Award Restructuring and Clerical Work: Skills, Training and Careers in a Feminized Occupation

Clerical workers are the largest single occupational grouping in Australia, and they are predominantly female. For most women, clerical work has meant poor pay, low status, few career prospects and little recognition of their skills. This paper looks at the potential of award restructuring to improve women's employment opportunities in this occupation. In particular it examines the restructuring of the Victorian Commercial Clerks' Award, and analyzes the obstacles that lie in the way of its translation into real benefits for female clerical workers. Comparisons are drawn with developments in public sector award restructuring. The paper looks at the structure of clerical employment in the private sector, and the implications of its distribution across all industries—the predominance of small firms and the absence of industry-based career paths. It goes on to apply a feminist perspective to the key issues of skill, training and careers in clerical work, arguing that it is essential to any analysis of the actual outcomes of award restructuring in this area. The paper concludes that award restructuring is an inappropriate mechanism for improving skills and career paths in such afeminized occupation. The paper uses data from a survey of clerical employees in a wide range of workplaces to illustrate the argument. The potential of award restructuring to address unequal pay among male and female clerks through the process of reclassifying women's skills is also considered. Finally, the significance of the low level of unionization among private sector clerical employees is discussed, raising further doubts about the real benefits of award restructuring.

The Bulir Padi Foundation, a non-profit organization that has been established since 2002, is committed to contributing to the education of underprivileged children in the suburbs of Jakarta by turning them into foster children. And in 2020, one of the work programs is to produce mentored children who have work skills so that the hope is that they are better prepared to enter the workforce at the entry level so that they can answer industry needs through providing job readiness training. To support the economic development of young people and the absorption of youth labor, The Wired For Work Soft Skill Training (W4W) program is a non-formal training program for Bulir Padi Foundation children to produce children who have work skills so that they are expected to be better prepared to enter the world of work at the entry level so that they can answer industry needs by providing readiness training. work. In this W4W Program, Bulir Padi Foundation will collaborate with Atma Jaya University and Pertiwi Vocational High School as a form of synergy between non-governmental organizations and the academic community in solving social problems, especially in the field of education. Pertiwi SMK students will be facilitated to receive soft skills training for their readiness to enter the world of work. The material covered in the Wired For Work Soft Skill Training (W4W) training activity this time includes Self management to improve work ethics, Implementing basic communications skills, Implementing the right equality of female and male workers in the workplace, Implementing the quality of grooming and professional manner, Preparing Job Application and interview test and Manage Personal Finances.

Latar belakang: Hambatan fsik yang dimiliki anak tunarungu dapat berpengaruh pada perkembangan psikologis dan sosial. Mereka akan mengalami kesulitan saat berkomunikasi dengan orang lain, dan sulit untuk mengungkapkan perasaan yang dia rasakan. Hal ini kadang membentuk kepribadian anak dengan hambatan fsik ini lebih memilih untuk sendiri. Tujuan: Mengetahui pengaruh SST terhadap keterampilan sosialisasi remaja tunarungu di SLB N I Bantul. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Quasi-Experimental dengan rancangan one group pre-test dan post-testdesign. Hasil: Rata-rata peningkatan keterampilan sosialisasi sebesar 2,00%. Hasil penelitian diketahui perbedaan yang bermakna skor keterampilan sosial pada remaja tunarungu sebelum dan setelah diberikan terapi SST. Kesimpulan: SST dapat digunakan sebagai media untuk membentuk karaktristik, dan pergaulan seseorang dalam bersosialisasi. Saran: Dapat menjadi masukan SLB N I Bantul, meningkatkkan terapi sosial bagi murid- muridnya. Kata kunci: Keterampilan sosialisasi - social skills training - remaja tunarungu

