Intensive and repetitive simulations are required to study static and dynamic behaviours of systems. Particular phenomena such as bifurcation and chaos require long simulation times and analysis. To check the existence of bifurcations and chaos in a dynamic system, a fine-tuning procedure of a bifurcation parameter is to be carried out. This increases considerably the computing time, and a great amount of patience is needed to obtain adequate results. Because of the high switching frequency of a boost inverter, the integration process of the dynamic model used to describe it uses an integration step that is in general less than one microsecond. This makes the integration process time consuming even for a short simulation. Thus, a fast, but accurate, method is suitable to analyse the dynamic behaviour of the converter. This work contains two topics. First, we develop a like-discrete integration process that permits precise results in a very fast manner. For one switching period, we compute only two or a maximum of three breaking points depending on whether we treat a continuous conduction mode (CCM) or a discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) of the inductor current. Furthermore, with each segment of the dynamic trajectory, an exact analytic formula is associated. The second goal is to use this result to develop a discrete iterative map formulated as in standard discrete time series models. The Jacobian matrix of the found iterative map is defined and used to compute Lyapunov exponents to prove existence of chaos. Performance of the developed study is positively evaluated by using classical simulations and fine-tuning a bifurcation parameter to detect chaos. This parameter is the desired reference of the inductor current peak. Results show that the proposed scheme is very fast and accurate. The study can be easily extended to other switching topologies of DC-DC inverters.

This paper presents the comparison of LED driver topologies that include SEPIC, CUK and FLYBACK DC-DC converters. Both topologies are designed for 8W power and operated in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) with 88 kHz switching frequency. Furthermore, inductors of SEPIC and CUK converters are wounded as coupled. Applications are realized by using SG3524 integrated circuit for open loop and PIC16F877 microcontroller for closed loop. Besides, ACS712 current sensor used to limit maximum LED current for closed loop applications. Finally, SEPIC, CUK and FLYBACK DC-DC LED drivers are compared with respect to LED current, LED voltage, input voltage and current. Also, advantages and disadvantages of all topologies are concluded.

The use of static frequency converters, which have a high switching frequency, generates voltage pulses with a high rate of change over time. In combination with cable and motor impedance, this generates repetitive overvoltage at the motor terminals, influencing the occurrence of partial discharges between conductors, causing degradation of the insulation of electric motors. Understanding the effects resulting from the frequency converter–electric motor interaction is essential for developing and implementing insulation systems with characteristics that support the most diverse applications, have an operating life under economically viable conditions, and promote energy efficiency. With this objective, a search was carried out in three recognized databases. Duplicate articles were eliminated, resulting in 1069 articles, which were systematically categorized and reviewed, resulting in 481 articles discussing the causes of degradation in the insulation of electric motors powered by frequency converters. A bibliographic portfolio was built and evaluated, with 230 articles that present results on the factors that can be used in estimating the life span of electric motor insulation. In this structure, the historical evolution of the collected information, the authors who conducted the most research on the theme, and the relevance of the knowledge presented in the works were considered.

Silicon Carbide (SiC) based MOS devices are one of the promising devices for high temperature, high switching frequency and high power applications. In this paper, the static and dynamic characteristics of an asymmetric trench gate SiC IGBT with high-k dielectrics- HfO2 and ZrO2 are investigated. SiC IGBT with HfO2 and ZrO2 exhibited higher forward transconductance ratio and lower threshold voltage compared to conventionally used SiO2. In addition, lower switching power losses have been observed in the case of high-k dielectrics due to reduced tail current duration.

In order to implement a high-efficiency bridgeless power factor correction converter, a new topology and operation principles of continuous conduction mode (CCM) and DC steady-state character of the converter are analyzed, which show that the converter not only has bipolar-gain characteristic but also has the same characteristic as the traditional Boost converter, while the voltage transfer ratio is not related with the resonant branch parameters and switching frequency. Based on the above topology, a novel bridgeless Bipolar-Gain Pseudo-Boost PFC converter is proposed. With this converter, the diode rectifier bridge of traditional AC-DC converter is eliminated, and zero-current switching of fast recovery diode is achieved. Thus, the efficiency is improved. Next, we also propose the one-cycle control policy of this converter. Finally, experiments are provided to verify the accuracy and feasibility of the proposed converter.
