Kal-1 is a polyherbal decoction of seven different natural ingredients, traditionally used in controlling sugar levels, inflammatory conditions particularly regulating metabolic and immunoinflammatory balance which are the major factors involved in obesity and related diseases. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effect of Kal-1 (an abbreviation derived from the procuring source) on diet-induced obesity and type II diabetes using C57BL/6J mice as a model. The present study was performed with two experimental groups involving obese and prediabetic mice as study animals. In one, the mice were fed on high-fat with increased sucrose diet, and different amounts (5, 20, and 75 μL) of Kal-1 were administered with monitoring of disease progression over a period of 21 weeks whereas in the second group the mice were first put on the same diet for 21 weeks and then treated with the same amounts of Kal-1. A significant reduction in body weight, fat pads, fasting blood glucose levels, insulin levels, biochemical parameters, immunological parameters, and an array of pro- and anticytokines was observed in obese and diabetic mice plus Kal-1 than control (lean) mice fed on normal diet. In conclusion, Kal-1 has immunomodulatory potential for diet-induced obesity and associated metabolic disorders.

Health status and micronutrient intake among vegetarian and non-vegetarian in BaliBackground: Several studies have reported that vegetarian diets have health benefits for those adopting the diets.Objective: This study aimed to compare anemia status and micronutrient intake between vegetarians and non-vegetarians in Bali.Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Bali. A total of 240 samples consisting of 160 vegetarians and 80 non-vegetarians were randomly selected. Hemoglobin (Hb) and fasting blood sugar levels were measured using the cyanmethemoglobin method and enzymatic colorimetric, respectively. Meanwhile, the data on micronutrient intakes were collected by interviews using the semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (SQFFQ). The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and the Mann-Whitney test was performed to analyze the differences.Results: The study’s results showed that the mean Hb levels in the vegetarian group were significantly lower than non-vegetarians (p=0.002; p<0.05), and the anemia status in vegetarian women were higher (22.5%) than non-vegetarian women (2.5%). The mean fasting blood glucose level in non-vegetarians was significantly higher than in the vegetarian group (p=0.000; p<0.05). There were no differences in zinc (Zn) intake between vegetarians and non-vegetarians, but there were significant differences (p<0.05) in vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin B12, folic acid, magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), and iron (Fe) intakes.Conclusions: There were differences in anemia status and fasting blood glucose levels between vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The fasting blood glucose levels of non-vegetarians were higher than vegetarians, and there were differences in the intake of certain micronutrients between vegetarians and non-vegetarians.

Background: The positive effects of blood glucose levels should be demonstrated in healthy or type 2 diabetic individuals who can be recommended to consume macronutrients (protein + fat) with carbohydrates. Therefore, at the end of the research planned with the amount of carbohydrates and fats that can be consumed in a meal, we aimed to recommend the consumption of food with high protein content egg together with the carbohydrate source. Methods: The study was carried out from Nov 2017 to Apr 2018 by looking at fasting blood glucose levels using feeding 2 different test foods on a minimum of 8 h of fasting in the Haliç University Sutluce Campus, Istanbul, Turkey. Before and after the carbohydrate and carbohydrate + protein source, blood glucose was measured from the fingertip for 3 days in 30 min, 60 min and 120 min periods. The average of 3 days was used in the analysis. Results: Blood glucose values were compared after individuals were given carbohydrate and carbohydrate + protein source. The mean blood glucose value 60 min after the carbohydrate administration was significantly higher than the average blood glucose value 60 min after the carbohydrate + protein administration (P= 0.006). Conclusion: A protein-containing diet positively affects the glycemia response and can recommend it. In individuals with diabetes, they should focus on the effects of proteins to achieve glycemia control.

AbstractThe molecular targets and mechanisms of propolis ameliorating metabolic syndrome are not fully understood. Here, we report that Brazilian green propolis reduces fasting blood glucose levels in obese mice by disrupting the formation of CREB/CRTC2 transcriptional complex, a key regulator of hepatic gluconeogenesis. Using a mammalian two-hybrid system based on CREB-CRTC2, we identify artepillin C (APC) from propolis as an inhibitor of CREB-CRTC2 interaction. Without apparent toxicity, APC protects mice from high fat diet-induced obesity, decreases fasting glucose levels, enhances insulin sensitivity and reduces lipid levels in the serum and liver by suppressing CREB/CRTC2-mediated both gluconeogenic and SREBP transcriptions. To develop more potential drugs from APC, we designed and found a novel compound, A57 that exhibits higher inhibitory activity on CREB-CRTC2 association and better capability of improving insulin sensitivity in obese animals, as compared with APC. In this work, our results indicate that CREB/CRTC2 is a suitable target for developing anti-metabolic syndrome drugs.

