Purpose. To assess the prognostic role of 14F7 Mab immunoreactivity, against N-Glycolyl GM3 ganglioside, in patients with colon cancer (CC) and to evaluate the relationship between its expression and clinicopathological features.Methods. Paraffin-embedded specimens were retrospectively collected from 50 patients with CC operated between 2004 and 2008. 14F7 Mab staining was determined by immunohistochemistry technique and its relation with survival and clinicopathologic features was evaluated.Results. The reactivity of 14F7 Mab was detected in all cases. Most cases had high level of immunostaining (70%) that showed statistical correlation with TNM stage(P=0.025). In univariate survival analysis, level of 14F7 Mab immunoreactivity(P=0.0078), TNM Stage(P=0.0007)and lymphovascular invasion(0.027)were significant prognostic factors for overall survival. Among these variables, level of 14F7 Mab immunoreactivity (HR=0.268; 95%  CI  0.078–0.920; P=0.036)and TNM stage(HR=0.249; 95%  CI   0.066–0.932; P=0.039)were independent prognostic factors on multivariate analysis.Conclusions. This study is the first approach on the prognostic significance of 14F7 Mab immunoreactivity in patients with colon adenocarcinoma and this assessment might be used in the prognostic estimate of CC, although further studies will be required to validate these findings.

Abstract INTRODUCTION Several publications have highlighted the importance of the peritumoral matrix in various epithelial tumors. Our team has pointed out the value of ColXIα1 in the stroma of breast, colon and pancreatic cancer. The possible prognostic factor of the stroma in colon cancer is debated. Our aim is to analyze the prognostic role of the stroma and ColXIα1 in colon adenocarcinoma. MATERIAL AND METHODS Samples of 189 patients with colon cancer were studied by image analysis. The matrix was stained with Gomori green trichrome and the CAFs with the mouse monoclonal anti-proColXIα1 antibody. The samples were evaluated with an optical microscope, obtaining data from the area stained with proColXIα1, the area stained with Gomori and the number of pro ColXIα1 positive cells. 35 Gb of images were analyzed with Image J-FIJI, which measures the number of cells and the total area of marked regions, and also quantifies the number and area of unlabeled cells. Statistical analysis by MedCalc v1o and SpSS v15. RESULTS Colon cancer stages (%): I, 13; II, 40; III, 29; IV, 18. Recurrences (%), 32; by stages: I, 0; II, 21; III, 44; IV, 86. Global survival: median, 28 months; S5, 33%. Total stromal cells, number of CAFs and its area: higher in early stages. Gomori area, smaller in early stages and in cases without recurrences. CONCLUSIONS The number of CAFs and the extension of the stromal area could have influence in the development of the cancer colon, and may be related to the prognosis of disease.

Based on a survey of 147 Chinese employees, we examined the relationship between perceived career plateau and turnover intention, and the moderating role of career anchor in challenge in this process. We hypothesized that perceived career plateau would be positively related to turnover intention, and that this relationship would be stronger in employees with a higher level of career anchor in challenge than in those with a lower level. The results showed that perceived career plateau had a strong positive relationship with turnover intention, especially in employees with a high level of career anchor in challenge. These findings have implications for research in career development and turnover intention, as well as in management practices.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of frontline service employees (FSEs) motivation (enjoyment of work and driven to work) and ability (customer service ability) in the relationship between TFL and employee service performance. Design/methodology/approach This is a survey-based study which involves 534 FSEs and 135 supervisors in a hair salon setting. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to test the proposed hypotheses. Findings Results show that TFL is significantly related to employee service performance; this relationship is enhanced with the presence of driven to work; yet, it is neutralized with the presence of enjoyment of work. Further, the three-way interaction of TFL, enjoyment of work and customer service ability as well as TFL driven to work, and customer service ability are negatively associated with employee service performance. Practical implications The results advance service managers’ understanding of the importance of FSEs motivation and ability if they are to fully reap the benefits from their FSEs. The role of leader is not always effective in all situations. FSEs with high level of enjoyment of work and customer service ability would least rely on the guidance and support from the supervisors. Originality/value This research is one of the first to examine the role of subordinate’s characteristics (motivation – enjoyment of work and driven to work and ability – customer service ability) as the key moderators in the relationship between TFL and employee service performance.

AbstractAdenocarcinoma of the colon is the fourth most common malignancy worldwide with significant rates of mortality. Hence, the identification of novel molecular biomarkers with prognostic significance is of particular importance for improvements in treatment and patient outcome. Clinical traits and RNA-Seq data of 551 patient samples and 18,205 genes in the UCSC Toil Recompute Compendium of TCGA TARGET and GTEx datasets (restricted to |Primary_site| = colon) were obtained from the Xena platform. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis was completed, and 24 unique modules were assembled to specifically examine the association between gene networks and cancer cell invasion. One module, containing 151 genes, was significantly correlated with lymphatic invasion, a histopathological feature of higher-risk colon cancer. Search tool for the retrieval of interacting genes/proteins (STRING) and gene ontology (GO) analyses identified the module to be enriched in genes related to cytoskeletal organization and apoptotic signaling, suggesting involvement in tumor cell survival and migration along with epithelial-mesenchymal transformation. Of genes that were differentially expressed and significant for overall survival, DAPK3 (death-associated protein kinase 3) was revealed as the pseudo-hub of the module. Although DAPK3 expression was reduced in colon cancer patients, survival analysis revealed that high expression of DAPK3 was significantly correlated with greater lymphovascular invasion and poor overall survival.

