, one end of which is free to move horizontally while the other is subjected to a moment, are investigated by means of inextensional elastica theory. The linear theory is found to be valid for relatively large angles of rotation of the loaded end. The beam becomes transitionally unstable, however, at a critical value of the bending moment parameter MIL/EI equal to 5.284. If the angle of rotation is controlled, the beam is found to become unstable when the rotation is 222.65 deg.

The structural designs of floors formed by hollow core slabs usually consider these as simply-supported slabs. In recent years there have been project changes and hollow core slabs with continuity are widely used. The objective of this study is to suggest a way to calculate the reinforcement bars to be used in tests with continuity provided by a structural topping. Thus, this paper presents a method based on the maximum positive resistance moment and maximum shear strength of a hollow core slab. The method is applied to a test in hollow core slab specimens which have the following dimensions: 2 m width, 6 m long, and 21 cm high. The results indicated that the method was satisfactory to the performed test, and can therefore be applied to the other test configurations or even designs.
