The physical activity among elderly has been associated with reduction of risk from all-cause mortality and improve physical, mental, and social well-being. The objectives were to determine the physical activity status among elderly in Samarahan Division, Sarawak and its association with socio- demographic characteristics and nutritional status. A cross-sectional study was carried out on 199 elderly, aged between 60 to 90 years, from rural area in Samarahan Division (Asajaya and Simunjan district), Malaysia. Socio-demographic characteristic was taken via questionnaire, nutritional status and body composition of the elderly was measured using anthropometric measurement, and physical activity using pedometer. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS version 26. The proportion of physically active among elderly was 12.6% and mean daily steps are 3946 steps (SD=1669 steps). Multiple linear regressions revealed that age, body mass index (BMI), and sex were significant associated with physical activity. Lack of physical activity among elderly remain a problem. Understanding these predictors related to physical activity is important for designing intervention program.

Abstract Objective: to evaluate the relationship between sarcopenia, functional capacity and nutritional status among elderly women living in the community. Method: an observational, cross-sectional study was performed with 100 elderly women aged over 60 years. A questionnaire containing identification and socioeconomic data and information relating to the practice of physical activity was applied, while anthropometric and body composition data were measured through bioimpedance and functionality data was assessed using the six-minute walk test (6MWT). Independent t-tests were performed for the quantitative variables and analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare the means of the variables. Multiple linear regression analyzes were performed to estimate the mean 6MWTfor each of the variables studied. Results: The average age of the elderly women was 67 (± 8.0) years, 41% practiced physical activity, 38% had at least an elementary school education, 48% received up to two minimum wages and 91% were obese according to waist circumference (WC). The prevalence rates for the presence of sarcopenia were: 5% for sarcopenic obesity (SO), 63% for obesity, 14% for sarcopenia and 18% had adequate weight. Elderly women who practiced physical activity, had at least an elementary education and who were non-obese according to WC, performed better in the 6MWT. There were no significant differences in the 6MWTbased on income or Body Mass Index (p>0.05). Non-obese and non-sarcopenic women walked further in the functional test than the other women (p = 0.021). Conclusion: SO was present in 5% of the elderly women and is related to poor physical performance, which was also present in elderly women with sarcopenia and obesity.

Physical activity in later years of life is not only essential to healthy aging and independent functioning, but it also helps prevent chronic diseases. We aimed this cross-sectional study to assess the prevalence of physical activity and associated factors among rural elderly Thais. We conducted this study on a sample of 300 elderly in 2 rural districts of Phranakornsiayutthaya province in Thailand. The mean age of participants were 67.5±6 years and 42% of them did not perform physical activity. Prevalence of vigorous and moderate intensity physical activity was 43.7% and 48.7%, respectively. About 43.7% elderly used any active transport and spent 2.81 hours on sedentary activities, daily. Females and those with enough income were 3.64 and 0.59 times, respectively, less likely to be physically active ( P < .05). Our study concluded that almost half of the rural Thai elderly were physically inactive. Also male and wealthy elderly were less likely to be engaged in physical activity. We recommend for improved efforts to involve rural Thai elderly in physical activity by offering them opportunities for locally relevant recreational and leisure time physical activities, with special focus on males and higher income elderly.

