a slum will cause many problems for many cities. The urbanization factor is one of the causes of slums due to the limited urban housing area. In general, there are seven slum indicators that can determine the quality of residential areas, one of which is physical infrastructure. Infrastructure conditions are interrelated with residential development. This study analyzes seven indicators of slums in Jawa Lama Village, Lhokseumawe, Aceh-Indonesia. In this study, the research team used data surveys with field tracking and field documentation from city roads. Documented data includes field photos and regional mapping that shows the location of the study. Data that has been collected can be used to determine urban facilities and infrastructure that are very influential for slums in the study area.

Referring to the Malaysian National Security Council, disaster is defined as a catastrophic situation that claimed many lives and caused extensive damage to property and potentially endangers the public peace and security. In Malaysia, there were few natural disaster events that can be said to be among the worst ever in terms of the number of deaths and damages. However, these occurrences were not as severe as overseas. At the end of December 2014, there was a catastrophic flood called as the 'Bah Kuning' was hitting the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It resulted in almost 85% of the total Kuala Krai area inundated by flood water. One of the elements in post-disaster recovery is rebuilding shelter for victims. Regardless, it is important to research on residents’ satisfaction as it will affect the well-being directly or indirectly. Thus, a study was carried out to evaluate the satisfaction of residents (victims) on the “New Permanent Houses” (Rumah Kekal Baharu, RKB) that they received from the redevelopment project. A questionnaire survey was carried out to collect and understand respondents’ satisfaction on the redevelopment of their housing area, in specific, the quality of their newly reconstructed houses and the supporting facilities or infrastructure in their area. From the analysis, it was found that majority of the respondents were satisfied with their newly redeveloped houses and the infrastructure. The satisfaction level was associated with the locational and land ownership factors.

Pekanbaru is a city in Indonesia with high population growth. The increasing amount of the population has a parallel relationship with the increasing quantity of waste disposal. This study has been conducted on an open dumping landfill at Pekanbaru that surrounded by residential areas. Waste disposal produces leachate as a threat to surface water and groundwater resources. This study aims to investigate the contamination spread formed by leachate using the geophysical method. Direct Current Resistivity (DCR) has been used to produce 2 D Resistivity subsurface Models. Data acquisition has been done using multi-electrodes (32 electrodes) with spacing 2 m between electrodes. 2D Resistivity model produced, a contaminant from leachate represented by low resistivity value 26.1 - 870 Ωm. The deepest penetration of leachate that detected is around 3 m from the surface. It has been understood that leachate from the landfill of the study area is not contaminated groundwater yet. It confirmed by groundwater analysis at residential around the landfill area. By knowing the spreading of leachate, preventive action can be made to maintain the quality of groundwater resources.

<p>This research aims to describe (1) teachers’ perceptions toward authentic assessment; (2) the implementation of authentic assessment; and (3) the effects of authentic assessment to the quality of English Language Teaching (ELT). The research method used in this study is qualitative research method, case study. The data were collected through in-depth interview with the teachers and the students, passive classroom observation, and document analysis toward syllabus, lesson plan, scoring rubric. The data were analyzed by using case study data analysis proposed by Yin (2002) consisting of examining, categorizing, tabulating, testing. The next step used in analysing the data was pattern matching. The findings of the research are: (1)teachers’ perception toward authentic assessment is assessment which can assess the students’ knowledge, skill, and attitude during the teaching and learning process; (2) the implementation of authentic assessment in English language teaching conducted in one of state senior high school in Surakarta includes types of authentic assessment, the steps of developing authentic assessment, documents used in implementing authentic assessment, teachers and students’ roles, teachers obstacles in implementing authentic assessment; (3) the implementation of authentic assessment affects to the quality of English language teaching. It can improve students’ motivation, interest, self-confidence, activeness, enthusiasm in learning English. The implementation of authentic assessment can also improve the students’ English ability and learning result.</p>

Men’s tendency and requirement have been increased for being represented in natural areas in the city through industrialization and cities development. On the one hand, the necessity of surviving of urban damaged and dense areas and protecting and improvement of natural resources in cities and on the other hand, the townscape has been considered because of increasing the quality of urban spaces of environment in nature. Based on these views, surviving sea coasts, wharfs, green spaces, making connection among them and urban residential areas require coordination between environmental approaches and urban issues and solutions should be chosen to provide a balance among urban, aesthetic and ecology approaches. The present essay attempts to study the concept of townscape quality through descriptive-analysis method by considering Joffre coastal neighborhood center in western south of Boushehr as a part of coastal townscape and effective indicators on its quality and present solutions for promoting and improving the quality of coastal townscape in the studied part.

