Fieldwork placement is a complicated and involved task. On the one hand, it requires insightful, professional judgement, but on the other hand, it includes numerous routine administrative and clerical tasks. To deal with fieldwork placement more efficiently and effectively it was decided to computerize the fieldwork placement system at the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario. This paper describes the system developed and the resultant data base. The potential applications of the data base and the implications for students, facilities, educational programs, professional governing bodies and research are discussed.

This work undertakes a systematic reconstruction of the debates that took place over the course of several decades up to the beginning of the 21st century between Derrida on the one hand and Searle and Habermas on the other. It shows that the linguistic theories and the theories of communicative understanding developed by Searle and Habermas are based on inferences from the contingent individual case to the general. Searle draws ontological, Habermas anthropo-political conclusions, both with essentially naturalistic signatures. Derrida, on the other hand, raises epistemological objections and consequently develops a metaphysics of free subjects for whom conversation cannot necessarlily be presumed. The explicit dedication to ethics in Derrida's late work is due to his insight that the possibility of language and understanding is due to silence. Derrida's lasting merit lies in enriching the philosophy of language with a secretology. This study has been awarded the Kant Prize of the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Bonn and the "Prix de la République Française", awarded by the French Embassy and the University of Bonn.

Integrating dependability in self-optimizing systems is a challenging task. Self-optimizing systems incorporate on the one hand the opportunity to apply novel solutions to complex mechatronic systems, but on the other hand constitute a possible risk because of non-determined behavior. The dependability concept in this paper covers both aspects: Increasing safety with self-optimization and minimizing the risk of self-optimization. This dependability concept is combined with the self-optimization process of the active guidance module which is currently under development at the Collaborative Research Center 614 at the University of Paderborn.

[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT REQUEST OF AUTHOR.] This study addresses Lacan's comments on Marx. While much has been done towards reading Marx with psychoanalysis generally, little had has been done to unpack the meaning and extent of Lacan's own statements on Marx. For example, while Lacanian Marxists like Slavoj Zizek have wielded Lacan to great effect in a critique of post-structuralism, they have neglected the full meaning and complexity of Lacan's own stance. What is argued thereby is that Zizek not only omits the discrete knowledge within Lacan's commentary, but misses what I describe as a Lacan's theory of the social. On the one hand, it is commonly known in Lacanian thought that discourse is responsible for making the subject. On the other hand, what is less known is that Lacan defined discourse as that which makes a social link which, in contrast with Marxist thought, introduces a certain affect and materialism premised on discourse itself, commonly known, but also for providing the underlying strata of topology (namely, paradox) requisite for making any social link between subjects. Although less commonly known, we can nevertheless gain new insight into Marx. On the one hand, Lacan concedes Marx's underlying structuralism. On the other hand, Marx fails to see the true source of discourse's origins, the real itself, and consequently fails to see the true efficacy of discourse. He fails to see how discourse, although negative, stands as entirely positive and material in its distinctive effects. Discourse negotiates subjects and their inimitable objects of desire in this singularity itself. This is where true production lies; it is that which precedes any social or economic theory, which are otherwise premised on reality. Lacan rejects reality.

In this article we present the findings from the research “Gender violence in Spanish universities”, the first study that analyses gender violence in the university context in Spain. Studies on gender violence at the international level show, on the one hand, that gender violence is a reality that exists in universities, in the same way that it exists in other social contexts. On the other hand, the analysis of the actions implemented in prestigious universities shows the existence of measures to prevent and overcome it. Contrasting these evidences with the perceptions of different university collectives about the applicability of these measures in Spanish universities is the starting point to develop measures to eradicate gender violence in our universities.

This article reports on a study with two main purposes: on the one hand to look into the revision process in translation from Norwegian into Spanish, especially the revision of the title of a text, and on the other hand to compare the translation behavior of three different groups of participants with regard to the translation and revision of the title. The study was carried out by analyzing Translog keystroke data from language students, translation students, and professional translators during the 2011–2012 academic year at the University of Bergen, Norway. The study results show a lack of cohesion between the title and the body of the text in some of the target texts, and indicate that the number of revisions and the variations in the solutions of the translation of the title increase according to the subjects’ experience and translation training. The study also indicates that an additional phase of the translation process may be identified in keystroke data from Translog.

The problem of the relationships of mechanisms of psychological protection with the process of adaptation of students is considered to the educational environment in the university in this article. It is justified the feasibility of the study student period, that places higher demands to the psychological protection of the individual. The description of the theoretical justification of the problem of psychological protection and its features is given on the analysis of the scientific literature. It is presented the picture of the strategies of adaptive behavior of the person. The psychodiagnostic techniques are described such as ( test "Lifestyle Index" К. R. Plutchik – G. Kelermag, the methodology "The indicator of strategies to overcome stress" of D. R. Amirkhan in the adaptation of N.O. Syroty and V.M. Yalta, the multifactor personal questionnaire "The adaptability" of A. G. Maklakova in the adaptation of S. V. Chermyanin, the test of semantic and real orientations of D. O. Leontiev, the methodology of determining the stylistic features of self-regulation of behavior by V. I. Morosanova and E. M. Konoz). All they are used in the research of the features of psychological protection of personality and transformational adaptation. It is given the data of empirical research of features of formation of strategies of adaptive behavior in the course of psychological protection of the personality of the student. The psychological protection and personality development are related with each other, allowing the individual to adapt to difficult living conditions. On the one hand, the psychological protection is a condition for the harmonious development of the student's personality. It allows to provide adaptation through realization of balance of dynamic process of development. On the other hand, the development of personality in adolescence period is one of the conditions of psychological protection, ensuring the process of transformation of the individual and its life. The constructive interaction with the surrounding world is not possible without it. On the one hand, the self-protective efforts of a person are aimed at adaptation to the environment (preservation), and on the other hand, to the transformation of the psychological situation (change).

Abstract This paper deals with the relationship between the architectural and the university teaching. The description of design teaching of architecture of the University of Brasilia including a summary on its historical development is taken as the main example. This paper argues for straightening the relations between the school of architecture with the university teaching. On the other hand, this paper points out some existing problems that may difficult such an academic interrelationship. For example, the way as the design is teaching (drawing class) and the school is organized are the hey aspects analysed. The analysis compares the disciplinary teaching of architecture to comprehensive teaching of the university. The process of teaching design, called conceptual design, stresses two important aims. On the one hand, this teaching method opposes to the usual teaching, known as analysis-synthesis, by improving the academic background of architectural students. On the other hand, the method improves the insertion of the architectural school in the university.

Twenty years after his death, the reflections of Luciano Parinetto (1934-2001), who was associate professor of Moral Philosophy at the University of Milan, remain, on the one hand, on the relationship between witchcraft and diversity, and on the other hand, on the value of utopian hope. Despite the fact that the course of history has preferred the path of integration to that of revolution, dialectics remains the picklock to criticize alienated social situations.