Background. Article investigates youngster physical activity (PA) habits, finding tendencies of PA participation, factors promoting and impeding it. Methods. The methods include literature analysis, cross-sectional study with self-reported questionnaire consisting of 11 questions and statements about most popular leisure sports, frequency, venues, significant others, and neighbourhood influence. The questionnaire, based on EU Special Eurobarometer 412 “Sport and Physical Activity”, research in Northern and Eastern countries, as well as in the Netherlands, was sent by e-mail to 91 Grade 10 subjects in a Latvian mainstream secondary school in the academic year of 2015/2016; the response rate was 60%. The statistical analysis was carried out with Index method and SPSS software. Results. The Cronbach’s alpha for neighbourhood section (5 items) of the questionnaire was .74. The validity of the questionnaire was based on the consideration that the questions were drawn from surveys, described in reliable sources. Most of the students with friends or alone did three sports at sport schools (69.50%), as well as in parks, woods, seaside, at home, most popular sports were team games (basketball, volleyball), winter sports (skiing and snowboarding), fitness sports (running), strength sports (gym workout) and gymnastics. Statistically significant, medium strong correlations were found between good relations with neighbours and high level of well-being (r = .38, p = .05). Conclusion. The student choice to practice team games and gymnastics might be influenced by traditional youngster values and their status as trendy sports, but winter sports in Latvia traditionally are among the most popular ones. Good neighbourhood relations could help youngsters be more physically active.

Elderly is the life stage of the individual, this phase of this life must be passed by every individual, health conditions at this stage is largely determined by the quality and quantity of nutrient intake. In addition to nutritional intake such as energy and protein intake, physical activity can also contribute to the state of nutritional status of the elderly. Pancur Batu Puskesmas Goals : Deli Serdang has posyandu elderly in every rural area working area of puskesmas. One of them is an elderly service posyandu unit in Tanjung Anom Village. This study aims to see the factors that affect the nutritional status of elderly in posyandu elderly village tanjum anom. Method : The research design used is cross sectional study approach. This study has a sample of 38 people, by way of taking purposive sampling. The tools used in data collection are questionnaire and Food Frequency Quetionnaire (FFQ). Results : The results showed that the majority of women (68.5%), unfulfilled protein intake 55.3%, 50% unmet energy intake, and physical activity 73.7%. The results showed that protein intake and physical activity factors were associated with nutritional status of the elderly, as evidenced by p = 0,004 and 0,003. Conclusion: The conclusion of the study was that low intake of protein and energy led to nutritional status of the elderly. It is recommended that family members living with the elderly can balance the intake of protein and energy that is tailored to the type of physical activity of the elderly everyday.

Abstract Background: By 2030, approximately 20% of the population worldwide will be 65 years of age or older. In this age group, cardiovascular diseases (CVD) will result in 40% of all deaths. Heart rate variability (HRV) appears to be reduced under stress conditions and in many chronic diseases as cardiovascular diseases that appear to be associated with autonomic changes that usually include decreased parasympathetic activation and/or increased sympathetic modulation. Thus, aging is very important for altering neurohumoral mechanisms that control the cardiovascular system. Objective: To analyze the influence of level of physical activity in the HRV in elderly people. Methods: Cross-sectional analytical study which included 49 subjects (60 – 86 years), which answered the Baecke questionnaire. Results: The less physically active group had lower levels of plasma HDL (42±2.43mg/dL vs 52±3.8mg/dL) and higher systolic BP (131±117mmHg vs 117±4.07mmHg) when compared to the most active group. The more physically active group showed higher PI of variance (1849.6±387.7ms²) when compared to the moderate (892.1±141.9 ms²) and the less physically active groups (972.3±285.2 ms²). Moreover, the most physically active group presented lower LF/HF balance (1.6±0.2) when compared to the moderate (2.6±0.3) and the less active groups (2.5±0.2). Discussion: The results demonstrated the importance of physical activity to promote hemodynamic, autonomic and lipid profile improvement, suggesting a lower risk of developing or progressing the disease in the elderly.

