This study aims to evaluate the effect of labor dance on traumatic childbirth perception and comfort. This is a randomized controlled experimental study. The study was conducted with 120 primiparous pregnant women (60 in experiment group, 60 in control group). The pregnant women in the experiment group performed labor dance with the researcher midwife during the active phase of labor. The researcher implemented the Childbirth Comfort Questionnaire (CCQ) when the cervical dilation was 8 cm. The Postpartum Comfort Scale (PCS) and Traumatic Childbirth Perception Scale (TCPS) were implemented almost 2 hours after giving birth. The scores of the women in the experiment group in TCPS were significantly lower than those in the control group while their mean scores in CCQ and PCS were significantly higher. Labor dance contributed to the women’s more positive childbirth experiences, perceptions of childbirth as less traumatic, and increased their comfort levels.

Purpose This project developed and evaluated the efficacy of a game decision aid among pregnant women about prenatal screening in a randomized controlled study. Study Design Participants were recruited from an obstetric clinic of an academic urban medical center and randomized (n = 73) to one of two study groups: the control group (n = 39) that used a brochure or the intervention group (n = 34) that also used a game decision aid. Result Participants who played the game had higher knowledge scores (m = 21.41, standard deviation [SD] = 1.74) than participants in the control group (m = 19.59; SD = 3.31), p = 0.004. The median time of game playing was 6:43 minutes (range: 2:17–16:44). The groups were similar in frequency of completing screening after the study, control = 6 (15%) versus intervention = 11 (32%), p = 0.087. However, the more interaction with the game resulted in more positive attitudes toward screening. Conclusion The addition of a game decision aid was effective in educating pregnant women about prenatal screening. As other genetic testing decisions continue to increase within clinical care, game-based decision tools may be a constructive method of informed decision-making.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to assess the effects of floral therapy in the face of factors that boost pain in the parturition process and its results in the duration of labor. Methods: this is a randomized, controlled and triple-blind clinical trial. We selected 164 pregnant women with gestational age ≥37 weeks, cervical dilation ≥4 cm, randomly divided into floral therapy and placebo group. Results: the Five Flower floral essence proved to be effective, considering the factors that boost pain in labor. Experimental Group did not show an increase in contractions, unlike Control Group, which presented an increase of one contraction for mothers in active phase and amniorrhexis. The Five Flower essence proved to be effective in reducing labor time by 1:30h from the beginning of the intervention at birth. Conclusions: floral therapy proved to be effective in pain management, reflecting positively in its brevity, qualifying its outcome.

Objectives: This study was aimed to examine the effects of physical support during the childbirth period on the birth process. Methods: Research is an experimental randomized controlled study. In the study group, each pregnant woman was directly assisted by using non-pharmacological methods without leaving the woman during her birth. Simultaneous evaluations were made to the control group with routine hospital procedures. Wijma Delivery Expectancy/ Experience Questionnaire (W-DEQ)-A was applied to all pregnant women before delivery. Wijma Delivery Expectancy/ Experience Questionnaire (W-DEQ)-B version and The Scale for Measuring Maternal Satisfaction at Normal and Cesarean Birth were completed to all pregnant women after delivery. Results: The need for induction at birth decreased for women who were offered physical support (p = 0.033). The duration of labor for the study group was 657,93 ± 283.69 min. while the control group had 1062,43 ± 673.11 min. (p = 0.004) and the difference between them is statistically significant were determined (p=0,004). It was determined that the rate of episiotomy (p=0,000), fundal press (p=0,000) and fear of birth (p=0,001) decreased after birth. Also, women were found to have higher birth satisfaction (p = 0.001). Conclusion: It was determined that the physical support applied during the active phase of birth affects the birth process positively.