Introduction: Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death globally with an incidence of adolescents and young adults in Indonesia as many as 153.705 cases. Central obesity is associated with the risk of cardiovascular disease due to increase in fasting blood glucose levels, cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and blood pressure. Aims: to determine the correlation between waist circumference and fasting blood glucose levels, triglyceride levels, and blood pressure in young adults. Method: This analytic study with a cross-sectional approach involved 53 young adult subjects (18-25 years old). Waist circumference is measured using a tape measure. Blood sugar and triglyceride levels were measured using Cobas® 6000 analyzer machine from blood samples of subjects after fasting for 8-12 hours. Blood pressure data are obtained by measurement using aneroid sphygmomanometer. Results: In this study, the mean waist circumference of the research subjects was 77,4 cm. No correlation was found between waist circumference and fasting blood sugar levels (p = 0,159). However, a positive correlation was found between waist circumference and triglyceride levels (p = 0,008; r = 0,332), between waist circumference and systolic blood pressure (p = 0,049; r = 0,230), and between waist circumference and diastolic blood pressure (p = 0,017; r = 0,293). Conclusion: waist circumference is positively correlated with triglyceride levels and blood pressure, but does not correlate with fasting blood sugar levels.

Streptozotocin- (STZ-) induced type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) caused insulin secretion disorder and hyperglycemia, further causing tissue and organ damage. In recent years, studies on ginseng (Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer) and its saponins (Ginsenosides) have proved to possess antidiabetic pharmacological activities, but the mechanism of nonsaponins on STZ-induced T2DM is still unclear. Arginyl-fructosyl-glucose (AFG) is a representative nonsaponin component produced in the processing of red ginseng. The present study was designed to assess the possible healing consequence of AFG on STZ-induced T2DM in mice and also to explore its fundamental molecular contrivances. T2DM-related indexes, fasting blood glucose levels, and body weight, histological changes, biochemical considerations, biomarkers, the mRNA countenance intensities of inflammatory facts, and variations in correlated protein manifestation in adipose tissue and liver tissue were calculated. Consequences specified that AFG usage successfully amends STZ-induced insulin conflict and liver grievance in T2DM. Systematically, AFG action diminished STZ-induced oxidative stress and inflammatory responses in the liver. In addition, we demonstrated that AFG also attenuates apoptosis and insulin secretion disorders in T2DM by adjusting the PI3K/AKT/GSK3β signaling pathway. At the end, these discoveries recommend that AFG averts the development of T2DM through numerous types of machinery and proposes that AFG can also be used in order to treat T2DM in the future.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to study the association of deep fungal infection with glucose levels in critically ill intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Fasting blood glucose level was measured for 108 critically ill ICU patients in the morning. After analyzed according to the Spearman method found deep fungal infections in patients with the rise in blood glucose levels and the ratio increases, a positive correlation between the two. Deep infection in critically ill ICU patients and their blood glucose levels was closely related, and therefore, there should a focus on controlling blood sugar levels in patients.

Rheum palmatumhas been used most frequently in the weight-reducing formulae in traditional Chinese medicine. However, the components ofRheum palmatumthat play the antiobesity role are still uncertain. Here, we tested the weight-reducing effect of two majorRheum palmatumcompounds ondb/dbmouse. We found that rhein (100 mg kg−1 day−1), but not emodin, reduced the fat weight indb/dbmouse. Using diet-induced obese (DIO) C57BL/6 mice, we identified that rhein blocked high-fat diet-induced obesity, decreased fat mass and the size of white and brown adipocytes, and lowered serum cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and fasting blood glucose levels in the mice. To elucidate the underlying mechanisms, we used reporter assay and gene expression analysis and found that rhein inhibited peroxisome proliferator-activated receptorγ(PPARγ) transactivity and the expression of its target genes, suggesting that rhein may act as a PPARγantagonist. Our data indicate that rhein may be a promising choice for antiobesity therapy.

Blood glucose examination is needed as a diagnosis of Diabetes Mellitus disease. In a state of fasting no food is absorbed. The delay of examination causes glucose to be degraded and the value obtained is less than the value it should be. Anticoagulant NaF is used for the examination of blood glucose, because florida as antiglycolysis inhibits phosphoenol enzyme pyruvate and urease enzymes so that blood sugar levels are expected to be stable. This study aims to determine the difference of fasting blood glucose level of DMT2 patients in NaF plasma based on the examination time that is immediately checked and delayed 2 hours. It is pre experimental one group pretest-posttest design. Respondents were 30 patients with DMT2. Glucose levels were measured using NaF plasma which was promptly checked and delayed for 2 hours. The results of blood sugar levels immediately checked had an average value of 219.20 mg / dL and the average value of glucose with a delay of 2 hours was 210.67 mg / dL. The average difference of both is 8.53 mg / dL. The results of t test dependent show p <0.05 means there is a difference. Conclusion of this study there is a difference between fasting blood glucose levels in patients with DMT2 using plasma NaF based on inspection time. Glucose screening checks should be done directly without delay in order to obtain accurate examination results.
