Abstract Background To find out any association of urethral catheterisation with rise in serum PSA. Methods This study was conducted in 80 patients of BPH who had to undergo catheterisation because of acute urinary retention. Patients were divided into two groups: Group A (n = 43 patients), age group 40–60 years, and Group B (n = 47 patients), age group 60–75 years. Values of PSA, free/total PSA and PSA density were recorded in both age groups before catheterisation and one and three days after catheterisation. Results PSA, PSA density and free/total PSA were not statistically different before and after urethral catheterisation. Conclusions In the absence of urinary tract infection, urethral catheterisation does not elevate serum PSA. PSA, PSA density and free/total PSA were not statistically different before and after urethral catheterisation.

This cross sectional, descriptive study was done in the Department of Anatomy, Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka from January to December 2009, to determine the proportion of cortex and medulla of the ovary in di_erent age group of Bangladeshi women. This study was based on collection of 140 ovaries of 70 unclaimed female dead bodies from the morgue of Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka. The samples were divided into three age-groups including A (10-13 years), B (14-45 years) & C (46-52 years). Histological slides were prepared by using routine haematoxylin and eosin stain. Ten best prepared histological slides from each age group were examined to determine the thickness of the cortex and medulla & proportion of the thickness of the cortex and the medulla of the ovary were expressed in percentages. The mean proportion of the cortex and the medulla of the right ovary were found 80.83±0.58% and 19.17±0.58% in group A, 86.95±1.14% and 13.05±1.14% in group B, 70.53±1.53% and 29.47±1.53% in group C respectively. The mean proportion of the cortex and the medulla of the left ovary were found 80.63±0.58% and 19.37±0.58% in group A, 86.78±1.14% and 13.22±1.14% in group B, 70.41±1.50% and 29.59±1.50% in group C respectively. The difference in mean proportion of the cortex and the medulla was not signi_cant in between the ovaries. However, the difference in mean proportion of the cortex and the medulla of the ovary between group A & group B, group A & group C and group B & group C were statistically significant.Bangladesh Med J. 2015 Jan; 44 (1): 8-10

ln order to study the measles antibody behavior of three vaccination schedules, 684 children were divided into 4 Groups: Group A (341 vaccinated children under the age of one); Group B (101 children at the age of one); Group C (74 children under the age of one and one at the age of one); Group D (163 unvaccinated children with a history of measles in the past - Group control). Children of Group A presented lower rates and 25.9% of the age group under two did not show any measles antibodies. In Group B, all the children presented antibodies. In Group C onby 4.0% did not. In all age groups, the geometric mean HI antibody titers of Group A were lower than the valuesfound in the other groups. The age at vaccination was the factor of greater influence on the results of this study.

Dialects can be referred to as diversity of language formats that can be distinguished through their pronunciation and grammar. Therefore, this study will examine individual perspectives and attitudes towards their dialect. In addition, this study also looked at why dialect selection was based on the situation assisted with the Language Choice Theory (1970) and Speech Accommodation Theory (1973). The research point of this study was in Samarahan, Sarawak (Desa Ilmu, Taman Samarindah and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak). A qualitative and quantitative approach was carried out on 30 respondents who were divided into three age groups ie 20 years and below (group A), age group within 21-25 years (group B) and age group 26 years and above (group C). The aggregation of ages according to this group aims to see the variation of individual dialect selection. It can be concluded that, individual relationships and their dialect selection are caused by individual attitudes and feelings in adapting their daily conversation to the situation. Keywords— individual; dialect; attitude; feeling; adaptation

Background The threshold-based (TB) trabeculated and papillary muscle mass (TPM) quantification method for cardiac MRI (CMR) calculates different values than conventional contouring techniques. We aimed to identify the sex- and age-related normal reference ranges for left ventricular (LV) myocardial mass values, volumetric and functional parameters and the correspondence of these parameters using the TB method. Methods Healthy European adults (n = 200, age: 39.4 ± 12 years, males: 100) were examined with CMR and evaluated with a TB postprocessing method. They were stratified by sex and age (Group A: 18–29, Group B: 30–39, Group C: 40–49, Group D: >50 years). The calculated parameters were indexed to body surface area (i). Results The normal reference ranges for the studied parameters were assessed in each age group. Significant biometric differences in LV parameters and mass-to-volume ratios were found between males and females, and the left ventricular compacted myocardial mass (LVCMi) and TPMi differences remained significant after stratification by age. Unlike other LV volumetric and functional parameters and mass-to-volume ratios, the TPMi, the LVCMi and the TPMi-to-LVCMi ratio did not differ among age groups in males or females. This finding was strengthened by the lack of correlation between TPMi and age. Conclusions Age- and sex-related normal reference ranges for LV volumetric and functional parameters and LVCMi and TPMi values were established using a TB postprocessing method. TPMi, LVCMi and their ratio did not change over time. The TPMi-to-LVCMi and the mass-to-volume ratios might have clinical utility in the differential diagnosis of conditions with LV hypertrabeculation.

Prospective study on the comparison of mydiriatic effect of Tropicamide 0.8% and Phenylephrine 5% in teenagers and geriatric people was carried out in suthrama Eye Hospital madanapalle, India. The main objective of this study was to compare the mydriatic effect of a combination of drug in teenagers and geriatric people. It also evaluated the ADR’s produced and the efficacy of the drug in two age groups. In this study population majority of the subjects were female in group A and male in group B. Among the whole population under study in group A and B no one has reported with any case of congenital anomalies. A number of ADR’s are reported but no serious adverse events had occurred. The study was carried out in 100 eyes ie. 50 subjects whom are divided into 2 groups based on age. The comparison of mydriatic effect was done in each group after instilling one drop of a combination of 0.08% Tropicamide and 0.5% Phenynilephrine. The pupillary size where measured before and after administration of drug and the results were compared. The results showed that there is a large difference in the normal pupil size between teenagers and geriatric people. After dilation the difference in pupil size was statistically significant among the two groups. The study concludes that the pupillary dilation produced by administering 0.8% Tropicamide and 5% Phenylephrine produces higher mydriatic effect in teenagers than geriatric people.

Background: Bronchiolitis is an acute, highly communicable lower respiratory tract infection. A variety of agents ranging from nebulised racemic epinephrine, salbutamol and routinely available levoepinephrine have been tried. The Present study was aimed at comparing the effectiveness of adrenaline and salbutamol in acute bronchiolitis in children aged 2 months to 2 years. Materials and Methods: The Present study was conducted at Nobel medical College Teaching Hospital over the period of one year from Feb 2018 to Jan 2019. Two different cohorts were identified in which clinically diagnosed cases and were grouped into Group A and Group B to receive the different drugs as per the study protocol. Respiratory Distress Assessment Instrument (RDAI) Scores was used for clinical assessment. Results: The age of the patients ranged from 2 months to 24 months with a median of 8 months. The males constituting about 57.42% of the study population of 155 patients. On comparing the prenebulisation variables with 10 and 30 minutes post nebulisation values, it was found that Both adrenaline and salbutamol caused overall significant improvement in RR (p-value <0.00001 in both groups) except in the age group of 19-24 months. Adrenaline was seen to be superior to salbutamol in decreasing the RR (p<0.0001) except for children in the age group of 19-24months. Adrenaline also caused greater rise in heart rate in comparison to salbutamol in all age groups. Conclusion: This study concludes that Adrenaline was seen to be superior to salbutamol in decreasing the RR and RDAI, although it showed variance with age.
