Shading Screens and mulching may provide a favorable environment for radish growing in regions of adverse climates. This work aimed to evaluate the radish productivity under the influence of different shading screens associated with the presence and absence of mulch in two different years. The experiment was carried out in two different seasons (2017 dry season and 2018 rainy season), in the vegetable garden of Liberdade campus, at the University of International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusophony (Unilab), municipality of Redenção-CE. The experimental design was in randomized blocks in a split-plot arrangement, with four repetitions, in which the plots consisted of growing with and without mulching and in the subplots, five shading screens: 50% Black Shading Screen (50% BSS), 50% Red Shading Screen (50% RSS), 30% White Shading Screen (30% WSS), 70% Black Shading Screen (70% BSS) ), and full sunlight (FS). The red shading screens 50% and white 30%, in addition to cultivation under full sunlight, provide higher performance in terms of the number of leaves, tuberous root diameter, tuberous root matter, and the radish crop productivity, regardless of the evaluated period. The applied mulch does not influence the productivity of the rabante, influencing only the gain of dry mass of the aerial part, soluble solids and length of the tuberous root.

The radish is a Brassicaceae with small size, adapted to regions with mild temperatures between 13 and 20 °C and short days. However, there are cultivars adapted to high-temperature conditions, which has allowed the cultivation of this tuberous vegetable throughout the year, even in tropical regions. The present work had as objective evaluate the agronomic performance and yield of six cultivars of radish, in Uruçuí - PI. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, with four replicates and six cultivars. Harvest was performed according to the cycle of each cultivar. Number of leaves per plant, fresh and dry mass of shoot and root, diameter, and root length and yield were evaluated. The cultivars Margaret Queen and Crimson Gigante presented better root development, both in diameter and length, and obtained higher productivity per ha, being these two the most indicated for the region. The Sparkler cultivar was one of the ones that produced the highest fresh mass of the aerial part, but it obtained lower commercial roots yield, being the least indicated for the municipality of Uruçuí-PI.

The lack of research about escarole cultivars adapted to each region, as well as technical information on plant growth have been some of the factors related to low yields. Therefore, the aim of this work was to evaluate the growth of escarole crop in four seasons of year in Santa Maria, RS. The experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design, 1 x 4, being a escarole (cultivar Escorola Lisa®) evaluated in four seasons of year (summer, autumn, winter and spring), in six replications. The evaluations were performed in a destructive manner every seven days, from date of transplant to harvest point. The following components were analyzed: number of leaves, number of residues, dry mass of leaves, dry mass of leaves, stem and residue. Thus, it was determined the parameters for growth analysis. With the data obtained, we performed a variance analysis, and presented significant results, and the means of each season of the year submitted to the Tukey test at 5% of error probability. The air temperature and global radiation influence crop cycle. Lower temperatures and lower incidence of radiation result in cycle extended, as observed in autumn. The escarole growth is influenced by seasons of year in Rio Grande do Sul (RS), and summer and spring finish the cycle in advance to others, presenting a larger leaf area. Summer and spring are most indicated season to escarole crop in RS, Brazil.

SANTOS, F. PRODUCTIVITY OF MUSKMELON FERTIRRIGATED WITH SILICON     2 ABSTRACT   This work aimed to evaluate the productivity and accumulation of biomass in the culture of muskmelon grown in a greenhouse under different water conditions and doses of silicon (Si). The experiment was conducted in a randomized block, a 5x2 factorial scheme, with five doses of Si (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg ha-1) and two water replacement conditions (40 and 100% of the crop evapotranspiration (ETc)), with four replications. Fertilization with Si was performed after the begriming of fruit formation. The production per plant, total soluble solids content of the fruits, dry leaf, stem and root mass was evaluated, and the production ratio as a function of the dry mass of the aerial part was determined. Path analysis statistics were adopted to indicate the effect of each variable regarding growth on production. The application of Si linearly reduced production per plant in the condition of 100% of ETc, while in deficient irrigation the production described in a quadratic model. The doses of Si significantly affected the partition of assimilates between fruits. Regarding the aerial part, there was an influence of the doses of the element under deficient irrigation. Based on the path analysis, the dry leaf and stem mass are directly related to production, regardless of water availability.   Keywords: greenhouse, Cucumis melo, benefic element, micro-irrigation.

