In this study we attempted to explore the effect of authentic leadership on followers’ feedback reactions in the performance appraisal context using trust in leader as the mediating variable. We collected data from a sample of 183 employees working in the information technology sector of Pakistan using a self-administered questionnaire, employing a cross-sectional study design with convenience sampling technique. The study provided empirical evidence about the effect of authentic leadership on performance feedback reactions and the associated mediating mechanism. It drew on authentic leadership theory and investigated why such a leadership style was important in making the performance appraisal process successful and effective. As hypothesized, authentic leadership significantly predicted perceived feedback accuracy and utility (two feedback reactions in performance appraisal). Our findings confirmed that there was a significant mediating effect of trust in leaders between authentic leadership and performance feedback reactions. The inferences drawn based on the results suggested that raters’ authenticity in performance appraisal context creates a trusting situation and leads to ratees’ perception of feedback accuracy and utility.

AbstractWhile different antecedents have been examined to explain peoples’ reactions towards COVID-19, there is only scarce understanding about the role of the subjective closeness and distance to the pandemic. Within the current study, we applied the concept of psychological distance to understand the distance towards COVID-19 and investigated its (1) connection with preventive attitudes and proactive behaviors, (2) context-specific antecedents, and its (3) mediating effect of knowledge on attitudes. Using an online sample from a German quantitative cross-sectional study (N = 395, M = 32.2 years, SD = 13.9 years, 64.3% female) in July 2020, a time with a general low incidence of people infected with Sars-CoV2, we measured relevant socio-psychological constructs addressing COVID-19 and included further information from external sources. Based on a path model, we found geographical distance as a significant predictor of cognitive attitudes towards COVID-19. Furthermore, hypothetical distance (i.e., feeling to be likely affected by COVID-19) predicted not only participants’ affective, cognitive, and behavioral attitudes, but also the installation of a corona warning-app. While several variables affected the different dimensions of psychological distance, hypothetical and geographical distance mediated the effect of knowledge on attitudes. These results underline the role of geographical and hypothetical distance for health-related behaviors and education. For example, people will only comply with preventive measures if they feel geographically concerned by the disease, which is particularly challenging for fast-spreading global diseases such as COVID-19. Therefore, there is a need to clearly communicate the personal risks of diseases and address peoples’ hypothetical distance.

Authentic leadership is a form of leadership which has received a relatively limited amount of research in sport despite the suggestion that it may be related to numerous positive outcomes in athletes. We conducted a study in sport in order to investigate proposed relationships between authentic leadership and athlete outcomes. Specifically, we investigated whether coaches’ authentic leadership is related to athletes’ achievement and moral outcomes via trust and the culture of the team. Data were collected via questionnaires. The design was a cross-sectional study with 366 (240 females, Mage = 21.07) team sport athletes. Authentic leadership was positively related to athletes’ trust and team culture. Authentic leadership was also positively related to athletes’ commitment, positive affect and perceptions of their teammates’ prosocial behaviours, via trust and team culture. Our findings enhance our understanding of authentic leadership in sport and highlight its importance in predicting crucial positive athlete outcomes.

The bond between parents and newborns is very important to note. Since the antenatal period, mothers have to get information about bounding attachments, because since the antenatal period, the relationship between mother and child based on bonds of affection must be established. The success of the Bounding Attachment is largely determined by the midwife as a birth attendant. Through the first contact between mother and baby, namely early breastfeeding initiation (IMD), joining care and continued with exclusive breastfeeding. midwives are fully responsible for its implementation, provided that the baby and mother are in good health. Because this is the most important stage to initiate affection between mother and baby. The type of research used is Analytical Survey with a Cross Sectional Study approach. The sampling technique in this study was taken by using non-random (non-probability) sampling, by purposive method. The results of the research conducted at the Batua health center showed that midwives had a very important role in supporting the success of Bounding Attachments between mothers and babies during the postpartum period. Of the 65 respondents, there were 48 mothers who got the role of a good midwife. However, only 34 (52.3%) did the Bounding Attachment and 14 (21.5%) did not. 17 respondents did not get the role of a midwife, where 5 (7.7%) respondents did the Bounding Attachment and 12 (18.5%) did not. From the results of the analysis with the Chi Square test statistical test obtained ρ = 0.003 where ρ <α = 0.05, then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It can be concluded that there is a relationship between the role of the midwife and the Bounding Attachment between mother and baby during the postpartum period.
