Karen Horney describes four protective mechanisms utilized by people to protect themselves from basic anxiety. These are affection, submissiveness, power, and withdrawal. It is argued that the position of both men and women regarding the role of women is to a great extent motivated by the assumption of one or more of these protective means. Each of these protective devices is equally a manifestation of sin and immaturity. Several statements representative of various theoretical positions about women are examined in light of this interpersonal theory. It is seen that opinions which would exclude women from leadership positions within the church are motivated by a need for power while the reciprocal position of submission results from an inordinate need for affection, a need met through the submissive stance. In sharp contrast, a revolutionary position indicated in Scripture according to other interpretations is one which requires reciprocal subordination and complementary functioning of men and women in all social institutions.

This essay will explore the role of the repentant woman in Benedicta Ward’s Harlots of the Desert. Ward’s argument asserts that both men and women in the early centuries of Christianity had to undertake the task of overcoming their gender in order to become holy men and women, in either a monastic setting or as a desert dwelling hermit. I will argue that the task of overcoming gender in order to be in closer proximity to holiness in the early centuries of the church was a more difficult task for women than for men. This is because women had to first become like men, and then genderless, whereas men had simply to overcome one gender role. This paper will explore the evidence for such a claim by examining the textual evidence of early hagiographies present in Ward’s book.

There is broad discussion of the higher numbers of women in the forensic sciences, particularly when compared to other science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. In this discussion, we focus on forensic anthropology. We begin with an historical overview of the role of women in the discipline; data are then provided that outline the numbers of women scholars and practitioners over time. We then explore the different roles of men and women in regard to leadership positions, professional awards, awarded grant-funding, job hiring trends, presentations at the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) annual meeting, and publications in the Journal of Forensic Sciences. While the number of women in forensic anthropology is greatly increasing, the discipline has been slow to also grow the visibility of women in positions of leadership or to honor them with prestigious awards. One reason for this finding may be that women are subjected to bias and harassment, which may cause them to leave forensic anthropology at various points along the way, or lead to their contribution being less valued. These findings are discussed within the context of gendered expectations, and suggestions are provided on how to improve the retention of women as well as to diversify the discipline in general.

Interface between the Bible and ideas about gender and church mission work in Africa is a phenomenon that calls for discussion within theological forums. Despite both men and women being active in church activities, the early church depicts men as being at the forefront while women quietly participated. Concerning the missionary era, men publicly were the leaders as women followed or privately served as the personal assistant or as administrators. In addition, looking now at the contemporary church, in the traditional (orthodox) churches, the so-called historical or mainstream churches, men take the top leadership roles while women deputize them. However, this position is being challenged by the new religious movements and Christian ministries movements where women are usurping the top leadership positions. This paper therefore seeks to paint a seemingly more balanced account of gender roles that would benefit men and women alike by exploring historical and theological leadership roles and gender in the church.

Globally, in the last four decades, the number of women in the job market has increased significantly. More women are entering into positions of managers and leaders. However, despite the laws in many countries aimed on advancing women to the top positions of the companies, the "glass ceiling" phenomenon still continues. Research in the direction of women in leadership positions shows a series of challenges that women face during the process of advancing into higher positions. Research on the attitudes towards a woman as manager shows that male subordinates have negative attitudes and stereotypes towards a woman leader and that successful leaders and managers are still imagined as men. Stereotypes are even more pronounced in patriarchal and traditional societies. As a result, because of these attitudes and prejudices women face obstacles in dealing with their male counterparts, which contributes to being perceived as being less effective in the role of a leader. The aim of this research is to see the differences between men and women in the Republic of Macedonia in attitudes toward a woman manager. The results taken from ae survey showed that there are differences in attitudes towards a woman manager between men and women, where women are somewhat positive, while men are neutral. What is worth noting is that the attitude of the women themselves towards the manager is not completely positive.

In general, the church accepts the existence of women as leaders and puts it on an equal footing with men. But in this day and age many people are hunting for men and women as a result of implementing democracy. God views men and women as equal before God, but in the Bible that men and women are different in terms of leadership because God appointed a man as a leader for a woman. The role of women in the church in particular did not go unnoticed. Why is that? Because in a woman has a weakness. The fall of man into sin occurred because of the weakness of women who are easily tempted.Democracy in this case cannot destroy a traditional culture that has been created by humans, nor can it change what is written in the word of God.

Language, in different facets of human life, has always enjoyed the attention of scholars over the years. There have been works on Christian faith-based discourse, some of which are termed ‘the language of religion’, ‘religious language’, ‘Christian religious language’, ‘language of worship’, etc. most of these works focus on register or vocabulary. With the proliferation of churches in Nigeria today, certain linguistic trends have emerged in Christian faith-based discourse. This paper investigates these linguistic trends in Christian assemblies with the aim of highlighting the meanings they could convey. Fifteen speech samples produced by a set of purposively sampled participants who occupy certain leadership positions in their assemblies are used in this study. Some of the speech samples were transcribed from existing audio-tapes and interaction with church leaders while others were recorded through note-taking during church activities. The findings reveal that the trend of language usage under study projectsunpleasant and unintended meanings which may inhibit the successful practice of the Christian faith by adherents, and hinder intending or prospective members. Unintended expressions tend to underrate God and magnify Satan (the archenemy of the Christians), or they mock the Christian faith and exaggerate life’s problems. Words are powerful and as such, must be employed in Christian faith-based discourses with utmost care. The role of language in the progress of the church, physically or spiritually, should not be underestimated.

The theme of the Church's influence on the political life of the state is one that is constantly focused on the attention of the scientific community, the media and its own politics. The current legislation in Ukraine clearly separates the church from the state. However, both the church and the state are important social institutions that can not but influence one another. The official position of the state in the relevant relations is outlined again by the law. Each of the confessions of the country, through democratic freedoms and within them, is able to implement its own concept of relations with the state. Moreover, the positions of even the largest churches in Ukraine here are significantly different and significantly affect the social realities, which determines the relevance of the topic.

Seeing from the creation story, it can be said that gender equality has been determined according to God's own standards "Genesis 1:26 God said: "Let us make humans..." This passage refers to the understanding that men and women have the same equality, even though they have fallen. into sin but humans are required to be in their place and role even though in today's practice there are still gender differences that occur. This paper focuses on the implementation of the role of women in the church and the role of women in the Bible by referring to the two women in the OT and NT.
