Anthropology is a dynamic discipline that has a cut-out task to provide solutions to the challenges faced by the world societies. While contribution of Anthropology is recognized in most parts of the world, India, particularly after the mid-1980s, has shown its reluctance to respond to various problems and, subsequently, ignored by planners, policymakers, administrators, and even other sister disciplines. Anthropologists have the vast knowledge of human societies, methodology, experience, and communicative skills to provide solutions to those problems. Therefore, there is an urgent need to revive the zeal of anthropologists to respond to all sorts of problems being faced by India and take the lead in providing solutions to those problems. Otherwise, anthropology may be marginalized further, and it may be suicidal for the discipline as also for its practitioners.

The paper deals with the problem of identity in modern interpretations of the phenomenon in the context of postmodernism and metamodernism. In today’s information society, there is an increasing interest in issues related to the existence of man: the meaning of his life, freedom and responsibility, understanding of oneself as a subject of social action, etc. Among them, a special attention should be paid to the topic of identity of an individual as preserving oneself in the form of a semantic and value integrity throughout one’s own life.In recent years, a version of the crisis of identity as a deformation of its integrity has become popular. Social reality, which had previously formed a stable system of values and cultural traditions with its stability, has undergone profound changes. It became more dynamic, the informational aspect of its existence came out on top, the outlook on the value of family, marriage, career, profession, education and, ultimately, the meaning of the person himself has changed. They began to talk about him as a person without values, as a «leaving nature».In the concept of postmodernism, the problem of identity sounded through the theme of its crisis state as erosion of ideological and value orientations grounding on the fact that in the era of information globalism, a person loses his ethno-cultural certainty. He becomes a «citizen of the world», and therefore is open to the values and traditions of other cultures. This deforms one’s identity, blurs its integrity and reports a certain unpredictability of social acts and actions. The philosophical reflection of metamodernism, or post-postmodernism, turns the problem of identity into another plane. A new image of the world, created with the help of the World Wide Web, has formed a virtual reality as an information communication space. In this regard, the value of the subject of communication developed through the ability to build a productive dialogue with the community on the other side of the screen and the ability to adapt quickly to the changing information situation. These qualities were a condition for a person to realize his own value as a carrier of adequate self-perception in the system of information dialogue. They also became the basis for a new reading of the subject’s identity as a formed ability for information communication, the purpose of which is the productive nature of mutual understanding of the interacting parties. Thus, in the reflection of modern philosophizing, a new meaning, or rather, reformation of identity, appears as the correspondence of one’s communicative skills to the needs of today’s time.

In many EFL classrooms in Colombia, it is evident how students struggle trying to use English to communicate; nonetheless, with the revolution of ICTs that has taken place in the last years, there is a variety of tools available to support English learning autonomously with applications, blogs, and online courses; however, many of these tools were not originally designed for teaching but can be adapted for such purpose. TED is a website and a downloadable application where videos are shared in which you can see a wide variety of English speakers born in many parts around the world speaking in a fun and familiar manner with the audience about various topics of interest that besides, come along with cultural content, which extends the range of accents, words, expressions, and ways of referring to the same topic. In this action research, we propose a reflection on the incidence of TED talks on the teaching and learning of English as a foreign language. The instruments used to collect data were interviews, questionnaires, and teacher journals. The use of these videos provided the students with all the communicative elements that allowed them to use English to express their ideas. This offers a glimpse of how useful authentic videos and subtitles are when encouraging students to learn English.

Developing English for communicative purposes is a key objective of language classes in many parts of the world. As a logical prerequisite to communication practice, learners need to have Willingness to Communicate (WTC) before they will engage in L2 interaction (Macintyre et al., 1998). Teachers can play an important role in helping learners to develop WTC (Dörnyei, 2007), however, since research into this topic is relatively recent, not much is known about how teachers go about this process. For this reason, the present study investigated teachers’ perceptions of their role in fostering WTC through interviews and questionnaires and compared these with observations of their classroom practices. The research was conducted in New Zealand ESOL class that focused predominantly on communicative skills, catering mostly to Asian learners. The results showed that teachers believed they play a key role in helping learners to develop WTC and identified a range of strategies they used in class. Classroom observations confirmed the use of some strategies although no explicit encouragement of language practice outside the classroom was made. This paper identifies some possible reasons for this mismatch and concludes with practical recommendations for ESOL teachers who wish to support learners’ WTC.