BACKGROUND Clinical simulation is defined as “a technique to replace or amplify real experiences with guided experiences, often immersive in nature, that evoke or replicate substantial aspects of the real world in a fully interactive fashion”. In medicine, its advantages include repeatability, a nonthreatening environment, absence of the need to intervene for patient safety issues during critical events, thus minimizing ethical concerns and promotion of self-reflection with facilitation of feedback [1] Apparently, simulation based education is a standard tool for introducing procedural skills in residency training [3]. However, while performance is clearly enhanced in the simulated setting, there is little information available on the translation of these skills to the actual patient care environment (transferability) and the retention rates of skills acquired in simulation-based training [1]. There has been significant interest in using simulation for both learning and assessment [2]. As Canadian internal medicine training programs are moving towards assessing entrustable professional activities (EPA), simulation will become imperative for training, assessment and identifying opportunities for improvement [4, 5]. Hence, it is crucial to assess the current state of skill learning, acquisition and retention in Canadian IM residency training programs. Also, identifying any challenges to consolidating these skills. We hope the results of this survey would provide material that would help in implementing an effective and targeted simulation-based skill training (skill mastery). OBJECTIVE 1. Appraise the status and impact of existing simulation training on procedural skill performance 2. Identify factors that might interfere with skill acquisition, consolidation and transferability METHODS An electronic bilingual web-based survey; Fluid survey platform utilized, was designed (Appendix 1). It consists of a mix of closed-ended, open-ended and check list questions to examine the attitudes, perceptions, experiences and feedback of internal medicine (IM) residents. The survey has been piloted locally with a sample of five residents. After making any necessary corrections, it will be distributed via e-mail to the program directors of all Canadian IM residency training programs, then to all residents registered in each program. Two follow up reminder e-mails will be sent to all participating institutions. Participation will be voluntarily and to keep anonymity, there will be no direct contact with residents and survey data will be summarized in an aggregate form. SPSS Software will be used for data analysis, and results will be shared with all participating institutions. The survey results will be used for display and presentation purposes during medical conferences and forums and might be submitted for publication. All data will be stored within the office of internal medicine program at Memorial University for a period of five years. Approval of Local Research Ethics board (HREB) at Memorial University has been obtained. RESULTS Pilot Results Residents confirmed having simulation-based training for many of the core clinical skills, although some gaps persist There was some concern regarding the number of sim sessions, lack of clinical opportunities, competition by other services and lack of bed side supervision Some residents used internet video to fill their training gaps and/or increase their skill comfort level before performing clinical procedure Resident feedback included desire for more corrective feedback, and more sim sessions per skill (Average 2-4 sessions) CONCLUSIONS This study is anticipated to provide data on current practices for skill development in Canadian IM residency training programs. Information gathered will be used to foster a discourse between training programs including discussion of barriers, sharing of solutions and proposing recommendations for optimal use of simulation in the continuum of procedural skills training.

We have been aware for a while that there are disparities in specialist skill provision both between and within deaneries – and the SAC is working hard to identify problems in this area. More recently, the issue of funding for specialist skills has been raised. It seems that some deaneries are happy and able to contribute towards the cost of training in a particular skill, while others are not; in at least one deanery, part-funding has now been withdrawn, leaving trainees to cover the entire cost of their chosen skills training. As specialist skill training is now a mandatory part of the Acute Medicine curriculum, we need to find a way to eliminate disparity both between different deaneries and between different skills. However, there is no easy solution, and for the time being, trainees will have to factor in the potential financial implications of a particular skill when they are considering their options. On a brighter note, the list of recognised specialist skills has increased over the past year. Palliative Care has been authorised as a suitable skill, and Medical Ethics and Law will soon also be added to the list. If you would like to propose a skill that is not currently listed in the Acute Medicine curriculum, you should discuss it with your training programme director, who can bring the proposal to the Acute Medicine Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC).

