In the present scenario composite materials has got a good value in making a high strength component. Kevlar fibre reinforced composite have a good property of making materials with high strength and low weight. With proper fabrication these Kevlar fibres will produce good property in making components that will be used for specific applications. Our project is dealt with the preparation of a laminate using Kevlar fibre reinforced composite in 0o-90o orientation by using epoxy resin as adhesive and to analyze the mechanical properties of that particular laminate and study that it has high mechanical properties or not. Main objective of this project is to make a composite laminate with high strength, high stiffness, and low weight for various applications.

Industries like aerospace, civil construction and automation uses the sandwich composites widely due to their high strength at low weight. The face sheets and core of the composites play a vital role in the properties of composites. The mechanical properties of these types of structures depend on the application and under various environmental conditions. Most of the sandwich composites will fail due to debonding and core crushing. In this research, three types of sandwich structures like bamboo, V-Board and metal type are tested and characterized for mechanical properties. The sandwich composites are tested by 3-point bending and UTM test to identify several mechanical properties like tensile strength, Young’s modulus, fracture, etc. The results show that the bamboo type sandwich composites have high strength and low weight as compared to other composites.

Over the past two decades it has been established that composite materials are the leading emerging materials. The natural fibres present a number of advantages over traditional synthetic fibres because of their better corrosion resistance, excellent thermo-mechanical properties and high strength to weight ratio. Also the composite materials play an important role in maintaining the eco-friendly design requirements. Among this, polymer matrix composite is one of the recent developing sectors on the composite field, because it has high strength with less density as compared to the metal matrix composite. Depending on the applications, the properties of the polymer reinforced composite are improved by modifying compositions, process of fabrication and direction of fibre etc. In this analysis the Roselle Fibre (Hibiscus Sabdariffa) is reinforced with polymer composite by wt % in the mode of compression molding. The mechanical properties of the above fabricated material were analyzed by ASTM Standards and also the characterization of polymer composites were analysed using SEM. The compressive strength and the hardness value were high as compared to other strength properties; hence it is more suitable for compressive and structural applications. The results concluded that the treated fibre with chemical reveals better compatibility with polymer matrix than that of untreated fibre.

This work focuses the running inconvenient weight and the weight to strength ratio of the components of the vehicle as the weight directly affects on the mileage and running cost so this is the to replace the current material by low weight material without harming the safety. In this work the axle shaft is designed and manufactured by alternate material i.e. glass fiber and epoxy resin, the objective is to replace the all components of vehicle but the representative basis is the axle of the two wheeler. The glass fiber and epoxy resin having additional properties as they are composite materials. The composite materials i.e. composition of the more materials having properties of the all materials. The composite axle of is compared with conventional steel axle under different mechanical testing destructive and non-destructive tests with evaluating of different mechanical properties such as tensile strength, crack free structure by using appropriate experimental techniques.

High strength, high toughness, and low weight make fiber-reinforced composite materials important as an alternative to traditional materials. Due to their application in different fields, such as construction, aviation, marine, automotive technologies and biomedicine, their production has increased leading to the increasement of composite wastes. New technologies for managing fiber-reinforced composite wastes have been developed to solve the issue of end-of-life of these materials. The aim of this paper is to emphasize recycling technologies used for fiber reinforced composites, and their potential reusage.

Epoxy resins have been presenting a lot of scientific and technical interests and organic modified epoxy resins have recently receiving a great deal of attention. For obtaining the composite materials with good mechanical proprieties, a large variety of organic modification agents were used. For this study gluten and gelatin had been used as modifying agents thinking that their dispersion inside the polymer could increase the polymer biocompatibility. Equal amounts of the proteins were milled together and the obtained compound was used to form 1 to 5% weight ratios organic agents modified epoxy materials. To highlight the effect of these proteins in epoxy matrix mechanical tests as three-point bending and compression were performed.

Three-dimensional integrated woven spacer sandwich composites have been widely used as industrial textiles for many applications due to their superior physical and mechanical properties. In this research, 3D integrated woven spacer sandwich composites of five different specifications were produced, and the mechanical properties and performance were investigated under different load conditions. XR-CT (X-ray computed tomography) images were employed to visualize the microstructural details and analyze the fracture morphologies of fractured specimens under different load conditions. In addition, the effects of warp and weft direction, face sheet thickness, and core pile height on the mechanical properties and performance of the composite materials were analyzed. This investigation can provide significant guidance to help determine the structure of composite materials and design new products according to the required mechanical properties.

