John Allen Chau (27), a Christian preacher and a US citizen, was shot dead on 16 November 2018 in the North Sentinel Island with a flurry of arrows by the most isolated tribe in the world, the Sentinelese. Chau illegally entered the prohibited area with the help of local fishermen for trying to interact with the uncontacted people in his effort to preach Christianity among them. In the island, he was shot and killed by the inhabitants. The tragic death of Chau is a matter of grief indeed. But, what is equally distressing is the report that the Andaman police have registered a criminal case for murder against the unknown tribesmen. The tribesmen living there are, perhaps, the only truly isolated hunter-gatherer tribal community in the world today. Their isolation is a sort of self-imposed isolation or isolation by preference. Till today, they have maintained their independent existence, repelling all attempts to engage with and contact them with the might of their bows and arrows. In the present article, an attempt has been made, in the light of historical and anthropological evidences, to discuss the context of this incident and the discourse it has generated.

The present article is about the presence of the tv in the society, in general, and its potential as an important agent, such as the family and the school, on the children’s and young people’s development and education. Nowadays we live in a complex world of images with sound, the most of them transmitted by the tv, the cinema and the internet. The infantile universe is full of those images. This way we structured this article in four parts, refering some of the contents related with this subject. The first part describes the presence of the television in the children's daylife and their relationship with the magic box, even the identification that they make with its favourites characters, in order to understand the space that the TV occupies in their lives. The second part presents the different messages transmitted by the television. It is important to analyze the main risks and advantages of television, that is to say, in spite of some programs show bad values, foment the excessive consumption, expose the children to an atmosphere of violence and pornography, also entertains, accompanies, educates, informs, favours the access to the culture and allows to unite the family around a program. At last the third part, this one outlines the necessity to put the tele as a curricular resource in the school, to teaches the students how to analyze, how to criticize and to think about the texts and the news of the world today. The television, considered a powerful tool, is decisive in the communication, such in the formation of values and ideas as in the culture transmission. The function of the school is not to remain far from this factor, but to try to meditate, to understand and to decide its impact, in a better way, on the development of the children and youngs. As conclusion we can add that we’ve tried to aim some strategies that educators and parents will be able to work, united to the children and the youngs, so they could have a new look of the Tv’s world and that they could know how to make their own selection and how to have a critical attitude before the watched product.

Something new is going on in the world today. Rather than world trade being dependent on world peace, as in times past, world peace may be influenced and brought nearer reality through burgeoning world trade. The author, President of The Coca-Cola Company, has developed this theme in several recent speeches. Here he has condensed his remarks into the present article. He makes a good case to show that trade is crossing borders still closed to diplomats—making greater progress for peace than official conferences.

Ecofeminism grows from the idea that a woman’s ethics are closer to nature than a man’s and it revalue feminine traits. Women are seen in sync with nature, working in union with it, while men have a hierarchical relationship with nature in which their actions try to dominate it. This view poses the idea that men’s control over nature has created an ecological crisis in much of the world today. Ecofeminists look for non-violent solutions to world problems. They consider feminine values necessary for survival in the conditions of the world's patriarchy. And while ecofeminists may subscribe to liberal, radical, or Marxist/socialist thought, their main focus is on ecology—both of nature and human systems.

Tendo o sermão por base, o artigo evidencia que a literatura se vale de aspectos e episódios do mundo em que é produzida, para transfigurá-los e devolvê-los ao leitor, em forma de ficção, conscientizando-o das denúncias de que é porta-voz.********************************************************************“Sermão de Santo Antônio aos peixes” or the metaphor of colonial Portuguese imaginaryAbstract: The present article analyzes the criticism directed at the Portuguese colonists, which appears in the “Sermon of Saint Anthony to the Fish”, considering the context in which it was produced, aiming to identify the specificities of the historical and social moment in Maranhão and Grão Pará, which region was circumscribed to the activities of Father Antonio Vieira. The sermon was made in 1654, after Padre Vieira returned to Brazil and before he went back to Portugal again to denounce the fact that the colonists were not obeying the laws of protection to the indigenous people. Based on the sermon, the article takes the position that literature uses aspects and episodes of the world in which it is produced to transfigure them and return them to the reader in the form of fiction, making them aware of the denunciations they carry. Keywords: Sermão; Padre Vieira; Colonial Imaginary; Portugal

Two years ago an attempt was made in these pages to give a general survey of archæological events since 1899 at An-yang, in the north of Ho-nan province. Though excavation was still in progress, and investigation of results far from ended, the great interest taken by Western students called for an interim statement. This was specially needed because most of the literature of the subject is written in Chinese. Besides the clandestine activities of treasureseekers and the earlier, less organized digging by the peasants, scientific exploration had been carried out since 1928 by the National Research Institute of History and Philology of the Academia Sinica, which had published three parts of Preliminary Reports of Excavations at Anyang under the editorship of Dr. Li Chi . The main purpose of the present article is to take account of part iv, which appeared in 1933 after my former article was written, and includes the results of excavation during 1931 and 1932.

This article examines three major patterns of violence in Christian theological thought traditions: supersessionism (the idea that Christianity replaced Judaism), realized eschatology (the presentation of a promised future of reconciliation as basically already present in the world today), and inclusivism (the Christian impulse to integrate others as a universalist aim). Previous scholars have examined these patterns separately, but they have not previously been discussed in a comprehensive effort to analyze Christian thinking habits of degrading others, in particular Judaism. The author's inquiry into structures of thought suggests methodologically that interreligious violence is a highly complex phenomenon that can actually be reduced or increased.  Indeed, much progress has been made in the last third of the twentieth century by mainstream churches to renounce supersessionism. But while the discourse with regard to realized eschatology and inclusivism still needs to be developed, one of the key findings here is that all three patterns entail a denigration of law, which in itself still remains at play in Christianity’s relation to Judaism but also in its relation to Islam.

In the North American context, one trend in introductory Protestant Christian ethics texts is clear: the desire to draw the focus away from moral pronouncements about contemporary ‘issues’ in order to concentrate on what it means to be truly human, that is, to see the world as followers of Christ made in the image of God and to employ forms of moral reasoning appropriate to this vision. The article illuminates the particular emphases displayed in contemporary Protestant ethics texts published in the United States over the past decade as each contributes to this agenda of renewal. In conclusion, I argue that the trend toward eschewing ‘applied’ ends is laudable and yet ambiguous. I suggest this trend may also be tied to the relative gender and racial uniformity of the authors, because what is frequently absent in this collection are the social and political concerns commonly voiced by more marginalized voices.

If one thinks seriously about any of the major international trouble spots in the world today, one soon confronts the problem of what really is the “value” of, for example, Cuba, Berlin, or Laos to the United States. The view put forward in this article is that, while the question is unanswerable in a rigorous and precise sense, some useful things can be said in approaching it, and in trying to distinguish between more and less unsatisfactory answers to it. In principle, of course, the value of other countries to the United States includes that of the advanced countries, and, most significantly, of Western Europe. The present article, however, will be primarily concerned with the value of less-developed countries to the United States, and with their value in certain extreme contingencies over a time period that is relatively short from the standpoint of history, though somewhat longer from the standpoint of economics.
