In recent years, patients’ expectations are becoming higher in terms of esthetic dentistry. Having the ideal smile is becoming a purpose as the appearance of stars and famous persons have been undoubtedly improved through smile correction. Peg-shaped lateral incisors are a common dental form aberration which could distort the smile and may hamper patient psychology because of the smaller shape and size in disharmony with other teeth. Three-quarter ceramic veneers are a mini-invasive approach which could solve the esthetic problem of peg-shaped teeth and ensure patient’s satisfaction. The present paper was about a clinical case with peg-shaped lateral incisors treated with three-quarter ceramic crowns. It would also highlight the preparation particularities.

SUMMARY The rehabilitation of an unesthetic smile in the anterior maxilla is always a clinical challenge, especially when an improper shape and size, old restorations, and unesthetic shading are present. In addition, an irregular gingival zenith contour in the anterior maxilla can affect the smile's harmony. Thus, detailed treatment planning is needed to define a functional and esthetic prosthetic rehabilitation. This study describes a clinical case in which a 55-year-old woman was rehabilitated using Digital Smile Design planning and full ceramic crowns (metal free) in the anterior zone of the maxilla and mandible. To normalize the gingival zenith, a dynamic compression technique was performed using provisional restorations to condition the gingival tissues and harmonize the proportional length of the anterior upper teeth.

Summary Background: This article is focused on the use of polymerized, prefabricated nano-hybrid-composite veneers to close diastema and to regain a vitality appearance of non vital discolored teeth. Case Reports: A 24-year old patient presented herself with a major complaint about the discoloration of her maxillary central incisors. The prefabricated composite veneers were recommended as the perfect solution in this case. Tooth shape and size was evaluated with the contour guide. Two pre-fabricated composite veneers size “M” were trimmed and cemented with the same hybrid composite resin that they were made from. A 28 year-old patient presented herself with a major complaint about her diastema. Her maxillary frontal teeth were intact. It was decided to use two veneers; size “L” and shade A2/B2 and Enamel Universal were chosen. Identical steps were followed as in clinical case 2. Conclusion: This new technique of treatment resulted to be an affordable way to regain esthetics. It is a one session treatment and requires no lab sessions, which makes it very comfortable for both dentist and patients. As with all new techniques, there is still a lot to be done, to confirm its effectiveness as a long term solution in esthetic dentistry.

Purpose: The purpose of this in vivo study was to investigate whether the less invasive approach (reduced thickness of the restoration) will result in a comparable risk of failure and similar aesthetic results, compared to conventional layered full porcelain crowns, and can, therefore, be used as a good alternative. Material and Methods: The tested ceramic was lithium-disilicate ceramic (IPS e.max). Forty-four patients with endodontically treated premolars or molars were randomized into two groups and provided with single crowns. One group received conventional all-ceramic crowns made from a lithium-disilicate core and hand-veneered aesthetic ceramic, while another group received full-contoured lithium-disilicate ceramic crowns with reduced wall thickness than manufactures recommendations. The teeth for conventional crowns were prepared with 1 mm rounded shoulder and 2 mm occlusal reduction, while teeth for monolithic crowns were prepared with 0.6 mm wide rounded shoulder and 1 mm occlusal reduction. All crowns were prepared by the same clinician and manufactured in the same laboratory by the same technician. The survival and aesthetics of the crowns were assessed by the independent clinician. Apart from this, patients’ aesthetic satisfaction was evaluated. The assessment was double blind as both the examiner and the patients did not know which type of crown was provided. The observation period was 36 months. Survival of the crowns was assessed using the modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria and aesthetics and participants’ aesthetic satisfaction with the crowns was evaluated using a visual analogue scale. Results: The one-year survival rate for layered crowns was 100% and for monolithic crowns 95.5%. The median patients’ aesthetic satisfaction with both crowns was 100%. Conclusions: The results indicate similar one-year survival rate of reduced-thickness monolithic lithium-disilicate crowns and conventional veneered crowns. Differences with patients’ satisfaction with the aesthetics of both crowns were not statistically significant and it can be said that the patients’ aesthetic satisfaction was the same for both crowns.

Body dissatisfaction and dietary restraint have been demonstrated in children as young as 5 years. Internalization of a thin-ideal is theorized to occur before the onset of body dissatisfaction and both have the potential to influence self-worth and impact multiple aspects of life. Across childhood, body dissatisfaction tends to increase while there is a parallel decline in positive self-concepts. Social comparisons also become more critical after the age of 7 years. Research suggests that early childhood (aged 3–8 years) may be the ideal time to expose children to content that counters unhealthy, unrealistic media ideals about body shape and size. This Practice Note describes the process of creating an evidence-based online storybook, Tiny or Tall, Mighty or Small—Music for All!, written to promote positive body image in children. Multiple steps were taken to complete this project, which required collaboration among experts across fields of public health, children’s literature, and music. The storybook can be downloaded as a PDF file for free, online, and integrates sound clips for each instrument to more fully engage readers. We hope that this electronic platform overcomes potential logistical and financial barriers of accessing a print copy and therefore allows the message of body positivity to reach a wider audience.

