The participant of this study was a 40-year-old female, who mainly complained of middle thoracic stiffness and pain in extension at the mid thoracic level with hyperkyphosis, forward head and mild thoracic dextroscoliosis. The subject participated in multimodal home-based physiotherapy program with the duration of 9 months, consisting of posture exercises, soft tissue massage therapy and thoracic manipulations. Comparison of initial and final evaluation revealed the improvement in all evaluated variables, including the reduction of thoracic hyperkyphosis, forward head posture and thoracic dextroscoliosis, freer and less painful thoracic spine extension mobility, no pain in the sacroiliac joint, and increased satisfaction with the posture. There was also notable improvement in the algometry of the paraspinal muscles, equalization of functional lower-leg length and rib-pelvic distance of both sides of body. In conclusion, the proposed physiotherapy protocol can be beneficial in addressing postural faults such as thoracic hyperkyphosis, forward head and scoliosis. However, further research is needed with a larger sample.

BACKGROUND: Little is known about the frequency and nature of pain in dreams. Several authors have suggested that pain may be beyond the representational capability of dreaming.OBJECTIVE: To obtain more detailed information on the nature and prevalence of pain in a larger sample of everyday dreams collected through home logs. To examine the context within which dreamed pain occurs and to assess participants' retrospective recall of past experiences of pain in dreams.METHOD: One hundred and eighty-five participants completed a battery of questionnaires and recorded their dreams for two consecutive weeks.RESULTS: Retrospective responses to the questionnaire indicate that close to 50% of individuals report having experienced pain in their dreams at least once. A total of 3045 dreams were reported in the home dream logs. Eighteen of these dreams contained unambiguous references to the subject experiencing pain.DISCUSSION: Pain sensations in dreams are reported as being realistic, localized to a specific area of the body, typically resulting from violent encounters with other characters and often accompanied by intense affect. A model is proposed to explain how sensory experiences such as pain can be produced in the dream state.CONCLUSION: Cognitive systems that contribute to the representation of pain imagery are sometimes functional during dreaming.

ABSTRACT Objective To determine the factors affecting the quality of home based long-term care (LTC) provision for the adult bedridden patients in Chandigarh, India. Materials and methods This cross-sectional study was conducted on 100 bedridden patients in Chandigarh. Disability was assessed using the Katz index and an interview schedule based on Craig handicap assessment and reporting technique (CHART) was used to assess the care provision to the bedridden patients. Available medical records and brief medical examination were also conducted on the spot. Quality of care was assessed based on the Donabedian model. Factors associated with the quality of care provision, based on literature, were examined for association in the study cases. Results Mean age of the bedridden patients was 69 years. Sixtyeight patients lived in joint families. All had total dependence in the domains of bathing, dressing, toileting and transfer. The commonest cause of disability was neurological diseases. Mean duration of being bedridden was 16.4 months. Though the rates of complications like urinary infections (89%), bedsores (54%) were quite high, 57% patients reported satisfaction with the quality of care they were receiving. However, only 18 males and 6 females subjects were receiving good quality care according to our evaluation. Ownership of property/money by the subject was the only factor found to be associated with good quality of care. Gender of the subject, degree of disability, type of family in which the subject was living in and whether the patient is currently married or not did not seem to significantly affect the quality of care received by the subjects. Conclusion Though more than half of the study subjects reported subjective satisfaction with the quality of care being received, objective evaluation based on the study criteria showed that only a quarter were actually receiving good quality care. Furthermore, the economic worth seemed to positively influence the quality of care being received by the subjects. How to cite this article Singh T, Minhas AS. During the Covid-19 pandemic, pencak silat athletes experienced difficulty improving physical fitness because training could not be done together with a coach, so their physical fitness decreased significantly. This study aimed to test Tabata and Circuit's effectiveness to improve female Pencak silat athletes' physical fitness. This research was quantitative with experimental methods. The subject of this research consisted of Female Pencak silat athletes with low physical fitness levels (n=20). All subjects were randomly allocated to experiment I of the Tabata weight training (TWT) (n = 10) and experiment II of the Circuit weight training (CWT) (n = 10). The results showed that the physical training such as arm muscle strength (t= 11.00; P<0.05), leg muscle strength (t= 7.900; P<0.05), muscle endurance (t= 6.014; P<0.05), flexibility (t= 10.34; P<0.05), endurance VO2max (t= 17.39; P<0.05) and power (t= 19.20; P<0.05), increased significantly due to the intervention of Tabata weight training. A similar increase occurred in Circuit weight training, physical fitness components, such as arm muscle strength (t= 4.910; P<0.05), leg muscle strength (t= 12.230; P<0.05), muscle endurance (t= 4.792; P<0.05), flexibility (t= 6.107; P<0.05), endurance VO2max (t= 5.533; P<0.05) and power (t= 5.982; P<0.05) increased significantly. Home-based weight training between Tabata and Circuit positively improved the physical fitness of female Pencak silat athletes. This research contributes knowledge in coaching so that lecturers and coaches can use it to improve aspects of athlete's physical fitness.