Abstract Background: LINC00634 is highly expressed in esophageal cancer, and its depletion can suppress the viability and induce the apoptosis of esophageal cancer cells. However, there is a lack of studies that examine the relationship between LINC00634 expression and the clinicopathological features, survival outcomes, prognostic factors and tumor immune cell infiltration of colorectal carcinoma (CRC) patients. Objective: We aim at investigating the role of LINC00634 in colorectal carcinoma. Methods: We obtained data from the TCGA (The Cancer Genome Atlas) public database, GTEx (Genotype-Tissue Expression) database and clinical samples. Wilcoxon rank-sum test, Kruskal-Wallis test and logistic regression analysis were employed to assess the relationship between LINC00634 expression and the clinicopathological characteristics of CRC patients. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was constructed to evaluate the ability of LINC00634 for distinguishing between CRC patients and normal subjects based on the area under the curve (AUC) score. Univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted to evaluate the association between prognostic factors and survival outcomes. Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox regression analysis were employed to determine the contribution of LINC00634 expression to the prognosis of colorectal carcinoma patients. Immune infiltration analysis and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) were conducted to identify the significantly involved functions of LINC00634. Finally, a nomogram was constructed for internal verification based on the Cox regression data. Results: The expression of LINC00634 was upregulated in CRC patients, and markedly associated with N stage, residual tumor, pathological stage, and overall survival (OS) event. ROC curve showed that LINC00634 had strong diagnostic and prognostic abilities (AUC=0.74). The high expression of LINC00634 could predict poor disease specific survival (DSS; P=0.008) and poor overroll survival (OS;P<0.01). The expression of LINC00634 was independently associated with OS in CRC patients (P=0.019). GSEA and immune infiltration analysis demonstrated that LINC00634 expression was involved in gene transcription, epigenetic regulation and the functions of certain types of immune infiltrating cells. The c-index of the nomogram was 0.772 (95%CI: 0.744-0.799).Conclusions: Our study reveals that LINC00634 can serve as a potential prognostic biomarker for CRC patients.

This study aims at investigating the relationship between cognitive biases and decision making from a sample of gifted secondary students. It also aims at identifying the level of students’ cognitive biases and decision making and the differences in these two areas based on different classrooms. Random sampling was used to collect data from 139 female secondary students from the gifted group. Their age ranged between (16-18) with an average of (16.6), A descriptive method was adopted in the study. The research tools used consisted of DACOBS David Assessment of Cognitive biases Scale (Vander Gaag. et al., 2000), translated and standardized by the present researchers, and Tuistra’s decision making scale for teenagers (Tuinstra, et al., 2000). The findings of the study show a negative correlation between cognitive biases and decision making. Also, there were no differences between cognitive biases and decision making scores based on different classrooms. The study also shows a low level of students’ cognitive biases and a high level of decision making. The study recommends activating the role of mentors and students' counseling, planning for the values and behaviors that need to be acquired by students by including them in the annual goals of the school administration and participating in societal awareness and education.

Abstract Background Lung cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most common type of lung cancer. Transducin-like Enhancer of split (TLE) family proteins repress transcription by multiple mechanisms. The prognostic role of TLEs in LUAD is still unclear. Methods We took TCGA dataset to analyze the relationship between the expression of TLEs and LUAD outcome. Results The expression of TLEs were different between 59 normal and 513 tumor samples. High TLE1 and low TLE2 were associated with poor PFS and OS (all p<0.050). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that high TLE1 and low TLE2 were independent risk factors. Moreover, the combination of TLE1 and TLE2 was a better tool in prognostication. Conclusions High TLE1 and low TLE2 expressions are independent adverse prognostic factors and can be used as prognostic biomarkers in LUAD.

The relationship between Advanced Information Technologies (AIT) and organization is complex. Several theories and approaches try to get grip on this complex relationship. Adaptive Structuration Theory (AST) (DeSanctis and Poole, 1994) is one of them. It introduces the concept of spirit of AIT as an important determinant of AIT appropriation. AIT with a clear, coherent spirit will lead to a high level of AIT appropriation. But what about the role of the internal organizational environment? Does this constrain or support the role of the AIT’s spirit regarding AIT appropriation? This paper presents a study that aims to find an answer to this question. Three hypotheses were formulated and tested in four offices where employees used office technologies. Results confirm that a clear spirit is positively related to the level of appropriation as distinguished by DeSanctis and Poole (1994) and Poole and DeSanctis (1990). The results also make clear that this relationship is more positive among users who experienced a low level of change in the internal organizational environment along with the office technology implementation than among users who experienced a high level of change. Furthermore, the relationship is more positive among users with a low level of work autonomy than among users with a high level of work autonomy. This is not fully in line with our expectations. However, we think an explanation is available. We suppose that the answer lies in the office technology development process. All office technologies in this study’s offices were probably developed without anticipating the changes that office technology implementations might bring about in the internal organizational environment and with the aim to build systems that “reconfirm” the current “restrictive” work procedures. This study’s results once again indicate that office technology and other organizational components are interrelated.