This is a randomized controlled study to determine whether diet and exercise interventions can reduce the incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in pregnant women with high-risk factors. Ninety-four pregnant women were randomly divided into the intervention ( n = 47) and control ( n = 47) groups. A diet and exercise program was provided for the intervention group by researchers and was adjusted every 2 weeks by outpatient or WeChat intervention. The control group only received the routine health management in the hospital. Follow-up continued until the birth of the baby. The incidence of GDM (23.9%) in the intervention group was lower than in the control group (51.1%) ( p = .007). Weight gain did not differ significantly between the two groups throughout pregnancy ( p = .572). It is concluded that diet and exercise interventions can reduce the incidence of GDM in pregnant women with high-risk factors.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of antenatal education on birth fear, depression, anxiety, stress, childbirth self-efficacy, and mode of delivery in primiparous pregnant women. This is a single-blind, prospective, randomized controlled trial, in which we applied the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) statement. The study was conducted in a city in Turkey’s Central Anatolia region, and the data collection process was made between April and September 2019. One hundred and twenty primiparous pregnant women were assigned to either the antenatal education group ( n = 60) or the control group ( n = 60) via randomized block assignment. A total of 112 women were evaluated at the end of the study. Pregnant women in the antenatal education group were given two 2-hr sessions (240 min) twice a week for 4 weeks. It was found that those in the antenatal education group had less birth fear, depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms and increased childbirth self-efficacy compared to controls ( p < 0.05). Those in the antenatal education group had significantly lower postnatal birth fear, depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms compared to controls ( p < 0.001). More vaginal births occurred in the antenatal education group compared to controls ( p = 0.043). According to the outcome of this evidence-based study: antenatal education has important clinical benefits for women both during pregnancy and in the postpartum period and all pregnant women should receive this education.

Aim and Objective: This study aimed to explore the plasma free amino acid (FAA) and carnitine levels in pregnant women with cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP), and to compare them with those of healthy pregnant women. Materials and Methods: This prospective and randomized controlled study was conducted in patients admitted to Harran University Medical Faculty Hospital Obstetrics Clinic between January 2018 and January 2019. A total of 60 patients were included in the study, and the patients were divided into two groups: CSP group (n = 30) and healthy pregnant group as the control group (n = 30). The blood samples were taken from the participants between 7 - 12 weeks of gestation. Twentyseven carnitines and their esters and 14 FAAs were analysed by liquid chromatography – mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Results: The mean plasma concentrations of some carnitines, including C2, C5, C5-OH, C5-DC, C6, C8-1, C12, C14, C14- 1, C14-2, C16, C16-1, C18, and C18-1 were significantly higher in CSP group than in the control group. However, other carnitines, including C0, C3, C4, C4-DC, C5-1, C6-DC, C8, C8-DC, C10, C10-1, C18-1-OH, and C18-2 were similar in both groups. The plasma levels of some FAAs, including Methyl Glutaryl, Leu, Met, Phe, Arg, Orn, and Glu values were significantly higher in CSP group than in the control group. However, there was no statistically significance in other FAA levels, including Val, Asa, Tyr, Asp, Ala, Cit, and Gly between the two groups. Additionally, Pearson’s correlation analysis showed that there were significantly positive correlations between many FAA and carnitine values. Conclusion: Since several plasma carnitine and FAA levels were higher in CSP group than in the control group, we think that scar pregnancy increases metabolic need for myometrial invasion. Also, we think that these results may be useful in clinical practice for CSP diagnosis.