Background: No specific physical activity guidelines are available for women in multiple pregnancy. Aim of the study was to assess the knowledge and experience of women regarding physical activity during their latest twin pregnancy. Methods: A cross-sectional study including women after a twin delivery was conducted in Poland. A questionnaire was distributed in 2018 via web pages and Facebook groups designed for pregnant women. Results: 652 women filled out the questionnaire completely. Only 25% of women performed any physical exercises during twin gestation. The frequency of preterm delivery was similar in physically active and non-active participants. 35% of the respondents claimed to have gained information on proper activity from obstetricians during antenatal counselling while 11% claimed to be unable to identify the reliable sources of information. 7% of women admitted to feel discriminated by social opinion on exercising during a twin pregnancy. Conclusions: The population of women with a twin gestation is not sufficiently physically active and is often discouraged from performing exercises during gestation. Therefore, it is crucial to inform obstetricians to recommend active lifestyle during a twin gestation and to provide reliable information on physical activity to pregnant women. Further research on this topic is necessary in order for obstetric providers to counsel women on appropriate exercise with a twin pregnancy.

Purpose: To describe physical activity habits, sedentary behavior, and cardiorespiratory fitness levels among alcohol abstainers, hazardous and non-hazardous drinkers. Design: Cross-sectional study with data collected between 2017-19. Setting: Sweden. Subjects: Adults aged 18-65 years (n = 47,559; 59.4% male). Measures: During a routine health assessment, participants answered validated single-item questions regarding: habitual physical activity, structured exercise, and the percentage of time spent sedentary during leisure-time (past 30 days), and completed a 6-minute cycle ergometer test (V02max) to determine cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF). Participants were categorized as alcohol abstainers, non-hazardous drinkers or hazardous drinkers (low/high) based on the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT-C) cut-points for men and women. Analysis: Logistic regression models stratified by sex and age. Results: Compared to non-hazardous drinkers, the heaviest drinkers were less physically active (males: OR = 1.38, CI = 1.13-1.67, p = .001; females: OR = 1.41, CI = 1.01-1.97, p = .040) and more sedentary during leisure time (males: OR = 1.94, CI = 1.62-2.32, p = .000; females: OR = 1.62, CI = 1.21-2.16, p = .001). Apart from young females, the heaviest drinkers also did less structured exercise than non-hazardous drinkers (males: OR = 1.22, CI = 1.15-1.51, p = .000; females: OR = 1.43, CI = 1.15-1.78, p = .001). The strongest associations were seen among adults aged 40-65 years (shown here). High-hazardous drinking was associated with low CRF among older males only (OR = 1.19, CI = 1.00-1.41). Conclusion: Middle-aged adults with AUDIT-C scores of ≥6 (women) and ≥7 (men) were less physically active and more sedentary during leisure time and may be appropriate targets for physical activity interventions.

ABSTRACT Objective: To propose a care need classification for elderly people by identifying their functional demands. Method: Cross-sectional study carried out in São Paulo, in 2006, with 1,413 elderly (≥ 60 years old), participants in the Health, Well-being and Aging study (SABE – Saúde, Bem Estar e Envelhecimento). For the care need classification, we used the Guttman Scaling method e the frequency of assistance required by the elderly. Results: The hierarchy of activities of daily living had good internal consistency (α = 0.92) and satisfactory coefficients of reproducibility (98%), scalability (84%) and minimum marginal reproducibility (87%). Care need was categorized into: no need (requires no caregiver), minimum need (requires caregiver sporadically), moderate need (requires caregiver intermittently) and maximum need (requires full-time caregiver). Conclusion: This classification will allow identifying elderly that need assistance in everyday activities and will orientante health professionals in the development of a line of care.

Students that participate in recreational sports and regular exercise are more likely to continueto be physically active. Thee purpose of this cross-sectional study design was to examine differentiatingmotives among participants and how motivation constructs relate to body composition.College students(n=403) were surveyed using the EMI-2 to determine motivational constructs in relation to body com-position. Standardized coefficients indicate that Appearance (β=-0.242, p=0.001), Health Pressures (β=0.208, p=0.05), and Weight Management ( β=0.332, p=0.001) have a statistically signi cant in uenceon intramural participants’ BMIs. This study is useful for promoting, designing, and implementing futurehealth programs for young adults.Creating diversity in activities encourages additional populations toparticipate in physical activity opportunities, thus improving overall health and well-being.
