Determining the water quality of agricultural irrigation ponds has great importance both for agricultural production and for aquatic organisms. In this study, seasonal changes of the physico-chemical parameters and metal concentrations of water in Terzialan Pond were investigated. In 2019, physico-chemical analysis of the water samples taken from four sampling points are made according to APHA (2012) standard method, determining metal concentrations with ICP-OES. The water quality of the pond is evaluated according to YSKYY, ITASHY and TS266 classes. Terzialan Pond, according to Surface Water Quality Management Regulations is found to be second quality in terms of phosphate concentration and first quality in other parameters. The pond can be used as agricultural irrigation water being in C2-S1 class according to US Salinity Laboratory diagram and very good- good class according to Wilcox diagram. Changes in water quality are observed due to anthropogenic effects depending on seasonal agricultural and recreational activities, besides natural effects. Periodic monitoring of the pond will be beneficial for environmental management.

Çınarlı Stream within the borders of Hafik district of Sivas city is famous for its natural beauties and rich water resource. By passing through a steep valley, Çınarlı stream reaches at forages exhibiting gypsum characteristic of Çınarlı Village. It supplies the irrigation water needs of Koşutdere and near villages where it merges with Koç Stream, and then mixes into Kızılırmak within the borders of Hafik district. Çınarlı Stream satisfies table and usage water requirements of Çınarlı, Bahçecik and Koşutdere villages, besides supplying the irrigation water for fertile agricultural lands near them. In this study, by observing the water quality of Çınarlı Stream via physico-chemical methods by taking samples from 6 stations on stream and analyzing these samples between October 2011 and September 2013, it has been aimed to determine and record the monthly and seasonal changes in water quality, to determine the quality criteria in accordance with Water Pollution and Control Regulation (WPCR), and to create a data base for further studies in Çınarlı Stream, where no other study has been carried out.

Composition of plankton communities in two ponds at African Regional Agriculture Centre (ARAC) Aluu, Port Harcourt was undertaken between May and June 2004, to assess the composition, relative abundance and distribution of plankton. The diversity of plankton was poor. Twenty-eight taxa representing four (4) families were recorded for phytoplankton while seventeen taxa representing four families were identified for zooplankton. Chlorophyta and Cladocera were the most dominant classes in phytoplankton and zooplankton in terms of abundance, constitute 13.0% and 17.1% respectively. The water quality of the ponds is evident by high temperature (28.80C), depth (57.5cm), transparency (42), dissolved oxygen (4.9mg/l) and low BOD of (1.4mg/l). The lower density of organisms could be partly attributed due to heavy rainfall which destabilize the surface water and substrate. Hence, extensive studies of the ponds where aquatic organisms are kept should be carried out to maintain proper utilization of ponds.KEYWORDS: Plankton, composition, communities richness, abundance.

This work aims at assessing the pollution degree of the Olt River (Romania), based on the Canadian Water Quality (CWQI) index, by monitoring twenty twos locations along the middle and south part of the river basin for a period of four months, from March to October, during 2018. A comprehensive physico-chemical analysis involving major cations (Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+), anions (Cl-, SO42-, N-NO3--) and general parameters (pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolve solids) was performed for this purpose. Results demonstrated that CWQI values classified the water in the investigated sectors of the river as fair (values between 66.08 to 79.05), marginal (56.22 to 64.63) and good (value of 85.60). This method appears to be more systematic and provide comparative evaluation of the water quality in different seasons of the year. The results showed that there is a large variations in the parameters in different sections of the river due to different anthropogenic factors. Therefore, this index may be helpful as marker for the public to better understand the quality of water, but also as tool for water quality management.

Recent past has witnessed ever increasing importance of water in agricultural development that necessitates precise assessment of spatial variability in irrigation water quality of ground water resources and its optimal utilization. Present study was aimed to characterize the variability in quality of irrigation water across the Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh using geo-statistical techniques. The results are compared with univariate interpolation algorithms such as ordinary kriging and inverse distance weighing. The comparisons were performed with cross validation at sampling locations and assessed based on mean and root means squared errors. The results revealed that all the physico-chemical parameters exist within the permissible limits as per the standards hence quality of water is safe for irrigation purposes.

One of the challenging problems of Punjab, the most populous province of Pakistan, is the surface water-quality problem of the Ravi River, which flows through the main cities of the province. At present, the overall status of water quality is very polluted, primarily due to residential and industrial wastewater directly discharged into the Ravi River through a network of drains. Due to the poor quality of the water, the river ecosystem is not favorable for the aquatic and surrounding environment. Hence, management options are proposed to reduce pollution. Therefore, the study was formulated to identify the main sources of pollution along the Ravi River and their potential impact on the course of the river channel. In addition, the study applied a numerical model WASP 8.1 (Water Quality Simulation Program) to discover the best strategy for the improvement of water quality. Through the model simulation it was found that, if the flow at headwater and link canals is increased up to 50%, along with 75% improvement in the pollution concentration of drains through wastewater-treatment facilities, the water quality of the Ravi River can be improved up to an acceptable limit of water-quality standards.

The present paper highlights the preliminary investigation of physico-chemical characteristics of tropical pilgrimage wetland viz. Dakor Sacred Wetland (DSW), Anand District, Central Gujarat, India. As the existing water body is contaminated with domestic sewage influenced by anthropogenic interventions, an urgent need was felt to evaluate physico-chemical parameters such as Temperature, pH, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Total Solids (TS), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Free CO2, Phenolphthalein Alkalinity (PA), Total Alkalinity (TA), Carbonates, Bicarbonates, Total Hardness, Calcium Hardness, Magnesium Hardness, Chloride, Salinity, Sulphate, Phosphate, Nitrate, Sodium, and Potassium. The obtained data were correlated statistically to draw a conclusion about the surface water quality of tropical pilgrimage wetland. Moreover, the results manifested the need and prime necessity to restore the physical, chemical and biological integrity with viable and rigorous restoration and management strategies in order to maintain, preserve, conserve and to avert the ecological imbalance and disturbance in hydro-geo-chemical and hydro-biological cycles, which adversely affect the food chain and food web of the significant pond ecosystem. This paper aims to assess the surface water quality of the Seybouse River using a model of the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment Water Quality Index (CCME WQI). The study area is located in the basin of the lower Seybouse River, north-east Algeria. The method involved the calculation of the WQI, based on the measurement of bacteriological and physico-chemical parameters. Water samples were collected from 13 sampling stations; observing the river and its most important tributary. The analysis of these samples showed that the water index of the river ranked as poor. The degradation of water quality of the river is mainly due to the lack of control over discharged materials and lack of water treatment.