Career counselling is an important process in the personal and professional development of young professionals. In a continuously changing labour market, the graduates in the engineering field have been rapidly become conscious that the technical abilities are only the core of their professional profile, and the need to add a wide range of soft skills become mandatory prerequisites imposed by the human resources services in the recruiting companies. Our research investigated the impact of a soft skills training programme developed in the framework of a European Union funding project. The results revealed a vivid interest of young researcher in the engineering filed for the personal and professional growth especially for the development of communication and teamwork abilities. The professional counselling activities are a largely integrated component among the activities and the general intervention directions proposed by the European funding projects revealing a real need for the sustainable development of these support activites.

ABSTRAK Jumlah penyandang autis di dunia sekitar 35 juta orang, kisaran 60.000 – 150.000 autis terjadi pada anak usia dibawah 15 tahun yang ditandai dengan adanya gangguan dan keterlambatan dalam bidang kognitif, bahasa, perilaku, komunikasi dan interaksi sosial. Terapi yang diberikan untuk peningkatan kemampuan sosial pada anak autis dilakukan terapi Social Skill Training (SST). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui Pengaruh SST dengan dan tanpa diet CFGF terhadap Kemampuan Sosialisasi Anak Autisme (6 -12 Tahun) di SLB Autis YPPA Padang Tahun 2018. Desain penelitian quasi experimental one - group pre - post test. Populasi dalam penelitian ini seluruh anak autis yang berusia 6-12 Tahun dan sampel diambil dengan convenience sampling yang berjumlah 20 orang dengan dan tanpa diet CFGF. Teknik pengolahan data univariat distribusi frekuensi dan central tedensy dan data bivariat dengan Paired T - test. Hasil penelitian terdapat pengaruh SST dengan dan tanpa Diet CFGF terhadap kemampuan sosialisasi anak autis sebelum dan sesudah diberikan terapi. The population in this study all children with autism aged 6 – 12 year, and samples were taken by convenience sampling 20 people with and without diet CFGF. Univariate date processing techniques while the frequency distribution and central tedensy and Bivariate date processing techniques with paired T - test. Results of research abilities children with autism after therapy SST with and without diet CFGF with social skillsof children with autism. Objective: Talent is the key factor in the implementation of the Rural Revitalization Strategy. Based on the willingness and influencing factors of new professional farmers to participate in skill training in the development of modern urban agriculture, this study seeks to study the education of professional farmers from the perspective of demand. Methods: Based on the questionnaire survey data of new vocational farmers in Wenzhou, this study systematically analyzed the current situation, training willingness, training methods, and training effect of new vocational training, and made quantitative statistical analysis of the original basic data. Combined with the characteristics of agricultural industry and post, this study empirically analyzed their perception of participating in skill training and the influencing factors. Results: The number of new vocational farmers willing to participate in training was significantly higher than that of farmers unwilling to participate in training. The frequency of technical problems encountered in agricultural production, the times of training, the evaluation of training effect, effect, cost, teacher level, hardware level, certificate, and other factors have a significant impact on the willingness of new vocational farmers to participate in skills training. Conclusion: This study proposes to build a vocational occupation education system to enhance the training intention of new occupation farmers. During the COVID-19, the innovative form of webcast sales realized the unification of technology and service.

