Palabras clave: INTERACCIÓN MULTIUSUARIO; ARTICULACIÓN; PROTESTA SOCIOPOLÍTICA; MEDIOS DE COMUNICACIÓN; CONECTIVIDAD Simulating socio-political protestAbstractThis paper presents an analysis of Protest-$1: an artistic-technological, multi-user, interactive, relational project that provides the user with a cognitive approach to the socio-political protest by being part of a simulated demonstration against the Israeli bombing of Palestine. The installation comprises a front projection screen, two loudspeakers and three devices each consisting of a megaphone and a smartphone. The person who is interacting selects the actions that he/she wants to make happen during the protest event by pressing the buttons on the touch screen of a mobile phone and then shaking a megaphone so that, through this effort, the chosen action can be implemented in the demonstration. Likewise, by creating a framework in which the wishes of the majority always prevail over those of the minority, Protest-$1 allows the users to fight and thus prevent another user from managing to implement their own chosen protest action. The loudspeakers broadcast the voice of the mass media reporting on the protest in the form of a news bulletin and in real time, thus allowing those interacting to articulate the protest while remaining aware of the global image that is being broadcast. Keywords: INTERACTION; MULTI-USER; ARTICULATION; SOCIO-POLITICAL PROTEST; MASS MEDIA; CONNECTIVITY

This paper presents a study about the young, the use they do of mass media and the relationship they keep with health. Among other contributions, it is to be highlighted that the voice of young people can be heard in this article which, with the use of methodological triangulation, offers a rich information about how adolescents contact the media and interpret its messages.

In a tweet posted on 29 March 2018, a bidūn activist—who was later jailed from July 2019 to January 2020 for peacefully protesting against the inhumane conditions under which the bidūn are living—shared a video. The brief video zooms in closely on an ID card, recognizable as one of those issued to the bidūn, or long-term residents of Kuwait who are in contention with the state regarding their legal status. More precisely, the mobile phone camera focuses on the back of the ID card, on one line with a special mention added by the Central System (al-jihāz al-markazī), the administration in charge of bidūn affairs. Other magnetic strip cards hide the personal data written above and below it. A male voice can be heard saying that he will read this additional remark, but before even doing so he bursts into laughter. The faceless voice goes on to read out the label in an unrestrained laugh: “ladayh qarīb … ladayh qarīna … dālla ʿalā al-jinsiyya al-ʿIrāqiyya” (he has a relative … who has presumptive evidence … suggesting an Iraqi nationality). The video shakes as the result of a contagious laugh that grows in intensity. In the Kuwaiti dialect, the voice continues commenting: “Uqsim bil-Allāh, gaʿadt sāʿa ufakkir shinū maʿanāt hal-ḥatchī” (I swear by God, it took me an hour to figure out the meaning of this nonsense), before reading the sentence again, stopping and guffawing, and asking if he should “repeat it a third time,” expressing amazement at its absurdity. The tweet, addressed to the head of the Central System (mentioned in the hashtag #faḍīḥat Sāliḥ al-Faḍāla, or #scandal Salih al-Fadala), reads: In lam tastaḥī fa-'ktub mā shaʾt (Don't bother, write what you want).

A cross-sectional study was conducted in March 2016 to assess the need of mobile phone technologies for health surveillance and interventions in Benin. Questionnaires were administered to 130 individuals comprising 25 medical professionals, 33 veterinarians, and 72 respondents from the public. All respondents possess cell phones and 75%, 84%, and 100% of the public, medical professionals, and veterinarians, respectively, generally use them for medical purposes. 75% of respondents including 68% of medics, 84.8% of veterinarians, and 72.2% of the public acknowledged that the current surveillance systems are ineffective and do not capture and share real-time information. More than 92% of the all respondents confirmed that mobile phones have the potential to improve health surveillance in the country. All respondents reported adhering to a nascent project of mobile phone-based health surveillance and confirmed that there is no existing similar approach in the country. The most preferred methods by all respondents for effective implementation of such platform are phone calls (96.92%) followed by SMS (49.23%) and smart phone digital forms (41.53%). This study revealed urgent needs of mobile phone technologies for health surveillance and interventions in Benin for real-time surveillance and efficient disease prevention.

No professional of the mass media would dare to say without much ado that ‘anything goes’ to obtain publicity, to gain hearing or to compete with the adversary. That's why we appeal to the ethics. To ask for an ethical look or, better, an ethical commitment on the part of the mass media.

In this work, we will focus on some of the ethical problems that the Holocaust has posed to the representation of historical limit-events. We will then link the different narratives emerging from these representations to the possibilities of mourning and elaboration. First, we will examine the German philosopher Theodor Adorno’s propositions concerning the possibilities of art in the face of suffering. Then, we will present some aspects of the debate that arose in the late 70s regarding the representation of the Holocaust in mass media and in ‘high’ culture. It will be shown how in this debate there persists a dichotomist perspective of trauma, which creates two supposedly irreconcilable types of post-traumatic narratives that do not permit an appropriate elaboration and mourning of losses caused by the traumatic event. Finally, we will analyze the graphic novel Maus. A Survivor’s Tale, whose experimental and open narrative allows an original questioning and deconstruction of the redemption/aporia dichotomy, putting forward new problems related to the memory of the Holocaust and the possibilities of mourning.
