In the recent past, computer technology has had a tremendous impact on the industrial sector. Often the computer is simply part of an overall system, either substituting for, or working in cooperation with, people. The key issue is the operation of the entire system, including computers and people and involving important aspects of communication, control and information processing — in other words, cybernetics. The authors discuss how cybernetics has become a vitally important part of successful industrial and business operation. They focus particularly on the benefits for industry when it links with the higher education sector in this field.

The BID (Board of Industrial Development) framed the legislation and it was introduced before the state legislation and passed in the form of Maharashtra Industrial Act which gave birth to Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), as a separate corporation on August 1, 1962. The BID was the first personnel strength of MIDC. A small ceremony at Wagle Estate Thane, under the Chairmanship of the Chief Minister Shri Y.B. Chavan, marked the birth of MIDC on August 1, 1962. The Board of Industrial Development during its existence between October 1, 1960 and August 1, 1962 has done enough spade work to identify the locations for setting up industrial areas in different parts of the state. Thus, right in the first year of establishment MIDC came up with 14 industrial areas, to initiate action for infrastructure and help entrepreneurs set up the industrial units in those areas. Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation is the nodal industrial infrastructure development agency of the Maharashtra Government with the basic objective of setting up industrial areas with a provision of industrial infrastructure all over the state for planned and systematic industrial development. MIDC is an innovative, professionally managed, and user friendly organization that provides the world industrial infrastructure. MIDC has played a vital role in the development of industrial infrastructure in the state of Maharashtra. As the state steps into the next millennium, MIDC lives up to its motto Udyamat Sakal Samruddhi i.e., prosperity to all through industrialization. Indeed, in the endeavor of the state to retain its prime position in the industrial sector, MIDC has played a pivotal role in the last 35 years. MIDC has developed 268 industrial estates across the state which spread over 52653 hectares of land. The growth of the Corporation, achieved in the various fields, during the last three years, could be gauged from the fact that the area currently in possession of MIDC has doubled from 25,000 hectares in 1995.

As a result of growing competition in the market of industrial goods and services, the mechanism of sustainable development of the industry is a continuous process of generating innovations. Moreover, the development of innovations is one of the first elements of the industrys competitiveness mechanism along with testing innovations and bringing them into use. The innovations which have successfully passed the stages of approbation and implementation, or the so-called “useful” innovations, present the basic complex of competitive advantages of the industry, its new vector of development, what is a tool of operational management of the countrys (regions) innovation policy which provides a set of specific tasks and mechanisms for the development of the system. The work pays attention to the study of corresponding methods and tools for the formation of an innovative strategy, taking into account the starting positions of the development of society and economy, and new conditions for the development. As a general methodological base, the authors chose the principles of the system methodology and the institutional approach to analyzing the role of innovative tactics of industrial enterprises in developing an effective strategy in the context of economy digitalization. The authors analyze and substantiate the role of “useful” innovations in industrial development in the context of growing competition in the industrial goods market. The researchers offer a tool for assessing the effectiveness of industrial policy based on indicators evaluating the effectiveness of the industrial sector. The authors also analyze the calculated indicators, including with the use of the proposed graphical tool. The types of strategies for the development of a new direction of policy, i.e. neo-industrialization, are presented. A set of main components influencing the level of industrial development, taking into account the barriers to neo-industrialization is added.

The industrial sector plays a vital role in economic development; therefore, there is a necessity to integrate sustainability into industrial development to maintain the economy and avoid any degradation impacts on the environment, and thereafter on society. Thus, do Bahraini companies have sustainability reports and if so, are these reports based on GRI guidelines? Has the status of their sustainability reports been analyzed? This research aims to examine the sustainability reports of companies by analyzing the status of sustainability aspects in their materiality matrices to assist in identifying and prioritizing the most significant sustainability issues for advancement in their future reporting and to improve their environmental performance. This study employs a content analysis approach and analyzes 11 reports from the period 2016–2020 for three companies in Bahrain’s large industrial sector. The study reveals that the companies using materiality analysis in their reporting benefit from better monitoring and measuring of their environmental performance, and from implementing SDGs. Furthermore, the study indicates that the utilization of a materiality matrix as a reporting tool can define and improve report contents by considering stakeholders’ views, consequently, improving the quality of the sustainability reports. The study concludes by proposing a set of recommendations.

The role of labour and industrial laws is of paramount importance when the economy of a country depends largely on its industrial sector. In addition, the necessary infrastructure for investments in natural resources is also important. It is clear that if these essential elements are not available then the growth of the industrial sector is hardly feasible. Besides all these, the proper management of labour is essential for the growth of the industrial sector including managing labour issues. Thus timely disposal of labour disputes is also important. However, in most cases labour law disputes are not solved within a short period of time causing remedies which are essential for these disputes to be delayed. Labour laws are important from the Bangladesh perspective as it is crucial for the industrial development of the country. Labour is an important part of an industry and as such an industry without labour would be inconceivable. Although labour rights are crucial in Bangladesh, employees are ignorant about their rights as they do not have adequate education and knowledge about labour laws. This is a huge problem. This paper aims to narrow the gap between existing laws and the real scenario relating to industrial practices in Bangladesh.