Abstract In the last years the focus in dentistry has shifted to an "esthetic dentistry" approach, where patients are concerned about reaching a better look of their teeth. Vital tooth bleaching is a technique with immediate results, which improves the appearance and patient's self-esteem. The aim of this study was to recognize personality characteristics determined by the Millon Index of Personality Styles of participants looking for tooth bleaching and to correlate them to satisfaction with the treatment. Forty participants were included and filled out the Millon Index of Personality Styles form before treatment. Expectation about tooth bleaching was quantified from 1 to 5. Patients were treated with bleaching agent according to manufacturer's directions. One week after treatment, the patient's satisfaction was quantified from 1 to 5. Prevailing personality characteristics were determined. Expectations and satisfaction values of all patients were correlated with each of the presented personality scales by Spearman Rho test. Ten scales prevailed over their counterpart. Median of patient's expectation was 2 and satisfaction 4. Only the score of a single characteristic (extraversing) showed statistically significant correlation with patient satisfaction. Patients looking for tooth bleaching treatment seem to have common personality characteristics. Almost all of them wanted to achieve a moderate change in teeth color and the result of the treatment was usually satisfactory

Abstract BACKGROUND Access to the jugular foramen (JF) requires extensive approaches. An endoscopic endonasal far medial (EEFM) approach combined with a postauricular transtemporal (PTT) approach may provide adequate exposure with limited morbidities. OBJECTIVE To provide a quantitative anatomic comparison of the EEFM, the PTT, and the combined EEFM/PTT approaches. A clinical case of the combined approach is presented. METHODS Five cadaveric heads were dissected. Each specimen received PTT and EEFM approaches on opposite sides followed by an EEFM approach on the side of the PTT approach. Morphometric and quadrant analyses were conducted. Three groups were obtained and compared: PTT (group A), EEFM (group B), and combined (group C). RESULTS Group B had a significantly higher area of exposure of the JF as compared to group A (112.3 and 225 mm2, respectively, P = .004). The average degree of freedom (DOF) in the cranio-caudal plane for groups A and B was 63.6 and 12.6 degrees, respectively (P < .00001). Group A had a higher DOF in the medial-lateral plane than group B (49 vs 13.4 degrees, respectively, P < .00001. The average volume of exposure in groups A and B was 1469.2 and 1897.4 mm3, respectively (P = .02). By adding an EEFM approach to the PTT approach, an additional 56.1% of the anterior quadrant was exposed, representing a 584.4% increase in the anterior exposure. CONCLUSION The PTT and EEFM approaches provide optimal exposures to different aspects of the JF and in combination may constitute a less invasive alternative to the more extensive approaches.

The measurements of beautiful buttocks have varied according to patient preference, different cultures, and ethnicity. There are great differences in the ideal aesthetic measurements of the buttocks among ethnic groups. In this work, the authors introduce an easy and versatile method for the assessment of “Gluteal-Related Aesthetic Subunits.” This method works as a tool to perform liposuction and lipoinjection, to treat the variety of differences in patients’ racial, cultural, personal preferences, and ethnic-related demands, thus improving the results of gluteal aesthetic surgery. This study was carried out on 148 patients, at plastic and reconstructive surgery department, Tanta University hospitals, and in private practice, in the period between 2010 and 2018. The aesthetic assessment and surgical planning were performed according to the criteria suggested by the authors of this work. Patient’s satisfaction showed excellent results in 104 (70.2%) patients, good results in 39 (26.4%) patients, fair results in 5 (3.4%) patients, and no poor results. Clinical assessment showed excellent results in 96 (64.8%) patients, good results in 44 (29.7%) patients, fair results in 8 (5.5%) patients, and no poor results were reported. (1) We believe that this classification of buttock areas is a valuable step that could help in achieving the required results that are more satisfactory to different types of patients. (2) Despite all the merits of this analytical tool and the advantages of the innovations in liposuction, some limitations remain. Fat transfer alone will not treat and even may worsen ptosis.

In cases where malocclusion is associated with intrinsic discoloration and/or discrepancies in tooth size and shape, such as peg-shaped laterals, orthodontics alone may not improve the aesthetics. In these situations, veneers may be considered as an adjunct to orthodontic treatment to improve the overall aesthetics. The aim of this study is to report a clinical case where an uneven occlusal plane was corrected, and the positioning of gingival zeniths, color, shape, and size of the dental elements involved were improved by means of gingivectomy and rehabilitation with 10 ceramic laminate veneers. It was possible to conclude that multidisciplinary treatment, when properly planned and indicated, respecting the limits and established techniques of periodontics, prosthesis, and dentistry, makes small occlusal leveling predictable and possible through these tools.