Beet needs a high demand of nutrients to improve its development and productivity. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of fertilizer forms in the development and productivity of the beet crop. The experiment was carried out in the experimental area of the Fazenda Escola of the Higher Education Center of Campos Gerais, located in the city of Ponta Grossa-PR, between September and November 2018. The experimental design was randomized blocks in a 2x4 factorial scheme [2 genotypes of beet (Boron hybrid and Tall Top Early Wonder cultivar) x 4 forms of fertilization, T1 - control (without fertilization), T2 - poultry litter, T3 - bovine manure and T4 - NPK], containing four repetitions. The harvest was carried out at 75 days after transplanting the seedlings, harvesting five plants from each plot to carry out the analyzes, thus evaluating the number of leaves per plant, height of the aerial part, fresh mass of the aerial part and the root, productivity, horizontal diameter and commercial classification of root, presence of white rings through notes and soluble solids content (ºBrix). Among the different genotypes studied, the cultivar Tall Top Early Wonder was superior in the variables of plant height, fresh mass of roots and leaves and soluble solids, 75 days after transplantation. The cultivar Tall Top Early Wonder responded better, implying the idea that organic fertilization would be an alternative as a source of nutrients in beet production.

Zucchini culture is slightly sensitive to salinity and is among the ten vegetables of highest economic value, with characteristics of precocity and easy cultivation. These characteristics are some of the reasons for the expansion of its cultivation among small producers. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the effect of different levels of salinity in the irrigation water and biofertilizer types on the initial growth of the zucchini (Cucurbita pepo L.) culture. The experiment was carried out in the full sunlight in a randomized block design, in a 5x2 factorial arrangement. The treatments consisted of a combination of five types of biofertilizers (quail, sheep, mixed, bovine, and crab) and two salinity levels of the irrigation water (0.8 and 2.5 dS m-1), with five replicates. At 30 days after transplanting, the following variables were evaluated: electrical conductivity of the substrate, plant height, number of leaves, roots length, stem diameter, leaf area, chlorophyll content, dry mass of the aerial part, root dry mass, and total dry mass. Salt stress negatively interferes with the accumulation of zucchini plant biomass. Quail, bovine, and sheep biofertilizers are more efficient about plant height, number of leaves, and stem diameter. The sheep biofertilizer attenuates the salt stress for the dry mass of the aerial part, the root, and the total dry mass.

Arugula is a crop of fast vegetative growth and short cycle, widely accepted worldwide. In Brazil, its production generates jobs and income for family farming. However, the use of saline water in the cultivation of this plant is one of the main factors that limit production. Given this situation, the objective of this study was to evaluate the growth of Apreciatta arugula cultivated under conditions of shading and salinity levels of irrigation water. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse in the experimental area of the Agricultural Sciences Center of the Federal University of Alagoas, in the city of Rio Largo, AL. The treatments were obtained from the combination of two shading conditions (with shading and without shading) and five levels of electrical conductivity of the irrigation water (0.5; 2.0; 3.5; 5.0 and 6.5 dS m-1). The experimental design used was completely randomized in a 2 x 5 factorial scheme. Combined, the factors resulted in 10 treatments with four replications and one plant per plot, totaling 40 experimental units. Arugula plants were evaluated for leaf number, plant height, leaf area and dry matter of the aerial part. Increasing levels of salinity in the irrigation water, lead to a reduction in the number of leaves, plant height and dry mass of the aerial part of arugula plants cultivar Apreciatta. However, the use of shading together with the salinity of irrigation water up to 1.4 dS m-1does not affect the leaf area of arugula plants, being possible to cultivate without considerable losses.