The concept of persistence (to hold firmly and steadfastly to some purpose or task) has been reportedly related to personality development, motivation, and locus of control. However, there is a dearth of research on persistence primarily because a widely accepted and validated measure of persistence is lacking. A 1987 measure, the Persistence Scale for Children by Lufi and Cohen, has been the subject of validation and reliability studies. The present paper is a description of its use with 50 adolescents and the correlations between persistence and the adolescents' personality characteristics, based on Cattell's High School Personality Questionnaire. Correlations between persistence and HSPQ personality characteristics were significant. Replication with a larger sample and continued use in the study of persistence is discussed as well as persistence in relation to adolescent development.

Fifty-two subjects, high or low in levels of self-disclosure and disclosure flexibility, were selected (from a larger sample of 139) to test the effects of similarity and actual levels of disclosure and disclosure flexibility on perceptions of interpersonal attraction and social adjustment. Subjects rated protocols contrived to be similar! dissimilar in disclosure and in disclosure flexibility levels to that of the subject. Results generally confirmed the hypotheses and found: 1) a similarity effect for disclosure flexibility. 2) highest adjustment ratings for medium-high disclosure and high disclosure flexibility protocols; 3) actual disclosure level as a more potent determinant of perceived adjustment and attraction than was similarity in disclosure level; and 4) no discrimination of judgments by individuals low in disclosure flexibility.

Cervical stabilization exercises are frequently used to reduce pain, maximize function, and improve physical impairments for people with nonspecific neck pain. We conducted a single arm study to evaluate the effects of a home-based cervical stabilization exercise program for university violin players with nonspecific neck pain who frequently assume an asymmetrical neck posture and activate their superficial cervical flexors to stabilize the violin. Twenty violin players with nonspecific neck pain from university symphony orchestras participated in this study. All participants received assessments twice before the intervention and once immediately after a 6-week cervical stabilization exercise program. No significant differences were found between the two pretests before the intervention. After the intervention, the Numeric Rating Scale, the Neck Disability Index, the craniocervical flexion test, muscle endurance tests, cervical range of motion (all directions except flexion) tests, and cervicocephalic relocation tests (flexion and left rotation) showed improvements. The forward head posture indicated by the craniovertebral angle also slightly improved. The results of this single arm study suggest that cervical stabilization exercise is feasible and has the potential to improve physical health for collegiate violin players with nonspecific neck pain.

Despite recent research on home-based education and teaching of children in the eighteenth and the nineteenth centuries, the subject of home and private tutors has yet not been properly addressed. Though there are more or less extensive mentions on the subject in question in articles devoted to home tutors or home tutelage, they do not, however, delve deeper into the investigation of the problem. Therefore, the present work attempts to characterize this position of appointed, or hired, teachers who were involved in the process of education of children in Polish families in time of partitions. The main problem is approached from the two following perspectives – the aim of the article is to: 1) indicate more precisely the status of private tutors, their social background, goals to be attained by them, their duties, responsibilities and conditions of work, i.e. a determination of their real participation in the education of children from Polish families during the time under scrutiny; and also 2) to show the contemporary standpoint expressed by the then educational columnists and journalists on the very idea of private tutoring and private tutors, as well as their postulates, recommendations to be followed and advice concerning hired teaching staff. The source material for the present analysis of the capacity and function of private tutors has been provided by relevant educational literature for professionals and parents written in the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century, professional educational periodicals and women’s and family magazines of the time. The source materials provide an excellent base for a determination of the extent and the scope of the interest of the contemporary columnists and journalists in this group of private tutors and private tutelage at the time, but also present the attitude towards the phenomenon manifested by the general public. The analysis is supplemented with additional material excerpted from contemporary memoirs and diaries that serve here as a useful illustration of the reality and practice in the actual teaching process of appointed tutors in the times of national freedom struggle in Poland.

This study aimed to apply low-cost interactive technology to home-based rehabilitation training for patients suffering from chronic stroke. It also focuses on discussing the results of the integration of interactive computer game training with home-based rehabilitation training in helping these patients. We conducted an experiment following the reversal design of single-subject research, in which a patient suffering with chronic stroke was given home-based rehabilitation training. In addition to interactive computer technology, the experiment also involved the adoption of a low-cost Wii Remote controller as an infrared receiver and a homemade infrared emitter supplemented by computer animation software to investigate the outcome of a home-based rehabilitation program. Data analysis is based on collection of points by the participant throughout the experiment and adopting visual analysis to discuss the outcome of interactive technology integrated with home-based rehabilitation. The results of this research show that the subject was able to stand on one leg for a few seconds longer than prior to the adoption of interactive technology integrated with home-based rehabilitation. Furthermore, parents of this patient and the therapists involved believe that the research and this innovative approach improved the patients performance in rehabilitation. The subject not only showed better motivation with regard to rehabilitation but also greater independence and enhanced capability of integrating into society.