Background: Hopefully, if rest of things work as expected, the adequate supply of electricity, as one of the major industrial energy inputs, plays vital role in determining the industrial production, at large. In this paper, the present researchers assumed that the present state of scarcity of electricity may reveal their higher level of willingness to pay for higher energy efficient ratio as a pay-off of their improved industrial productivity. It is a proven fact that as one of the dominant indicators of national economic development and prosperity, effective electricity management procedures for industry increases significantly the productivity and operational efficiency. Objectives: The present paper attempts to explore the willingness of industrialists to pay more for adequate electricity supply for the industrial purpose in the present context of Nepal. Methods: Extensive desk review was carried out with a directed intension to develop insights on effective management of energy supply-related activities in industrial sector by analyzing the advances and trends as well as synergies in different intervention areas. Findings: A large number of academic and professional research works are carried out by different researchers on electricity management, with focus on identification of energy management models, corresponding to the industrial sector that shows individual attributes, social contexts, as well as participation and knowledge, which can have cumulative effect on WTP.WTP for adequate electricity is one of the key measures for sustainable economic growth for reliable and sensible management of forecasted energy demand. Conclusions: In spite of plethora of literature on electricity management and WTP, the solutions presented by different researchers are limited in scope. Still many researchers are working on tool contributions, but most of them are only providing solutions for specific regions and communities. There is a need to develop a generic electricity management system with tracing the industrialists’ willingness to pay for adequate electricity supply in a customized manner as a generic solution. The present researcher is hopeful that this work accomplishes this need. Implications: Required strict policy regulations at governing level and effective programming at implementation at industry level.

The present paper illustrates the role of industry in economic and social development of Romania, in the context of the propagated effects of the contemporary economic and financial crisis and mission that is in the recovery of gaps in relation to EU countries. The dynamic of the industrial sector after 1989, highlighting the continuing decline in its contribution to the GDP formation and changing industry structure in favor of industries producing consumer goods. The situation has changed, however, after the crisis, the industry producing capital goods coming back in force, and hosting the entire sector. Significant is that the development of the Romanian industry must integrate into a viable and sustainable formula, scientific research and technological development with environmental quality. Moreover, the qualitative and quantitative dimensions of industrial development in Romania should be integrated in the dynamic dimensions of the EU, with all the implications and costs derived from this, in the short term. The plea for industrial development in the post-crisis period is supported by the need to ensure a solid foundation for the development of other economic activities specific to the primary and tertiary sectors.

Through the lens of the collective memory theory, this article examines issues of community integration, within the context of fostering a sense of affinity and connection in a network society. The author ponders the proportion of significance of the past on a macro- and micro-level. The main goal of the researcher is to display the role of a network in developing individual and collective identity, while focusing on the following problems: if the past plays such a vital role in processes of integration on a macro-level, does it play as crucial a role on the micro-level; does addressing the past develop or sustain itself within a network; can “network proclivity” in collective memory be considered an effective mechanism for developing attitudes. In other words, the significance (or lack thereof) of past experience (collective memory) is brought into question. This article presents certain mechanisms for integrating society by means of using reminders from the past. Also, based on analyzing polls which were conducted throughout the last twenty years, it is revealed how specific events in Poland’s recent history have played out in collective memory. The author presents interpretations, hypotheses, as well as arguments and counterarguments with regard to the connection between the network nature of social life and the development of various forms of connection to the past. The results of the study indicate that participation in a network has an insignificant effect on one’s interpretation of events from the recent past. Also highlighted is the fact that individuals who directly participated in certain events are the most trustworthy source of knowledge of the past. This confirms the hypothesis that modern networks do have an effect on choosing traditions, and therefore on their transformation on a macro-level.

This article focuses on a major human factors–related issue that includes the undeniable role of cultural factors and cockpit automation and their serious impact on flight crew performance, communication, and aviation safety. The report concentrates on the flight crew performance of the Boeing 777–Asiana Airlines Flight 214 accident, by exploring issues concerning mode confusion and autothrottle systems. It also further reviews the vital role of cultural factors in aviation safety and provides a brief overview of past, related accidents. Automation progressions have been created in an attempt to design an error-free flight deck. However, to do that, the pilot must still thoroughly understand every component of the flight deck – most importantly, the automation. Otherwise, if pilots are not completely competent in terms of their automation, the slightest errors can lead to fatal accidents. As seen in the case of Asiana Flight 214, even though engineering designs and pilot training have greatly evolved over the years, there are many cultural, design, and communication factors that affect pilot performance. It is concluded that aviation systems designers, in cooperation with pilots and regulatory bodies, should lead the strategic effort of systematically addressing the serious issues of cockpit automation, human factors, and cultural issues, including their interactions, which will certainly lead to better solutions for safer flights.
