Bioethics education for practicing nurses in Taiwan: Confucian-western clash

To understand the gaps between current bioethics education and the requirements of practicing nurses, a semistructured questionnaire was used to invite the directors of nursing departments at all 82 teaching hospitals in Taiwan to participate in this survey. The response rate was 64.6%. Through content analysis we obtained information about previous bioethical training, required themes and content, recommended teaching strategies, and difficulties with education and its application. The results suggest that Taiwanese nursing personnel need to be instilled with both self-cultivation of morality and mental cultivation to acquire nursing virtues and the right attitudes toward bioethical issues. Good communication skills to prevent damage to the harmonious relationships between patients, their families and medical team members, policies that support the provision of systematic formal knowledge of ethics, small group training, and clarification of values were also shown to be important in bioethics education.

Good communication is required to build and maintain mutual relationship in project teams. This is because effective communication can enable a work team to achieve their goals. This stems from the fact that when the employees understand the management expectations and target goals, they will be able to do their work task based on the required standard. Also, effective communication is critical to the success of team work because the ability to work together without issues is determined by conveying the right information at the right. However, despite the crucial role played by effective communication in a productive work environment, it was found that Matrix Coating Resource Sdn Bhd (MCR) often experience communication issues among the workforce and this result to workplace conflict and employee relationship issues. It was on this note that this consultancy project critically examined the communications and employee relationships practices of MCR in order to determine key areas required to improve project tasks completion. A sample of 50 respondents were chosen from the workforce using both interview and questionnaire instruments. The study found that the staff of Matrix often experience communication issues and this leads to disagreements and misunderstanding among the workforce. This is because proper communication using appropriate channel can help to ease both the number and severity of workplace conflicts. Driven by this, it was proposed that the management of Matrix should do well to employ people with solid communication skills because this will allow them to work together cohesively and professionally, address the issue through training exercises and behaviour modeling. It should conduct constant training programmes especially for the new staff so as to improve their ability to communicate clearly and concisely with colleagues and work team members, include communication skills in the appraisal of employees’ performance and tie the organization’s objectives into performance appraisal so as to achieve the goals of the company and develop team building exercises to strengthen intra-office relationship. This is because high performance teams often become more cohesive overtime as they gain experiences working and communicating with other teams in the workplace. Therefore, exciting activities such as informal networking groups, team exercises and others so as to enable the staff to work together in a cohesive way. The team building process will allow the team members to learn the best ways to work together through team experience without issues.

<p><em>Most engineering students today lack content in their subjects (technical &amp; non-technical) and are unable to perform in the job place because of their haziness.  Reports say that a majority of the engineering graduates in our nation find themselves  extremely difficult to seek employment opportunities.  These Engineering graduates lack content along with required skills for right employment.  To improve the content and confidence, there exists a need for integrating quality into the technical education system especially in the English language laboratory because every aspect of employment process includes good communication skills.   Laboratory is the only platform where a student can learn and improve many things within the academic schedule.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>The statistics of the AICTE reveals the facts that, with over 3,000 colleges in the nation<strong> </strong>churning out 14 lakh graduates annually, there tends to occur a dip in quality that can be overcome only with the parallel increase of facilities amongst other factors.  To bring about well-rounded graduates with the right technical and language competence, colleges must adopt student-centered method of learning which should aim at developing learner autonomy and independence.</em></p>

Rapid response teams (RRTs) are complex with various team members and thus accurate communication is important to minimize error. The concept of team effort and delegation/sharing of responsibilities during a medical crisis should be present from the onset. As more responders arrive at the scene, the situation has the potential to become disorganized without consistent communication and leadership. By identifying specific roles and responsibilities, promoting use of good communication skills during crisis and practicing effective team work will help to minimize error. In this chapter, we review the communication and coordination skills required before, during, and after the activation of an RRT.

Communication is fundamental and vital to all administrative functions and communication is a means of transmitting information and making oneself understood by another or others, Sanchez & Guo (2005). Good communication skills are very important to ones success as an administrator, Yate (2009). This paper discusses how the lack of communication can affect production within organizations and provides guidelines on how both management and employees can create effectiveness by improving their communication skills. Various methods including surveys, questionnaires and interviews will be used through a descriptive research to generate the information that will guide the research. Person’s communication skills affect both personal and organisational effectiveness, Brun (2010); summers (2010). It seems reasonable to conclude that one of the most inhibiting forces to organisational effectiveness is a lack of effective communication, Lutgen-Sandvik (2010). The purpose of this study is to investigate the lack of communication between management and staff in different organizations. The objective is to identify the causes for miscommunication between management and staff, to investigate the kind of effects that the lack of communication would have on different organizations, to provide recommendations on improving the lack of communication, between management and staff throughout organizations.

