The increasing emissions from the transportation sector pose substantial hazards to the environment and human health around the world. With the rapid development of information and communication technologies, ridesplitting, a form of ridesourcing service accessed via smartphone applications, enables passengers with similar origins and destinations to be matched to the same driver and share the ride. This is regarded as a promising travel mode that could mitigate air pollution. However, because of a lack of quantitative analysis, the environmental benefits of ridesplitting have not been rigorously justified. As vast amounts of observed data of ridesourcing have become increasingly available, this study quantifies the environmental benefits of ridesplitting based on the global positioning system (GPS) trajectory and trip order datasets of DiDi Chuxing in Chengdu, China. First, the saved distances of ridesplitting are calculated by analyzing the travel distances of both ridesplitting trips and the corresponding trips under non-ridesplitting conditions. Then, the emission factors of CO, NOx, and HC are estimated by a localized MOVES model. Combining the saved distances and emission factors, the emission reductions from each ridesplitting trip can be calculated. The results show that ridesplitting can decrease the travel distance by 22% on average compared with non-ridesplitting. As a consequence, the average emission reductions per ridesplitting trip are 10.601 g of CO, 0.691 g of NOx, and 1.424 g of HC, respectively. This study provides a better understanding of the environmental benefits of ridesplitting and theoretical guidance for the government’s decision-making in green transport planning.

The rapid development in the world of information and communication technologies makes it possible to say that now they are one of the most common ways of teaching. These technologies influence the formation of methods and methods of pedagogical activity, open up new opportunities for communication and obtaining information. Informatization and computerization of education acts as a component of the general trend of global processes of world development, as an initial information and communication basis for the harmonious development of the individual and social systemic information. Preparing a student for an active and fruitful life in a modern digital information society is one of the main tasks of the modern stage of modernization of the education system.

The rapid development of information and communication technology (ICT) over the past decades has created new challenges and opportunities for libraries and librarians. As a result of ICT, library services to users have changed, the management of libraries has evolved and the roles of librarians have multiplied. The new millennium presents new opportunities to exploit an ever-growing array of information and communication technologies in the provision of library services. As one millennium draws to a close and a new one begins, there are a lot of questions to answer:

Owing to the rapid development of information and communication technologies, such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and computer vision, in recent years, the concept of smart sports has been proposed. A pitch fatigue detection method that includes acquisition, analysis, quantification, aggregation, learning, and public layers for adaptive baseball learning is proposed herein. The learning determines the fatigue index of the pitcher based on the angle of the pitcher's elbow and back as the number of pitches increases. The coach uses this auxiliary information to avoid baseball injuries during baseball learning. Results show a test accuracy rate of 89.1%, indicating that the proposed method effectively provides reference information for adaptive baseball learning.

Globalization is a special phenomenon in human civilization that moves on the global community and is part of the global human processes. The presence of information and communication technologies to accelerate the globalization of this. Globalization touches all the important aspects of life. Globalization creates new challenges and problems that must be answered, solved in an effort to harness globalization for the benefit of life. In general, globalization means the increasing linkages between the people and places as a result of advances in transportation technology, communications, and information that led to the convergence of political, economic, and cultural. The discourse of globalization as a process characterized by the rapid development of science and technology so that it can fundamentally change the world. International transport and communications have removed the boundaries of each nation’s culture. The article analyzes the issues of improving the use of information and communication technologies in the prevention of offenses on the basis of studying the norms of national legislation, the opinions of domestic and foreign scientists. It is noted that today, cardinal changes in the information sphere at the global level are carried out through the rapid development and dissemination of new information and communication technologies. An increasing influence on the economy, politics, international relations and culture is exerted by the development and improvement of global networks, which open up endless possibilities of direct communication between people in real time. All these advances in the information field create the preconditions for moving towards a completely new type of society - the information society and information space. On the basis of the study, scientifically grounded proposals and recommendations were formulated aimed at improving this area.

Telemedicine applications are more and more used due to the rapid development of digital imaging and information and communication technologies. Medical information which include digital medical images and patient’s information are extracted and transmitted over insecure networks for clinical diagnosis and treatments. Digital watermarking is one of the main approaches used to ensure the security of medical images. Nevertheless, in some cases, the only use of digital watermarking is not sufficient to reach a high level of security. Indeed, the watermark could carry essential patient information and needs to be protected. In such cases, cryptography may be used to protect the watermark and to improve the overall secured management in the medical environment. In this paper, we propose a clone-resistant watermarking approach combining a difference expansion watermarking technique with a cryptographic technique based on secret keys generated by a clone-resistant device called Secret Unknown Ciphers (SUCs). The use of SUCs to sign the watermark enforces the security of medical images during their transfer and storage. Experimental results show that the system provides a high level of security against various forms of attacks.

Digital resources are readily available and easily accessible with the rapid development of information and communication technologies nowadays. These digital resources, however, have not been fully utilized as demonstrated in the literature. This chapter presents a study based on an online survey in a university environment aiming to investigate the extent to which digital resources are utilized, and to identify the critical factors for the effective use of digital resources. The study reveals that the usage of digital resources is significant in higher education, and the utilization of digital resources is very much dependent on the users and purposes. The awareness and the quality of information are critical for the use of digital resources. The findings of this study shed light on the use of digital resources and help libraries better understand users’ perceptions and experiences of using digital resources services in university libraries.

Recently, with the rapid development of information and communication technologies, alternative solutions have emerged to respond to changing user requirements. The most important of these are digital media and technologies that allow users to share with each other and create media content within individuals or groups. These platforms, called social media, offer a technological infrastructure where sharing and discussion are principle concepts. Social media can provide not only increase in communication, but also it allows customers to take an active role in creating value in business. This means that social media have changed the way companies innovate with individuals. The purpose of the research is to reveal how social media is used for product development in the context of one of the most used technique by open systems called co-creation approach. This chapter can be considered as a model designed to demonstrate the use of social media's power.

Abstract Today's modern age is characterized by the rapid development of information and communication technologies, which is also reflected in the educational process. It is therefore necessary to prepare the young generation of even at primary and secondary schools to solve problems from real life. Using the appropriate motivation, innovative methods and application of modern information and communication technologies into the teaching process, we can succeed. Constructions created using by dynamic geometry systems bring new opportunities to learning. The aim of this article is to introduce the possibility of using GeoGebra in graphics solution of system of linear inequalities and also in the geometric interpretation of solutions to word problems leading to the linear optimization. The article describes the observations of experimental teaching, where was used GeoGebra. The experimental teaching was conducted at a grammar school in Košice. GeoGebra offers suitable tools to create graphical models in solving the optimization problems.
