Matching Subscription Over Geo-textual Streams from IoT via Social-Aware Clustering and Apache Flink

Current location-based services (LBS) continuously generate a massive amount of geo-message streams. The cluster-based subscription matching method is an effective means to feed subscribers with related geo-messages from geo-message streaming. However, current cluster-based subscription matching methods only consider the spatial relationship and textual relationship and ignore users’ social relationship. As a result, the matching results may not completely satisfy the requirements of users. In this paper, we proposed a social-aware subscription matching method by taking spatial, textual, and social factors into consideration. Then, we used a cache strategy and a Flink-based acceleration process to reduce the extra time overhead caused by computing the social relationships. A set of extensive experiments have been conducted on a real dataset. The experimental results indicate that our method improves the recall of matching results. Besides, the Flink-based acceleration process with caching can speed up the subscription matching process by a ratio of up to 3.299 compared with the state-of-the-art.

needs a solid validation that has verification and matching uploaded images. To solve this problem, this paper implementing a detection model using Faster R-CNN and a matching method using ORB (Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF) and KNN-BFM (K-Nearest Neighbor Brute Force Matcher). The goal of the implementations is to reach both an 80% mark of accuracy and prove matching using ORB only can be a replaced OCR technique. The implementation accuracy results in the detection model reach mAP (Mean Average Precision) of 94%. But, the matching process only achieves an accuracy of 43,46%. The matching process using only image feature matching underperforms the previous OCR technique but improves processing time from 4510ms to 60m). Image matching accuracy has proven to increase by using a high-quality dan high quantity dataset, extracting features on the important area of EKTP card images.

In the process of selecting Indonesian Workers (TKI) based on quality at PT. Adila Prezkifarindo Duta is classified as still manual, where there is not yet a system for selecting quality migrant workers so it requires a long time for its assessment and the selection process is less effective. To support decision making in the selection of qualified Indonesian Workers (TKI) to make it easier by using a decision support system. One method used in the selection of qualified Indonesian Workers is the Profile Matching method. The profile matching method is a decision-making mechanism by assuming that there is an ideal level of predictor variables that must be met by applicants, rather than the minimum level that must be met or passed. In the profile matching process a process will be compared between individual competencies into standard competencies so that different competencies can be identified (also called Gap). The smaller the gap produced, the greater the weight value. In matching this profile, the selected TKI candidates are Indonesian Workers who are closest to the ideal profile of a qualified TKI.

Location-based services (LBS) assist people in decision-making during the performance of tasks in space and time. Current LBS support spatial and attribute queries, such as finding the nearest Italian restaurant from the current location of the user, but they are limited in their capacity to evaluate decision alternatives and to consider individual decision-makers’ user preferences. We suggest that LBS should provide personalized spatial decision support to their users. In a prototype implementation, we demonstrate how user preferences can be translated into parameters of a multi-criteria evaluation method. In particular, the Ordered Weighted Averaging (OWA) operator allows users to specify a personal decision strategy. A traveler scenario investigating the influence of different types of users and different decision strategies on the outcome of the analysis serves as a case study.

Abstract. When adopting the matching method of the least squares image based on object-patch to match tilted images, problems like the low degree of connection points for images with the discontinuity of depth or the discrepancy in elevation or low availability of aerotriangulation points would frequently appear. To address such problems, a tilted-image-matching algorithm based on an adaptive initial object-patch is proposed by this paper. By means of the existing initial values of the interior and exterior orientation elements of the tilted image and the information of object points generated in the matching process, the algorithm takes advantage of the method of multi-patch forward intersection and object variance partition so as to adaptively calculate the elevation of the object-patch and the initial value of the normal vector direction angle. Furthermore, this algorithm aims to solve the problem of difficulties in matching the tilted image with its corresponding points brought about by the low accuracy of the initial value of the tilted image when adopting the matching method of the least squares image based on object-patch to match the tilted image with high discrepancy in elevation. We adopt the algorithm as proposed in this paper and the least squares image matching method in which the initial state of the object-patch is horizontal to the object-patch respectively to conduct the verification process of comparing and matching two groups of tilted images. Finally, the effectiveness of the algorithm as proposed in this paper is verified by the testing results.