<p>ABSTRACT</p><p><br />The development of information technology has touched various joints of human life, especially the development of the internet. The development of the internet forms a new world where every individual has the right and ability to interact with other individuals indefinitely. The objectives of the research are (1) The influence of service quality on consumer satisfaction in accessing online shop website, (2) To know the influence of attitude and trust toward online shop shop user and (3) Influence of satisfaction to consumer loyalty online shop. Data analysis method used is included in the category of quantitative data analysis is a data analysis using statistical instruments. Statistical instruments used are Chi Square Test and performed using SPSS (Statistical Package For Social Science) software. The results of model fit testing showed that the four factors (cultural, economic, social and ethical) that have the most contigency coefficient on consumer behavior in accessing online shop site are Social variables. This means showing a group of people or individuals having a relationship between consumers with each other in choosing products through an online shop site and building good communication in choosing products and knowing the risks faced when buying products through online shop site.</p><p>Keywords: Consumer Behavior, Use of On-Line Website Access Shop</p>

Michael Goldbloom explains how his education in Liberal Arts and Law has helped him pursue careers as varied as lawyer, newspaper publisher, community leader and now, Principal of Bishop’s University. He believes that learning good communication skills in elementary and secondary school as well as interacting with others in an effective and respectful way are key elements to any future career. His family’s emphasis on education and community involvement was critically important to the educational and career choices he made. He makes a case for the model of the small university as an ideal community for young people to develop their academic skills, participate in sports or artistic pursuits, contribute to student life and forge relationships with fellow students and professors. Lastly, Mr. Goldbloom supports the idea that entrepreneurship should be a key ingredient in postsecondary education, not just for business students, but for all students to have the ability to manage their careers.

Much has been added to our knowledge of effective physician-patient communication by the research of the past two decades. Good communication skills are especially important for the clinician dealing with a migraine patient, as neither laboratory tests nor diagnostic physical findings are available to assist the physician in diagnosis and treatment. It is important for clinicians to understand that effective communication skills can be taught and learned and that, once mastered, they have the potential to improve patient outcomes.

If you are still in school or college, then you have the opportunity to learn and master English. If you have graduated from school or college, you should be ready to enter the world of work with the English skills needed by your place of work. To acquire good communication skills or to excel in communication skills, one has to acquire expertise in all the four skills. They are Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Before students are able to master these 4 skills, students have to develop interest towards the subject or language. This is where the important role of the teacher will appear.

Abstract Background Practice nurses have an important role in promoting healthy eating to prevent or delay long-term complications from chronic lifestyle-related diseases. Objective To identify the facilitators and barriers encountered by practice nurses at a professional level when promoting healthy eating among patients. Methods Face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted with 21 Dutch practice nurses. Data were recorded, transcribed and analysed using inductive thematic analysis. Results Two main themes were determined: professional characteristics and professional–patient encounter. Professional characteristics included good communication skills and experience facilitated the successful promotion of healthy eating, while a lack of communication skills and lack of knowledge about diet were perceived as barriers. The most frequently identified facilitators for professional–patient encounter included ensuring a personal connection with patients, creating food awareness, focussing on small changes, adopting a tailored approach, motivating and arranging extra consultations. Barriers included lack of skills to raise the topic, lack of persistence, inability to find a common understanding, lack of competence in handling patients’ own choices and underuse of existing educational materials. Conclusions Further research using the identified facilitators and barriers for promoting healthy eating in primary care patients with chronic diseases could assist in the development of future training programmes for practice nurses.

Healthcare professionals need good communication skills to be able to communicate with patients. In such provider-patient communication, the professional needs to be well understood by the patient, but also be able to understand subtle parts of a medical history taking dialogue with worried, sick or mentally affected patients. Virtual Patients (VPs) – learning environments that simulate encounters between a patient and a physician – were used to prepare 26 immigrating professionals in Swedish for healthcare practitioners. The professionals were speaking nine different foreign languages and used two different VP systems to train patient communication. Almost all participants welcomed the use of VPs for training communication in healthcare Swedish and 19 of the 26 users indicated that they considered that VPs should be mandatory to use in future courses. Targeted individual training in provider-patient communication with Virtual Patients seems to be of great educational value and well accepted by immigrating healthcare professionals.