Abstract This paper will demonstrate on two advanced materials — a fibre-reinforced composite laminate (FRC) and a transformation toughened ceramic (TTC) — the importance of multicriterion optimization in the production of useful advanced materials with enhanced mechanical properties. In a previous paper (Thomsen et al., 1994a), the authors have demonstrated the application of single-criterion optimization to these materials which are based on a brittle matrix and thus prone to cracking at very low applied stresses. The optimization process aims at altering their microstructure so that all their desirable mechanical properties are enhanced. Currently, the advanced materials technologists must take a heuristic approach to meeting the often competing requirements. The present paper will show how multicriterion optimization can come to the aid of the technologists and reduce their reliance on empirical approaches.

Rapid expansion of technologies poses higher requirements to structural materials and items made of them. Conventional materials are being replaced by composite materials (composites). Different additives enhancing the properties of initial materials are used as reinforcement fibers of composites. Utilization of micro-and nanosize particles for production of present-day materials is paid much attention to. Whiskers are among such materials. These crystals have high strength, high chemical and temperature resistance. But for rational utilization of whickers of different chemical composition in composite materials one should know their physical and chemical properties. Objectives of the paper: to study physical and chemical properties of whiskers in different compounds, their composition and structure; to prove experimentally the feasibility of utilizing whiskers as a reinforcement fiber of composite materials. Object of study: specimens of whiskers of silicon nitride (Si3N4), aluminum oxide (Al2O3), aluminum nitride (AlN), and mullite (Al6Si2O13). Methods of investigation: thermal study of specimens, study of mechanical properties and chemical strength, and IR-spectroscopy. Results of study: specimens of whiskers have been studied and their mechanical properties have been tabulated for comparison. Extensive thermal investigation was followed by deduction of regularities and identification of chemical properties of whiskers. IR-spectra of whiskers have been studied and conclusions on molecular composition and on presence of impurities in some whiskers have been made.

Due to the wide range of application for belt conveyors, engineers look for many different combinations of mechanical properties of conveyor and transmission belts. It can be made by creating multilayer or fibre reinforced composite materials from base thermoplastic or thermosetting polymers. In order to gain high strength with proper elasticity and friction coefficient, the core of the composite conveyor belt is made of polyamide film core, which can be combined with various types of polymer fabrics, films or even rubbers. In this paper authors show the complex model of multilayer composite belt with the polyamide core, which can be used in simulation analyses. The following model was derived based on the experimental research, which consisted of tensile, compression and shearing tests. In order to achieve the most accurate model, proper simulations in ABAQUS were made and then the results were compared with empirical mechanical characteristics of a conveyor belt. The main goal of this research is to fully describe the perforation process of conveyor and transmission belts for vacuum belt conveyors. The following model will help to develop design briefs for machines used for mechanical perforation.

The development of composite materials is increasingly widespread, which require superior mechanical properties. From many studies, it is found that the mechanical properties of composite materials are influenced by various factors, including the reinforcement content, both in the form of fibers and particle powder. However, those studies have not investigated the effect of the hardener weight fraction on the mechanical properties of resin composite materials. Even though its function as a hardener is likely to affect its mechanical properties, it might obtain the optimum composition of the reinforcing content and hardener fraction to get the specific mechanical properties. This study examines the effect of hardener weight fraction combined with fiber powder content on mechanical properties of EPR-174 epoxy resin matrix composite and determines the optimum of Them. The research was conducted by testing a sample of composite matrix resin material reinforced with coconut fiber powder. The Powder content was made in 3 levels, i.e.: 6%, 8%, and 10%. While the hardener fraction of resin was made in 3 levels, i.e.: 0.4, 0.5, and 0.6. The test results showed that pure resin had the lowest impact strength of 1.37 kJ/m2. The specimen with a fiber powder content of 6% has the highest impact strength i.e.: 4.92 kJ/m2. The hardener fraction of 0.5 has the highest impact strength i.e.: 4.55 kJ/m2. The fiber powder content of 8% produced the highest shear strength i.e.: 1.00 MPa. Meanwhile, the hardener fraction of 0.6 has the highest shear strength i.e.: 2.03 MPa.
