In order to enhance the corrosion resistance of mooring chain, the composite coatings are carried out on the surface of 22MnCrNiMo steel for mooring chain by double-pulsed electrodeposition technology using centrifugal force in the rotating device. The microstructure and anti-corrosion performance of the composite coatings have been investigated experimentally. This paper mainly focuses on the experimental work to determine the structural characteristics and corrosion resistance of composite coatings in the presence of nano-SiC. The results show that the presence of nano-SiC has a significant effect on the preparation of composite coating during the process. The surface of the coating becomes compact and smooth at a moderate concentration of nano-SiC particles. Furthermore, the best corrosion resistance of the composite coatings can be obtained when the concentration of nano-SiC particles is 2.0[Formula: see text]g.L[Formula: see text] after salt spray treatment.

AbstractIn order to enhance the corrosion resistance of a drill pipe for an offshore platform, micro-arc oxidation (MAO) coatings were deposited on the surface of an aluminum alloy drill pipe by MAO technology. The microstructure and anticorrosion performance of the MAO coatings were investigated experimentally. This paper mainly focuses on the experimental work to determine the influence of cathode voltage on the structural characteristics and corrosion resistance of MAO coatings. The results show that the cathode voltage has a significant effect on the preparation of MAO coating during the process. The surface of the coating becomes more compact and smooth with the increase of the cathode voltage. Furthermore, the anticorrosion performance of MAO coatings can effectively be improved with the increase of cathode voltage.

AbstractElectroless nickel coating treatment improves the corrosion resistance of mild steel. This work aims at studying the corrosion behavior of electroless Ni-P/TiO2 composite and multilayer coatings applied to the mild steel substrate as their as-plated state and furnace annealed at various temperatures and compared both the coatings’ corrosion performance. The corrosion behavior of the deposits was evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization studies in 3.5 wt% sodium chloride solution. The results showed that the corrosion resistance of the multilayer coating was two times higher compared to the composite coatings. Further, the corrosion mechanism was discussed in terms of microstructure, phase transformation, grain size, and microstrain.

The results of accelerated climatic tests of composite polymer-containing coatings on the AMg3 aluminum alloy are presented in the paper. According to the results of the studies carried out, a positive effect of the penetrated composite material into the pores of a PEO-coating on the wettability and corrosion resistance of the test samples under conditions of long-term exposure to salt fog has been revealed. The highest corrosion resistance was demonstrated by samples with a fourfold (СС-4x) application of superdispersed polytetrafluoroethylene.

The addition of superelastic NiTi particles is a great benefit to the toughness of the Ni-P coating. Nonetheless, NiTi nanopowder costs 10 times more than Ti nanopowder. Therefore, in the present study, to reduce the cost, Ni-P-NiTi composite coatings were prepared on AISI 1018 steel substrates by the electroless incorporation of Ti nanoparticles into Ni-P followed by the annealing of Ni-P-Ti coatings. The effect of the formation of a superelastic NiTi phase on static and dynamic corrosion performance was investigated. It was found that the annealed Ni-P-Ti coating (i.e., Ni-P-NiTi coating) has much higher static corrosion resistance than the as-deposited Ni-P coating. The dynamic corrosion rates in the absence of abrasive particles are 10 times higher than the static corrosion rates of the coatings. The dynamic corrosion rates in the presence of abrasive particles are one order of magnitude higher than the dynamic corrosion rates in the absence of abrasive particles. The formation of a superelastic NiTi phase considerably improved the static and dynamic corrosion performance of the Ni-P coating. In the absence of abrasive particles under flowing condition, the dynamic corrosion resistance of the annealed Ni-P-Ti coating (i.e., Ni-P-NiTi coating) is 19 times higher than that of the as-deposited Ni-P coating. In the most aggressive environment (in the presence of abrasive particles), the dynamic corrosion resistance of the annealed Ni-P-Ti coating (i.e., Ni-P-NiTi coating) is four times higher than that of the as-deposited Ni-P coating. The annealed Ni-P-Ti coating (i.e., Ni-P-NiTi coating) can be used in applications where high corrosion resistance is required, especially in an extremely aggressive environment.

The purpose of this paper was to investigate the effect of Al2O3 and TiO2 nanoparticles contents on structural proporties, microhardness and corrosion resistance of Zn-Ni alloy coationg. Zn-Ni, Zn-Ni-Al2O3 and Zn-Ni-TiO2 composite coatings were electrodeposited on steel substrate by direct current in sulphate bath. The structure of the coatings was studied by X-ray diffration and by scaning electron miroscopy. The results showed the appearance of Ni5Zn21 phases and that the incrorporation of Al2O3 and TiO2 in the Zn-Ni coating refined the crystal grain size. The corrosion performance of coating in the 0.6M NaCl as a corrisive solution was investigated by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy EIS methods. It was found that the incorporation of nanoparticules in Zn-Ni alloy coating have better corrosion resistance and the values of Rct and Zw increase, while the values of Cdl decrease with increasing of nanoparticules.

As the increasing environmental awareness, to explore no-chromium passivation technique on galvanized Zn coatings becomes one of the most urgent affair. In this paper, one kind of silicate passivation technics was invented and by which method silicate conversion film on galvanized Zn coatings with satisfactory property was got. It is found that solution composition and operating conditions of passivation affect the property of conversion film markedly, and the optimal technics is: Na2SiO3 20 g/L, H2SO4 5 mL/L, HNO3 5 mL/L, H2O2 10 ml/L, pH 2.0, passivation time 20 s, temperature 25°C. The corrosion resistance of galvanized Zn coatings with different passivated method, including no passivated, Cr(VI) passivated, Cr(III) passivated and silicate passivated, were investigated by NSS test (5% Neutral Salt Spray). The silicate conversion film can keep no rust for 72 h and obviously shows the best property. All the results show that silicate passivation can provide galvanized Zn coatings superior anti-corrosion performance, so this new technics can replace the conventional chromate passivation technology to avoid the pollution of chromium and has a wider application in future.

This study aimed to understand the effect of a different binder on fundamental properties and corrosion behavior of WC based HVOF coatings. Three kinds of coatings, each with a different binder, were prepared using commercial feedstock powders, i.e. WC-12Co, WC-10Co4Cr and WC-12Ni. Micro Vickers hardness tester, XRD and SEM were used. The corrosion performance was evaluated using a salt spray tester. It was found that the WC-10Co4Cr coating showed the highest corrosion resistance and superior hardness comparable to the WC-12Co coating.

The possibility that various silane treatments may enhance the corrosion resistance of a magnesium alloy AZ31 with silane-modified acrylate interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) coating has been investigated. Potentiodynamic electrochemical tests and neutral salt spray test were applied to evaluate the corrosion performance of the alloy. The results show that silane film improves corrosion resistance of the AZ31 alloy with and without IPN coating. The silane-modified IPN coatings improved more than 4 orders of magnitude of the corrosion resistance of the substrate.