Among the social canids, howling is largely accepted as playing a role in territory maintenance. However, its role in communication within packs, such as announcing departures from den and rendezvous sites and coordinating reunions or movements, remains largely speculative. We report an observation where a radio-collared adult male Coyote (Canis latrans) and his mate seemed to summon two other Coyotes (presumed to be their offspring) from ~700 m away to join in the successful pursuit of an adult male White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus). Our observation suggests that Coyotes can use vocalization as an effective means of coordinating social activities such as the hunting of large prey.

We introduce a case-study agnostic framework for the application of citizen science in a sustainable development context. This framework is tested against an activity in two secondary schools in western Nepal. While the purpose of this activity is to generate locally relevant knowledge on the physical processes behind natural hazards, we concentrate here on its implementation, i.e., to obtain a better understanding of the dynamic of the activity and to learn how it should be implemented. We determined the social capital of secondary schools as a gateway to the local community: they provide a unique setting to bring different stakeholders together. We find that co-designing a teaching programme is an effective means of both complementing local curricula and ensuring continued buy-in of local stakeholders (i.e., teachers). Student engagement depends on the local relevance of teaching materials, with more holistic or global concepts, such as climate change of lesser importance. Our activity focused on rainfall, including student-led data collection. These rainfall data provide a very good fit to co-located rain gauge data, with an average difference on weekly readings of 11.8%, reducing to 8.3% when averaged over all student readings. The autonomous development of student-organized science clubs suggested that our original framework underestimated students' capacity to apply knowledge elsewhere creatively. These clubs may be used to obtain participant feedback to improve and tailor future activities. Quantitative assessment of long-term sustainability remains challenging, due in part to high levels of student turnover. We suggest that integrating scientists wherever possible within a school or local community has a direct and positive result on participant retention.

In this article, we propose a new indoor positioning algorithm using smartphones, where wireless signals and images are deeply combined together to improve the positioning performance. Our approach is based on the use of local binary patterns’ feature, which has the advantages of rotation invariance and scale invariance. Moreover, the term “uniform” are fundamental properties of local image textures and their occurrence histogram is proven to be a very powerful texture feature. Besides, the received signal strength acts as a reliable cue on a person’s identity. We first obtain a coarse-grained estimation based on the visualization of wireless signals, which are presented by a vector, making use of fingerprinting methods. Then, we perform a matching process to determine correspondences between two-dimensional pixels and three-dimensional points based on images collected by the smartphone. After being evaluated by experiments, our proposed method demonstrates that the combination of the visual and the wireless data significantly improves the positioning accuracy and robustness. It can be widely applied to smartphones to better analyze human behavior and offer high-accuracy indoor location–based services.

While the climate and earth scientists now launch the new theory of abrupt climate change with overwhelming evidence about CO2s and the positive feedback lopes from Arctic meltdown and methane emissions from permafrost, the UNFCCC does not speed up the implementation of its promised policies. The social sciences have yet to come up with management plans for global decarbonisation. Resilience is no longer an option when the tipping point is muck closer in time than earlier believed. The key nations are not taking steps towards the saving of mankind from run away global warming.

Location-based services are mobile applications that use a device’s location to provide relevant results. Spatial search applications are a popular subset of location-based services that enable people to search through their surrounding space to find nearby locations. This article examines spatial search applications through a framework that combines critical geography research with research on the power search engines exert over information visibility. The main argument of the article is that popular spatial search applications, such as Yelp, may subtly reproduce existing forms of spatial segregation by rendering certain location invisible through the mobile mapping interface.

Abstract Starting in January 2003, Germany implemented the first two so-called Hartz reforms, followed by the third and fourth packages of Hartz reforms in January 2004 and January 2005, respectively. The aim of these reforms was to accelerate labor market flows and reduce unemployment duration.Without attempting to evaluate the specific components of these Hartz reforms, this paper provides a first attempt to evaluate the overall effectiveness of the first two reform waves, Hartz I/II and III, in speeding up the matching process between unemployed and vacant jobs. The analysis is conceptually rooted in the flow-based view underlying the reforms, estimating the structural features of the matching process. The results indicate that the reforms indeed had an impact in making the labor market more dynamic and accelerating the matching process.