The article is devoted to the analysis of functional mechanisms of persuasive speech formulas, namely, linguoculturemes (ethnic, cultural stereotypes, mythologemes, and precedent phenomena) in the defensive speeches of Ukrainian lawyers in Galicia in the beginning of 20th century. The purpose of the paper is to investigate the interaction between historical, political and sociocultural factors and strategies of linguoculturemes’ usage. The phenomenon of the rhetorical scheme is analyzed from the standpoint of extralinguistic context. The rhetorical scheme is considered as a set of rhetorical communicative instruments by which the speaker relays his own rhetorical picture of the world in order to influence the common socio-cultural communicative space. Linguoculturemes are described as essential media of historical, political, and cultural discourse in persuasive speeches. The main strategies of communicative formulas in defensive speeches of Ukrainian barristers of Galicia are analyzed. The strategy of selection of linguoculturemes was in keeping with the traditions of the Austro-Hungarian judiciary but also the desire to establish Ukrainian national identity. All precedent phenomena were used due to the imperial model of the world and achievements of the Polish people. However, at the beginning of the twentieth century, under the imperial regime, attempts to form a rhetorical scheme of defensive speeches focused on Ukrainian values and statehood can be noticed. The article considers the essence of defensive speech as an example of the official communication linked to social context in two ways: the extralinguistic conditions affect the speech structure, and the speaker, in turn, selects certain communicative formulas (linguoculturemes) to establish the linguocultural identity. The future tendencies of Ukrainian judicial rhetoric are the improvement of the communicative skills of the lawyers-rhetoricians, the rejection of Russian legal stamps, and the reactivation of traditional Ukrainian linguoculturemes.

ommunication involves freedom and unpredictability. In the so called “conversation practice”, the students utter pre-written dialogue. There is no freedom, no choice and no unpredictability. Traditional teachers never gave them a chance and deprive the learners of freedom by giving them the correct response or interpretations. They avoid all vocabulary and structural items that are not prescribed. They will explain all new ideas and concepts in advance, leaving nothing unpredictable or undecided. Thus the learner fails to get a chance to manage himself/herself. Now a days, this communicative skills are widely adopted in many parts of the world to teach the second and foreign language. The English as a foreign and second language our teachers have felt that the ultimate aim of language forms are taught to the pupils with a belief that their knowledge would lead to the use of those forms in communication. But their transfer from form to use is not taking place in the majority of cases. Therefore, there is a growing feeling that teaching should be communicative centered based on activities.

Interaction between people is a cornerstone of being human. Despite huge developments in languages and communicative skills, interaction often fails, which causes problems and costs in everyday life and work. An inability to conduct dialogue also produces conflicts between groups of people, states and religions. Therefore, there are good reasons to claim that miscommunication and failures in interaction are among the most serious problems in the world. Researchers from different fields - linguistics, sociology, anthropology, psychology, brain research, philosophy - have tried to tackle this complex phenomenon. Their method-driven approaches enrich our understanding of the features of interaction in many ways. However, what is lacking is an understanding of the very essence of interaction, which needs a more holistic, phenomenon-driven approach. The aim of this paper is to show that the only way to reach this goal is multidisciplinarity, that is, using the results and methods of different fields of research. This is not an easy goal and task because the way of thinking and doing research varies greatly discipline-wise. A further obstacle is the researchers training, which, as a rule, focuses on the tradition of only one field of research. The Multidimensional Model of Interaction provides a good framework for a more holistic approach to interaction by viewing the complex phenomenon from different angles. The model includes various phases of the process of interaction, beginning with the choice of the topic by the speaker and ending with identification of the reference by the recipient, as well as the mental worlds of the interlocutors (knowledge, attitudes, values, emotional state etc.), recipient design (accommodation of speech) and external circumstances.
