The lack of a standard definition of response rates in surveys has resulted in problems in the marketing research community, including ambiguity in pricing and evaluating research proposals and in assessing the quality of data used in industry reports and journal articles. This comment highlights the work of an industry task force which has considered the implications of different definitions and proposed an industry standard.

This book provides the qualitative research community with some insight on how to evaluate the quality of qualitative research. This topic has gained little attention during the past few decades. We, qualitative researchers, read journal articles, serve on masters’ and doctoral committees, and also make decisions on whether conference proposals, manuscripts, or large-scale grant proposals should be accepted or rejected. It is assumed that various perspectives or criteria, depending on various paradigms, theories, or fields of discipline, have been used in assessing the quality of qualitative research. Nonetheless, until now, no textbook has been specifically devoted to exploring theories, practices, and reflections associated with the evaluation of qualitative research. This book constructs a typology of evaluating qualitative research, examines actual information from websites and qualitative journal editors, and reflects on some challenges that are currently encountered by the qualitative research community. Many different kinds of journals’ review guidelines and available assessment tools are collected and analyzed. Consequently, core criteria that stand out among these evaluation tools are presented. Readers are invited to join the author to confidently proclaim: “Fortunately, there are commonly agreed, bold standards for evaluating the goodness of qualitative research in the academic research community. These standards are a part of what is generally called ‘scientific research.’ ”

With the increasing role of senior citizens in modern societies it is important to know, inter alia, their transportation preferences and travel behaviour. The article presents the definition of a senior citizen taking account of different age of a person defining the beginning of this stage in life. Afterwards, various stages of seniors’ lives were distinguished as regards changes in lifestyle. The average life expectancy was also specified, defining the beginning of senior stage of life. The main part of this article was dedicated to the specificity of transportation preferences and travel behaviour of seniors as a specific group of the inhabitants of Gdynia, located within Gdańsk Metropolis. To this end, the data gathered during representative research conducted in 2015 was used. By analysing the data it was possible to determine the specificity of seniors’ urban travel purposes and their demands taking particular account of the comfort of travel. The article presents the modes of travel of seniors against all inhabitants considered collectively searching for determinants of choosing a particular mode of travel. Moreover, the article presents differences in assessing the quality of public transport by seniors and all inhabitants of the city. The final part provides conclusions drawn from the conducted research.

Introduction. The effective use and analysis of market information about the market, its market conditions, consumer behavior becomes of special importance in the process of development of ecological marketing as a fundamental and applied discipline. And it is precisely on the quality of the results of marketing research that will depend on further strategy and competitiveness of the enterprise. That is why the question of marketing research and the methods of their conduct is relevant. Methods. Such methods as analysis and synthesis, comparison, formalization are used when writing the article. Results. Taking into account the definition of various scientists, as well as the fact that in our opinion, ecological marketing and marketing as a whole is part of the management process, marketing research should be regarded as “the process of systematic collection and analysis of data necessary to make managerial decisions to achieve the goals and objectives of the enterprise”. Discussion. Further research will focus on identifying the most effective and optimal market research methods, collecting primary data, assessing consumer behavior and optimizing business development strategies. Keywords: methodology, marketing research, ecological marketing, agrarian sector.

During the past investigations of immunoferritin localization of intracellular antigens in ultrathin frozen sections, we found that the degree of negative staining required to delineate u1trastructural details was often too dense for the recognition of ferritin particles. The quality of positive staining of ultrathin frozen sections, on the other hand, has generally been far inferior to that attainable in conventional plastic embedded sections, particularly in the definition of membranes. As we discussed before, a main cause of this difficulty seemed to be the vulnerability of frozen sections to the damaging effects of air-water surface tension at the time of drying of the sections.Indeed, we found that the quality of positive staining is greatly improved when positively stained frozen sections are protected against the effects of surface tension by embedding them in thin layers of mechanically stable materials at the time of drying (unpublished).

One goal in electron microscopy of biological specimens is to improve the quality of data to equal the resolution capabilities of modem transmission electron microscopes. Radiation damage and beam- induced movement caused by charging of the sample, low image contrast at high resolution, and sensitivity to external vibration and drift in side entry specimen holders limit the effective resolution one can achieve. Several methods have been developed to address these limitations: cryomethods are widely employed to preserve and stabilize specimens against some of the adverse effects of the vacuum and electron beam irradiation, spot-scan imaging reduces charging and associated beam-induced movement, and energy-filtered imaging removes the “fog” caused by inelastic scattering of electrons which is particularly pronounced in thick specimens.Although most cryoholders can easily achieve a 3.4Å resolution specification, information perpendicular to the goniometer axis may be degraded due to vibration. Absolute drift after mechanical and thermal equilibration as well as drift after movement of a holder may cause loss of resolution in any direction.

The article describes the results of comprehensive study aiming at increase of quality of LED luminaires and definition of the nature of changes in their correlated colour temperature (CCT) in the course of operation. Dependences of CCT of LED luminaires with remote and close location of phosphor for 10 thousand hours of operation in different electric modes were obtained; the results of comparison between the initial and final radiation spectra of the luminaires are presented; using mathematical statistics methods, variation of luminaire CCT over the service period claimed by the manufacturer is forecast; the least favourable electric operation modes with the highest CCT variation observed are defined. The obtained results have confirmed availability of the problem of variation of CCT of LED luminaires during their operation. Possible way of its resolution is application of more qualitative and therefore expensive LEDs with close proximity of phosphor or LEDs with remote phosphor. The article may be interesting both for manufacturers and consumers of LED light sources and lighting devices using them.