Fertilizer management has a direct influence on crop productivity, especially phosphorus, which is most limiting to the development of crops in tropical soils due to the genesis of these soils. In this sense, it is necessary to use nutrient sources that are agronomically efficient at reduced costs compared to conventional sources. Thus, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of reactive natural phosphate as a source of phosphorus on the development, growth, and yield of safflower in Cerrado Oxisol. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse at the Federal University of Mato Grosso, Campus of Rondonópolis. The completely randomized design consisted of the following treatments: 0, 100, 200, 400 and 600 mg dm-3 of reactive natural phosphate (Bayóvar reactive phosphate), with 6 replicates, consisting by pots with 2 dm3 of capacity. To the Oxisol used to fill the plots was incorporated dolomitic limestone to increase base saturation to60%. Safflower cultivar used was IMA 0213 with a final population of three plants per plot. Plant height, number of leaves and chlorophyll index were evaluated at 15, 30, 45 and 55 days after emergence. In the last evaluation plants were cut and the number and diameter of the chapters, shoot and chapters dry mass, volume and root dry mass were also evaluated. The results were submitted to analysis of variance and regression up to 10% probability. In general, safflower crop shows a positive response to application of reactive natural phosphate. Doses between 389 and 600 mg dm-3 promoted best results for development and safflower production in an Oxisol.

There is evidence that the purple nutsedge (Cyperus rotundus L.) aqueous extract can induce the plants rooting due to the high auxin concentrations. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of application seasons and concentrations of purple nutsedge aqueous extract application on the growth and production of carrot, cultivar Brasília. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, in a 2 x 5 factorial scheme in two seasons of the extract application (25 and 50 days after sowing) and five concentrations of (0%, 10%, 20%, 30% and 40%) with four replicates. Harvesting was carried out at 90 days after sowing, being evaluated the following morphological parameters: root diameter (cm); root fresh mass (g plant-1); plant height (cm); aerial part fresh mass (g plant-1); root dry mass (g plant-1); aerial part dry mass (g plant-1); plant dry mass (g plant-1); ratio between root dry mass and aerial part dry mass; root length (cm); commercial productivity (t ha-1); defective root mass (t ha-1); total productivity (t ha-1); commercial yield (roots kg-1); and root classification by length. The extract application at 50th day was more efficient for the root diameter (3.37 cm); fresh root mass (120.7 g plant-1); root length (15.4 cm); commercial productivity (68.2 t ha-1); total productivity (73.6 t ha-1); and commercial roots (8.8 roots kg-1). Root classification by length showed a higher percentage in the 14 cm classification range. The parameters did not present significant differences in both seasons, at 25th and 50th days, respectively, for root dry mass (12.0 and 12.8 g plant-1), ratio between dry mass of roots and aerial part (1.66 and 1.57), and defective root mass (1.3 and 1.5 t ha-1).

The management of swine wastewater is of great importance where swine breeding is considerable and can represent an important fertilizer at maintenance of forages. The objective was to identify the Urochloa brizantha cultivar more responsive to fertilization with swine wastewater. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, with a 3 × 5 factorial scheme and four replications. The treatments consisted of three Urochloa brizantha cultivars (Marandu, Xaraés and Piatã) and five swine wastewater doses (0.0; 3.5; 7.0; 10.5 and 14.0 g dm3 pot-1). The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse in the city of Cuiabá-MT. Three cuts were performed in the aerial part of the plants with intervals of 30 days between them. The application of the swine wastewater, regardless of the cultivar provided an increment in the production of dry mass, plant height, number of tillers, number of leaves and crude protein content, besides reducing the neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber contents. The swine wastewater can be used as an alternative in the fertilization of Urochloa brizantha, because the cultivars were responsive to fertilization.