This paper aims to establish a methodology for urban land use planning and management that provides an insight into the hierarchy of priorities between a large number of activities for planning actions, thus contributing to the concept of energy-efficient housing. This methodology includes three aspects of sustainable development: Economic, ecologic, and social, which serve as an overall criterion within which urban planners could make assessments of planned activities. The assessments are the core of the methodology—every aspect is assessed by concerning its costs, consequences on the urban environment, and the effects on the citizens’ quality of life. Ten experts were involved to prove the methodology’s effectiveness. As a result, a hierarchy between the activities is created, which would help an urban planner prioritize and order further activities. The applicability of the hierarchy was tested through a simulation of a reconstruction process of a collective housing area in New Belgrade, Serbia, from the view-point of land use and accessibility. This methodology contributes to the creation of the prioritized groups of activities, and a finalized hierarchy of the activities, while its application is seen in the process of making urban plans, and defining recommendations for its implementation.

The existence of the Museum in general has not been able to optimally meet the needs of the community as a means of education and quality recreation. Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemdikbud) since 2011 has rolled out the Revitalization program of the Museum as an effort to improve the quality of the museum in serving the community and make the museum as a “need” to visit.Revitalization at the Museum of National Awakening encompasses the physical appearance of the museum made interesting, by arranging the interior, exterior, and rehabilitation of other supporting facilities. The method applied in this research is qualitative method, perform analysis based on case study data with the theory used.The result of this museum revitalization as a means of public learning, but also must be able to support the development of science. As an educational and academic function: the museum serves as a vehicle for education, a means of sharing knowledge and should be a center of study or a center of educational studies.

Neighbourhood liveability is a concept reflecting the perceived living conditions in a housing area. Liveability depends on one hand on the relationship between demand and supply on the local services market, and on the other hand on the spatial structure of the neighbourhood. In this paper we combine those two aspects by asking a question: what physical forms are the most effective in providing quality of life and satisfying the everyday needs of citizens? We present the results of social survey and mapping analysis conducted in 5 neighbourhoods in Poland representing big cities, medium towns and suburbs. Each case study included opinions of both the customers and services providers. The results show that there are particular spatial structures (streets, squares, passages) positively evaluated by each of the two groups, determining the neighbourhood liveability.

Using data from a 50-state survey of policies, state case study analyses, the 1993-94 Schools and Staffing Surveys (SASS), and the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), this study examines the ways in which teacher qualifications and other school inputs are related to student achievement across states. The findings of both the qualitative and quantitative analyses suggest that policy investments in the quality of teachers may be related to improvements in student performance. Quantitative analyses indicate that measures of teacher preparation and certification are by far the strongest correlates of student achievement in reading and mathematics, both before and after controlling for student poverty and language status. State policy surveys and case study data are used to evaluate policies that influence the overall level of teacher qualifications within and across states. This analysis suggests that policies adopted by states regarding teacher education, licensing, hiring, and professional development may make an important difference in the qualifications and capacities that teachers bring to their work. The implications for state efforts to enhance quality and equity in public education are discussed.

This article aims to discuss the dimension of transparency in the process of organizing public services at the Office of Investment and Integrated Services One Door Kolaka Regency. The lack of access from citizens, limited public service information, and various maladministrations that occurred showed not an optimal improvement in the quality of public services in Indonesia. The idea of transparency in public services is that the government should be open with the availability of clear information and provide convenience to citizens in accessing services. this research uses a qualitative approach with a case study. Data is collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of this study show that the process of organizing public services at the Office of Investment and Integrated Services One Door Kolaka Regency has been carried out transparently. Service executors have been open and provide all public service information needed by the community. Access to services can be reached easily by residents. Although some people have difficulty in accessing services online, the implementing officers always help and provide convenience as a form of responsiveness in public services.

Abstract: The perspective of teaching in rural area led this study to investigate non-indigenous teacher's teachings in an indigenous classroom of one of rural elementary schools in Hualien, Taiwan. The teacher's views on indigenous students' grade and how it related to the teacher’s teaching were explored also. This study was a case study. Data was collected and analyzed by applying qualitative method. It implemented classroom ethnography approach. It revealed that although the teacher had demonstrated a great deal of passion in teaching indigenous students, involvement the students in some indoor and outdoor activities, and using various media to get students’ attention, but he was concerned about his students’ low academic achievement. In Hualien, there are annual provincial examinations on the subjects of Chinese, Mathematics and English in May, which all the elementary students are required to take. To improve the student academic performance he used some classroom time to practice drills rather than spending time on exploratory activities. When indigenous students' underperformance in standardized tests are considered as reflecting poor quality of teaching, preparing students for the sit-in tests will continue to be a part of classroom teaching. This study suggests that teachers have to understand the educational context in which teaching and learning take place. Knowing this would provide teachers a more meaningful teaching and learning.