Background. Abdominal and lumbo-pelvic stability alterations may be the origin of lower limb injuries, such as adductor pathology in soccer players. Imbalance can be caused by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Methods: In this randomized controlled trial over 8 weeks, 25 female footballers were randomly allocated to an experimental group (isometric abdominal training and gluteus medius-specific training) or a control group (isometric abdominal training). Evaluations were performed at baseline, at the end of the intervention and after a 4-week follow-up period. The exercise protocol in common for both groups included three exercises: Plank, Lateral plank and Bird dog. Specific exercises for the gluteus medius were: Pelvic drop and Stabilization of the gluteus medius in knee valgus. Outcome measures were lumbar-pelvic stability and adductor strength. Results: After the intervention, there was an increase in lumbo-pelvic stability in both groups, being greater in the control group than in the experimental group (mean differences [MD]: 4.84 vs. MD: 9.58; p < 0.01) with differences in the analysis of repeated measures (p < 0.001), but not in group interaction (p = 0.26). Changes were found in adductor strength in the experimental group (MD: −2.48; p < 0.001 in the left adductor; MD: −1.48; p < 0.01 in right adductor) and control group (MD: −1.68; p < 0.001 in the left adductor; MD: −2.05; p < 0.001 in the right adductor) after the intervention, with differences in the analysis of repeated measures in left (p < 0.001) and right (p < 0.001) adductor strength. Conclusions: An abdominal and gluteal training protocol shows no advantage over a protocol of abdominal training alone for lumbo-pelvic stability and adductor strength, while improvements in both variables are maintained at four weeks follow-up.

Abstract Background TheraTogs promotes proprioceptive sense of a child with cerebral palsy and improves abnormal muscle tone, posture alignment, balance, and gait. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of TheraTogs orthotic undergarment on gait pattern in children with dyskinetic cerebral palsy. Thirty children with dyskinetic cerebral palsy were selected for this randomized controlled study. They were randomly assigned to (1) an experimental group that received TheraTogs orthotic undergarment (12 h/day, 3 days/week) plus traditional physical therapy for 3 successive months and (2) a control group that received only traditional physical therapy program for the same time period. Gait parameters were measured at baseline and after 3 months of intervention using Pro-Reflex motion analysis. Results Children in both groups showed significant improvements in the gait parameters (P < 0.05), with significantly greater improvements in the experimental group than in the control group. Conclusions The use of TheraTogs may have a positive effect to improve gait pattern in children with dyskinetic cerebral palsy. Purpose. It has been well documented that nursing students across the world experience stress and anxiety throughout their education and training. The purpose of this randomized controlled study is to investigate the impact of biofeedback intervention program on nursing students' levels of stress and anxiety during their first clinical training. Methods. Participants consisted of 60 second-year baccalaureate nursing students. The 30 participants in the biofeedback group received training on how to use the biofeedback device to assist in stress and anxiety management for 5 weeks while the 30 in the control group did not receive any training. Findings. Results indicated that the biofeedback group was able to maintain the stress level while the control group had a significant increase in the stress level over the 5-week period of clinical training. Additionally, the biofeedback group had a significant reduction in anxiety, while the control group had a moderate increase in anxiety. Conclusions. The better the nursing students can manage their stress and anxiety, the more successful they can be in their clinical training. Ultimately, the more psychologically healthy the nursing students are, the more likely they will flourish and graduate to become productive and contributing members of the nursing profession.

The present double-blinded, randomized controlled study sought to compare the effects of a full-body manual massage (MM) and a foam rolling (FR) intervention on subjective and objective indexes of performance and well-being. A total of 65 healthy individuals were randomly allocated to an FR, MM, or a control group who received a cognitively oriented relaxation routine. Self-report ratings of perceived anxiety, muscle relaxation, and muscle pain were used to index changes in affect and physical sensations. The sit-and-reach and toe-touch tests, as well as a mental calculation task, were used to index motor and cognitive performances, respectively. We also conducted resting-state electroencephalography and continuous skin conductance recordings before and after the experimental intervention. Both FR and MM groups exhibited neural synchronization of alpha and beta oscillations during the posttest. Skin conductance increased from the pretest to the posttest in the relaxation group, but decreased in the FR group. All interventions improved range of motion, although only the MM group outperformed the relaxation group for the toe-touch performance. MM was associated with reduced muscle pain and increased muscle relaxation. Reduced perceived anxiety after the intervention was observed in the FR group only. Overall, MM and FR both improved objective and subjective indexes of performance and well-being. Differences between the two massage interventions are discussed in relation to the effects of pressure stimulation on autonomic regulations and the proactive vs. retroactive nature of FR, compared to MM.