Background: Schizophrenia is part of a psychotic disorder characterized by a loss of understanding of reality and a loss of insight that can be found in symptoms of severe mental disorders such as hallucinations, delusions, chaotic behavior, and chaotic speech, as well as negative symptoms that cause social damage. Psychosocial interventions such as Social Skills Training (SST) is one of the efforts that can be given to schizophrenic patients with the aim of increasing patient socialization and communication skills so that patients are able to adapt to their environment. Research Objectives: To determine the effectiveness of computer-based and manual-based Social Skills Training (SST) on improving the socialization and social function of schizophrenic patients. Data Sources: Sources of data obtained from Pubmed, Sciencedirect, and Ebsco Inclusion Criteria: 1) research studies using the RCT approach, 2) studies in schizophrenic patients in the adolescent-adult age range (17 years-80 years), 3) studies with social therapy interventions, skills training combined social cognitive therapy therapy treatments, both as independent interventions or in combination with other interventions Appraisal studies and synthesis methods: Appraisal studies use the critical appraisal skills program (CASP), and the synthesis method uses PICO modifications. Entrepreneurship is the right choice to improve the life of the economy independently. Whether it's the economy of ourselves personally, even the economy in general in a bigger scope. Cimahi City as one of the cities in Indonesia that has the number of unemployed as many as 2,903 people in 2015. Based on data obtained from the Department of Manpower Cimahi City in 2016, it is known that only about 25.2% alone the amount of unemployment that can be absorbed on the job there is. Based on the conditions in this field, needed an empowerment to overcome the condition. One of the empowerment activities that can be done to overcome this condition through life skills training in the field of bridal makeup organized by Course and Training Institute. But the activity of the alumni of post life skill training training needs to be seen again. Like what the alumni are applying the results of training in entrepreneurship.               This research uses qualitative approach with descriptive method. The subject of this research is alumni of LKP Nuning Kota Cimahi in bridal make up. Data collection techniques in this study using interview techniques, observation, and documentation studies. The results of this study indicate that the life skills training process in bridal makeup field consists of preparation process, implementation process, evaluation process, and mentoring process. It can be said that 75% of LKP Nuning alumni in the field of bridal makeup have successfully entrepreneurship independently.               This bridal makeup training really helps the alumni in improving their economic and social position in the community. After the training, the alumni began to pioneer their business independently. Promoting online and offline, improving existence through professional organization activities, as well as setting aside funds for upgrading on her dressing skills. In addition, they begin to encounter the obstacles in it. In general, the obstacles faced are divided into 4 issues namely, capital constraints, business competition obstacles, barriers to trend changes that are too fast, and hambantan management of business management. However, not all alumni succeeded in becoming bridal cosmetic. A lot is expected of Meindert Dillen and Philipp von Wussow by Wintershall Dea. Their mission is to ensure that the company’s technical team is increasingly able to use advanced data analysis to find and produce oil and gas more productively. The focus is on increasing the capabilities of those with traditional engineering and geology training. “Someone who can understand seismic processing can program a neural network,” said Patrick von Pattay, a vice president for Wintershall Dea and chairman off the Digital Transformation Committee of SPE’s Digital Energy Technical Section. That is an apt description of Dillen, whose work as a geophysicist using advanced analytics led to his current job. In both roles, finding new ways to extract useful bits of information from massive data sets is valuable. This team was created after the merger of Wintershall and Dea - with one member from each company. They have been working to scale up their influence by “building a community and pulling people together.” A key part of their effort was creating a digital skills network a few years ago. This grassroots effort has helped bring together technical staffers with the wide range of traditional and digital knowledge needed to deliver digital change. “We are in a lucky position,” Dillen said. “A lot of people are interested in this technology and want to apply it in ways” that can have a significant impact. The number involved must be expressed as a range - between 100 and 200, because engagement varies - with people including geophysics experts who were learning about neural networks in the 1980s when the available computing power limited its uses and digital natives who wonder why their workplace is not using the tools found in everyday life. A network’s worth of skills is required because the potential applications are as varied as the many disciplines within engineering, geology, and geophysics, among others. “No one on Earth can define all the use cases,” said von Wussow, whose career began in subsurface roles and later included stops in business development and management along the way to analytics. The company does offer digital skills training and discussions - which are done online because of COVID-19. A lot of the new thinking is spread by word of mouth in online communities. “Now, people in Norway who know people in Argentina and Russia spread the ideas,” von Wussow said. Von Wussow and Dillen sometimes play the role of matchmaker. Relatively simple requests can be met by connecting people with complementary skills inside the company or steering them to outside sources. Other times, the problem is bigger and project evaluation and management skills are required, beginning with figuring out the root of the problem, how digital might help solve it, and whether the benefit of doing so justifies the effort. If a project is a go, those involved need to think through the plan of attack and consider the people and resources required and whether they will come from inside or outside the company.
